on the CU web site --> 15 minutes of practice footage (http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=825361)
Nothing too exciting, except that it's great to see the Buffs on the field again!
Couple of random observations:
- QB number change caught me off guard. B-Jax was wearing 10 and Cody was wearing 7.
- Nick Nelson (#3) looked good in my opinion. Lot of juice on the ball. Looked very comfortable in both shotgun and under center.
-Alonzo Barrett made a VERY athletic play to almost get an INT (very much like the play that ended the UCLA/USC game last year, if you remember that one)
Still very early, but I was impressed with Nelson.
Anyone see practice yesterday in person? Thoughts?

Just watching that video, Cory Neighbors (the walkon RS running back) looks fast and springy. I had to go back to the roster to figure out who 36 on offense was.
Nelson does look like he has the old "live arm".
Is the season starting soon?

I think we should all take a few minutes to send an email to Plati or whoever at CU and thank them for posting that video.
No, it didn't show much-- but it showed enough to get the "when does football start again" juices flowing.

I was impressed with #33 former QB now TE Patrick Devveny (sp) he caught a lot of balls and looked quick as well!
As for the QB's Nelson did look good, had a lot of zip on the ball. Cody made some impressive throws down the field but looked like he had a major case of the happy feet, although that is to be expected.
All in all it got me real fired up to see the buffs back on the field, already counting the days!

I wholeheartedly agree. Send it to Plati, and he'll be sure to get it to the right folks (if it's not his group). IMO, Plati does a great job providing info to everyone who asks (unless your name is smitty :smile2: ).
UPDATE: I heard back from Plati and it's the BuffVision team who is putting this video (and the others we've been seeing this off-season) and that's headed up by Deric Swanson. His addy is his firstname.lastname@colorado.edu (I don't want him getting extra spam from his full addy being posted on the net).

Honestly, Nick Nelson looked a lot better than I thought he would. And Cody Hawkins also looks very good. I know you Buffs are hoping on Landry Jones, but I think you are set for 4 years with Cody at QB, a redshirt for Landry and he would start his Jr and Sr years. But I think Cody is your man. He looked pretty solid in that vid. Aside from his happy feet he's solid. He goes through his progressions very well.

Nelson looked pretty good IMO. I have heard the knock on him is a slow release. I didn't see it. He doesn't have an overly quick release, but I didn't see a problem with his delivery. Plenty quick for D I as far as I can tell.

The video is loading really slow, is this happening for anyone else? I'm using Firefox and it's all choppy in terms of both video and audio.

Not a firefox issue. It worked fine in mine. Probably just word getting out that there is a video, and servers bogging down.

I've watched it a few times, and have had no problems. In fact, the full screen mode has surprisingly good resolution. I'm using IE 6.0 - Media Player.

Good to see....even though the start of the season is still months away, its good to get a football fix.
One thing that I was hoping to see and didnt was more plays being made by the wide receivers. They were glariningly abscent last year and watching this video most of the completed passes were to either the FB's or TE's.

Anybody who doesn't think our three true freshmen wide receivers are going to play -- and play a LOT -- is kidding himself. (or herself)

You and I both saw the same video, no doubt about that.
Thankfully it's just the first day.

I think P. Williams is going to step up. Don't count out our current WR's. They are still out there working their butts off.

Was that BJax playing WR on one of CHawk's first passes? I wonder if we're going to see more of that this year.

Don't you love it how if you go to the CU webpage - www.cubuffs.com - they have a story about the first day of spring practices, and attached to that story is a picture of a guy, wearing #12, throwing a pass.
CU does not have a #12 on its roster this spring.

The caption below the pic identifies him as Cody Hawkins and also states that he has changed to #7 for this year...

I understand.
But they obviously took the time to shoot video from the first day of practice. Couldn't they take a picture, too?
Just a pet peeve of mine. They have operated their website like that for years. Posting pictures from a couple years ago to go along with a story from today.
Rant over.

From the video I saw I think Nelson is the guy. He's big, has a solid arm and what I liked most was that he was delivering the ball sooner than all the other QBs. Cody looked good too but he seemed to hang on to the ball that extra half step's worth of time longer than he should and with our Oline this year I think that will equate to a sack.

After seeing the second day video I still think that Nelson is the guy but Cody doesn't look to far behind. The good thing is that we will definitely be better at the qb position this year and with both lilhawk and Nelson doing well we will also have a very capable backup and not a huge drop off like we had most years under GB. We rarely seem to get through a season without a qb going down for injury so at least this season we will have a back up that doesn't send our game plan back to the high school level.
