View Full Version : My breakdown of the Buffs Season

After carefull consideration I've revised my predictions for the Buffs this year. Now, flame if you want I'm not writing this to be mean but just my predictions on each game. Now, the breakdown:

Colorado St.- WIN
Coming out of last season's close loss, I think CU is going to be hungry for this one and I think the game will stay within 10 points but a win none the less for the Buffs.
Arizona St.- LOSS
Don't really think the Buffs are going to be able to run with the Devils here, they're just simply outclassed talent wise and I think the outcome will be similar to last year.
Florida St.-LOSS
Not really expecting much out of the Buffs here, I think FSU is going to put a hurt on the Buffs.
Miami (OH)-WIN
Not much to say...big win here.
Oklahoma-LOSS
Too much talent, too much power. Stoops is gonna coast through this one.
Baylor-WIN
Baylor is going to choke bad this year.
Kansas St.-LOSS
That little bastard Freeman is going to have matured this year and I think Josh is going to pass all day long on the Buff's secondary. 7-10 point Loss here. Plus, I saw the boy play....freaking CANNON of an arm.
Kansas-WIN
Mangino eats too much and doesn't make the game
Texas Tech-LOSS
I think TT is going to be a Dark Horse to a lot of teams this year.
Missouri-LOSS
Again, Booger is learning the Tiger offense well and I think Missouri is going to exceed a lot of expectations this year, possible playing in the Big12 Championship.
Iowa St.-WIN
I give the clones another couple years before Chizik has any real effect in Ames.
Nebraska-LOSS
Come on...who you think I was gonna pick?

Season 5 and 7

All together, improvement for the Buffs under Hawk but I'd give it another 2 seasons before Hawk's guys start working into the program and things start to click.

Thoughts?

:yeahthat:

I'll be disappointed if the Buffs don't make a bowl game this year. I'm expecting a minimum of 6 wins. 7-5 would be a good season.

They weren't very far from being 6-6 last year. A few changes here and there (and a passing game) and they're a .500 team.

BuffGuy91

I think that is what you get with the Buffs this year. One can easily justify anywhere from 4 to 7 wins for this team. I think we will have a better idea of what kind of season to expect after the ASU game.

Funny you are mentioning all these blowouts by FSU and OU when CU pretty much was in every single game till the 4th qtr last year. This CU team is physically stronger and the offense is improved. I think the doubters are gonna be surprised. I don't see us winning 10 games, but I would be shocked if the buffs didn't win 6 or 7 games.

A very safe prediction there, Mooseknuckle. No real upsets either way.

I think you'll see the buffs pull at least one that no one expects. FSU is an upset special waiting to happen. Semenoles have huge QB questions, and I think that Hawk will turn to the back pages of the play book for special plays. That game is a huge recruiting weekend, and Hawk will pull out all the stops.

Nor do I think Hawk's team will be caught flat-footed against your cornholers' trickeration this year. In Boulder, that game should always scare you.

Oklahoma-LOSS
Too much talent, too much power. Stoops is gonna coast through this one.

I don't disagree with the Loss, but I doubt it will be a coast game. Last year in Norman the score going into the 4th Quarter was 10-0. I expect a close loss for the Buffs based on the fact CU will be better offensively than last year and stronger. Couple that with the fact it is a home game and OU is still a little questionable at QB, I think it will be again close going into the 4th quarter.

I see the Buffs finishing 6-6 with a win over Mizzou. The Tigers always play bad in Boulder and The Pickel is still the coach, so a late season swoon is for certain.

I think camel toe gave us a sober look at the season and this is a sober look at there's, but for both of us we are could do better the only mortal locks for NU to get pounded on this schedule are SC and UT.

As for us getting blown out I think we will get hammered by FSU with all the coaching improvements they made its going to be real tough on us to compete in that game, OU we have a better shot in becuase of their QB cluster-****. I really think the biggest shot for us to get blown out though is Texas Tech, they have to be pissed after last year, oh and I see KSU as highly winable, one man teams can be streaky and freeman has his disaster moments, and they only beat UT last year becuase they knocked Colt McCoy out.

I don't expect the Buffs to get blown out in too many (if any) games, but a 5-7 or 6-6 campaign wouldn't surprise me.

Nebraska peaked out last year and Sam Keller is no Taylor. If it took Taylor over 3 years to master the intricacies of the offense, why should that change for Keller? Also big question mark is your defense, the DL and CB. Here's my predictions:

Like I said...I was trying to be as unbias as possible and give a fair assesment to you guys.

FSU is an upset special waiting to happen. I hope I'm wrong too, I hate all Florida teams **Could have something to do with the 90's :). And no matter what bad energy CU and NU fans have between them (or the two teams for that matter) I still cheer you on in ANY game unless it effects NU's standings because no matter how you slice it...a non-conf Big 12 win is great for our division and since ya'll are big12...I root for ya.

I'm really looking forword to watching ya'll play The Suns so I can get a better feel for the team.

Harrell is the most talented QB Leach has had down there--in the Kingsbury, guy whose name i forget and Sonny Cumbie sequence.

that was a pretty big W for us when we beat Kingsbury at Folsom in 01 or 02, at the time. possibly Okruch's best job as DC. I wasn't that impressed with KK. i thought his delivery was really slow and his deep ball kind of sucked.

Barney had some really bad clock management at the end of the half to nearly squander a scoring op....but i think it was Purify bails us out with a great run after catch.

Harrell is the most talented QB they have had there, but he's still only entering his second year as a starter. We shall see, but I'm not convinced that Tech is going to be any better this year. They seem like they are unable to take the next step.

Kameltosis

Harrell is exactly the reason I think Tech is a dark horse. The guy is throwing almost 70% and avg.s 7 yards per catch. His ONLY drawback are his interceptions (11 in 06)...he brings those down and has a decent offensive line...lookout.

Anyways, back to topic...It looks like Sports Illustrated is thinking along the same lines...

North
1. Nebraska 9-3 (6-2)
2. Missouri 9-3 (5-3)
3. Kansas State 7-5 (4-4)
4. Colorado 5-7 (3-5)
5. Kansas 6-6 (2-6)
6. Iowa State 4-8 (1-7)

South
1. Texas 11-1 (7-1)

3. Oklahoma State 8-4 (5-3)
4. Texas Tech 8-4 (4-4)
5. Texas A&M 8-4 (4-4)
6. Baylor 3-9 (0-8)

So if SI has us going 5-7 (3-5 in the B12) that means they believe we will beat the lammies and either ASU or FSU ooc. This just goes to show that SI is full of ****. If we go 5-7 your scenario is likely how it would happen not with 2 ooc victories.

See this is my biggest pet peave with Nebraska fans right now. THey think they are untouchable by Colorado. Colorado was in the game of EVERY SINGLE GAME LAST YEAR and the reason that we lost so much (especially to the more talented teams like UGA, OU, and NU), was because we had a poor offense and our defense ran out of gas. Colorado was not as bad as their record last year and this year the BUffs will have an improved offense. Nerbaska lost basically their entire D-line. Nebraska is still too mediocre of a football program to be untouchable by the buffs who will bring it to them. Remember, three seasons ago it was the buffs who sent the huskers home for the holidays.

That is all, I get the sense that NU fans think the buffs are an easy W again, actually I hope you keep thinking that and I hope the fusker team thinks that. Because the buffs will bring it, and Hawk will be ready for the trickery thi time around. NU is not that great to say that it is a gaurantee W against the buffs.

I dont think it will be an "easy W", but it should be a W. I dont think any non-biased person would take CU in the game at this point. I think people are a little pumped up on the preseason kool aid right now.

Understandably, but if I took my black and gold glasses off and studied how the buffs were last year and then see the progress of the offense in fall camp this year compared to last on offense, then I would say the Buffs are set to win many more games this season.

I am still nervous that the coaching staff is unproven on game day. Even given the poor play last year they made some questionable calls. I want to chalk it up to the fact that they were unable to install as much of the offense as they wanted to but I want to see proof.

My outlook for this year is upbeat but still tentative. No predictions until I see that first game.

Couple that with the fact it is a home game and OU is still a little questionable at QB, I think it will be again close going into the 4th quarter.

lets the Sooners had a last year, that never really played QB in college, switched to WR and came back and played QB and did a pretty decent job winning the South and the Big XII last year. This year we have 3 QBs, two of which, Nichols and Bradford, that could compete and start for quite a few 1A schools this year. I am not to worried about the QB play of the Sooners.

oh and btw, there has only been one school that has wan a MNC with a freshman playing QB. If the Sooners win it all this year this wont change, it will be the same school twice.

Well, after four quarters, the Buffs were exactly as bad as their record shows last year. However, after three wuaters, the Buffs were way better than their record showed, for the exact reason you specified. Think how much more gas the D would have had if the O could have sustained even one drive per quarter that ended up even in field goals? Add another 12 points per game and give the D 15-20 more minutes of rest? That would have been a much, much different outcome to the season. My personal feelings on why Hawk wnet for it on 4th down so much when we were way within Crosby's FG range was not that we needed the 7 points over the 3, but because he wanted the first down so the D could get more rest before heading back out.

OU was decent last year (won the B12, right?) and we played there, and was trailing 10-0 in the begining of the 4th. With no O and tired D. What will it be this year at CU with alot more offense, a not-as-tired defense on the home field? I don't count this as an automatic loss like alot of you guys are. I think you could count FSU or ASU as a more automatic loss, simply because we know we have some playmakers as true freshmen, and their lack of experience will be more easily exploited early in the season, and will have tons of more playing time even in 3 additional weeks. And will be almost seasoned veterans by the time NU rolls into town.

I know that the Buffs are far from back, but I can see things improving and better players committing to CU (when was the lst time you heard of a 3 star committing to CU and thought 'Man, he is only a three star, shouldn't we wait to see if we can get a 4 or 5 star in his place?'). I love Cody's leadership, we really need that right now. I love BJ's athleticism, and his 'I will play where the team needs me' attitude. Right now I nomiate him for the 'Buff Heart' award for this year. He has always had his dream of being a QB, but has always gone where they wanted him to go for the sake of being a team player. I love commits that come in sold on Coach Hawk. And I am excited because I feel the team, regardless of this years record, is going in the right direction for the first time in a very long time.

I pretty much just expounded on what Unleash said, but him and I are both fired for the season at this point. Too bad Maddie, Mrs FIB and I are all down with a virus--I realy wanted to go today to the scrimmage.:sad1:

I agree, just not the NU game :smile2::wink2:

So you are conceeding the CSU game already? Well, maybe you aren't as dumb as your stories make you sound....:wink2:

Just found out that my father-in-law had been planning on me going with him to the game while mother-in-law stays with Mrs. FIB (who will NOT go to the Invesco games and deal with all the drunk CSU kids aymore) and Maddie. So I will have to find out where the Sacky tailgate is and get there early, since JP likes to get up early anyway.

i tend to agree. though, go read an aTm board and they are apoplectic they can't beat Tech. Leach is a real thorn in the side of the Aggies.

Well, Aggy should be scared of going to Lubbock this year. The last time they were there, it got ugly. Pretty funny though because they're more convinced they can beat UT than Tech right now.

Understandably, but if I took my black and gold glasses off and studied how the buffs were last year and then see the progress of the offense in fall camp this year compared to last on offense, then I would say the Buffs are set to win many more games this season.

I understand your point and where you are coming from but I'm not chalking it up as an easy W at all...I just think based on talent and last year so that's my prediction.

its cool, I dont discuss OU until someone else on the board discusses the team, unlike other so-called fans on here that think ****braska, stinkoln and that team are the center of the college football universe and every college football board needs to know that. that would be like me going to a whorn board and posting about OU, or coming hear and posting about OU football players, practice, scrimmages and such. it just isnt going to happen. CU and their fans will find out about OU the last Saturday in Sept. this year 1st hand.... :smile2:

And here's my breakdown of Nebraska's season.

Nevada: W
@ Wake Forest: L
USC: L
Ball St: W
Iowa St: W
@ Missouri: L
Oklahoma St: W
Texas A&M: W
@ Texas: L
@ Kansas: W
Kansas St: W
@ Colorado: L

I bet the Skers win at either MU or Wake. But then choke in one of those should win games.

I don't think your final tally is that far out of the realm of possibility.

I don't expect the Buffs to get blown out in too many (if any) games, but a 5-7 or 6-6 campaign wouldn't surprise me.

As someone else said; is the offense that much better or is the defense that much worse. We did lose 4 starters on that side of the ball. If the schedule wasn't as hard as it is I would be more optimistic about a bowl game and six plus wins.

optimism. you can give yourself permission to be optimistic, miami! give it a whirl for no other reason than the fact that great things happen to happy people. as an object example, today the happiness i paid forward to others in distributing one tub of my fabric stash amongst dancers was paid back to me from a completely unrelated source. i was gifted a very expensive and beautiful cut of white leather to make a totem belt with. i am in in dancer heaven! i have always wanted an outfit in white with silver, gold, and black accents, and here is the opportunity!

allbuffs karma works this way. the most amazing things happen as a result of our karma network, because good things happen to happy people. sometimes, we wait for these good things. last year we were really patient, and waited. i can't help but feel that there will be ample reason to be as proud as ever for our buffs this year.

go on now... GET HAPPY!

Excuse me, Waylon, but this is a CU board. If somebody is going to determine who is making too many references to another school, I think it will be CU fans, not the person who probably posts more "irrelevant refs" to another school than anybody else around here... We'll be sure to let UBT, and you, know when UBT is discussing the Sooners too much. Until then, vags still sandy from last year's Big XII title game may wish to consider douching... :smile2:

Green and Gold Eggs

You know, I like green eggs and ham,
I'm destined to, since I'm a Ram,
Such eggs, you see, are green and gold,
The colors of the brave and bold,

Although the ham, I have to say,
Were it on my breakfast tray,
I'd eat and yet (I must admit),
If gone, I wouldn't search for it,

But oh, those eggs of gold and green,
A Ram fan's favorite breakfast scene,
Some say no food is better than,
Two eggs fried in a Pam-sprayed pan,

Except in Boulder, where I live,
You can't find restaurants that give,
Eggs of gold and green; it's sad,
They think green eggs have all gone bad,

And so I close my doors and drapes,
Prepare some fancy, homemade crepes,
Grill a tasty buffalo steak,
Along with green and gold egg bake,

It's a Rocky Mountain Chowdown,
Every year 'fore I go downtown,
Just a little celebration,
That we live here in this nation,

In which we're free to get worked up,
About who wins the Governor's Cup,
Both sides will blame the refs again,
If our team--somehow--just can't win,

It seems my words on ham and eggs,
Gained some patriotic legs,
And so, I'll just sign off and say,
"Thanks for reading this today."
