:sad1: and :wtf:

The quality of the ISU and KSU classes is not good. We are going to finish with far better classes than both. Really nothing to be jealous about with those classes.

Baylor is in Texas. They should recruit decently, especially since they can sell the "up and coming" angle.

Overall, my random thoughts:

1. Texas and Oklahoma still rule the conference. Each have a good shot at finishing in the top five (Texas is currently #1).
2. Kansas has a established a DFW stronghold. They are not going away anytime soon.
3. Mizzou recruiting is a little preplexing. They really do not seem to be capitalizing on their recent success.
4. A little surprised to see NU stagnating a bit as well. Five commits, with one of those being a bit tenuous.
5. Texas A&M could end up with a very good class if they make a bowl, but if they are as bad as everyone expects (last in the South), I could see a lot of those guys jumping ship.

The class at the end of the season may be far different from what we have today, but "IF's" and "maybe's" arent very comforting right now. RIGHT NOW, our recruiting is a sad state of affair. I agree, a good or bad season may cause a lot of changes for most any team in the NCAA, but we are currently dead last in the conference and its frankly a pretty $hitty place to be.

Duff Man

So quantity is all that matters? Because that is essentially what you're saying when you get all bent out of shape being behind KSU and ISU right now (who actually are ranked behind us right now because a good majority of their recruits are currently unrated). I can absolutely guarantee you we will finish far ahead of them when it matters in February. I have no doubt about that.

The coaches would be blasted either way. Either they have too few recruits or they're taking guys that are not good enough.

We actually are off to a pretty good start. You could argue our first four recruits are the best first four recruits of any Hawk class to date. A few wins and the bigger names will give us the official visits. I'm not saying we're destined for a top 10 class, but I think we can land top 25 with some wins.

Colorado - 4 verbals (http://www.allbuffs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37046)
Recruit Breakdown by State
Texas - 101
Kansas - 11
Oklahoma - 8
Missouri - 6
Colorado - 5
Louisiana - 5
California - 4
Florida - 3
Arkansas - 2
Iowa - 2
Nebraska - 2
Illinois - 1

The lack of a Texas pipeline is killing us. We need some guys that have ties to Texas. Johnson is start, but we need someone else to help us break in. There's no way we make it back to the top of the Big12 without quality guys from Texas.

OUr class is going to suck until the kids out there start seeing some W's. 2009 is critical with a Nat'l venue of several games that will be televised nationally and in several of these kids living rooms. Hawk needs to show them and the rest of the CFB world that CU is on the up and up. BUT, that will only happen, and I know I am stating the obvious, when he puts some good W's on the board. At this stage of the game all we can do (at least that's how I am dealing with it) is to be patient and see what transpires at the season progresses. The wins and losses will speak volumes about Hawk and his leadership of this program, and the success of CU football in the near future.

win 8+ games and we're a team on the rise with a lot of young talent....and the 4* guys will take a look. we land a good class, #15-25.

win 6 games and we've got another #35-45 class and an uncertain future for the staff (which will also hurt recruiting).

Recruits see those high flying offenses and wins. They have always got the dt's at okie state.

3 losing seasons hasn't helped. CU needs to impress early and end strong. Will there be any quality recruits left?

I think it highlights the need for us to start faster in future years (2011's instate class could give us that chance), but I still think there will be a number of "solid" commits in play toward the end of this recruiting cycle.

Yep, seems the argument to sign early or wait has no right or wrong answer. It would be nice to have 20 signed right now but then if you lose 5-6 throughout the season it would be a downer.

Then, if you don't sign too many early, seems like many guys on your radar are already off the board and you get terms like" potential, sleepers" etc...

CU has enough national games to impress and get quality guys to check out CU.

We're definitely playing catch up. I'm really hoping that we're impressive against CSU and pull a couple commits off that weekend. Plus on national tv.

Then, we go to Toledo and will be on national tv again plus I would expect a couple kids in Ohio we're looking at will make it to that game. Chance we could pull a commit or 2 with that game even though it's away.

This is about where Hawk typically is for this time of year. The thing that seems different to me is it appears more schools are working to get the recruits in the fold earlier.

I feel this is a trend that has been developing over the last five years. With more schools getting on board the trend has gained momentum and soon schools that don't will be on the outside looking in.

The real question in my mind is what the attrition rate will be among these early recruits. So far pretty brisk. If this ever changes and these schools start retaining most of these early verbals Hawk may have to rethink the way he recruits

I really believe we've got some quality guys that have committed. Spond and Jones are 4* guys to lead the class so far. Lots of speed (with good size) among our other targets. My big concern is whether we'll be able to maintain quality while still bringing in a full class of 25 this year.

Looking at the rest of the North, it's not that impressive and we've got a good chance to be right there at the top.

I've watched Haywood. Talented, but speed is an issue. The qb (thompson) is the son of one of the land thieves former-greats. No brainer there, as to where he'd go.

One to watch for next year - David Glidden wr/db/kr, Mustang HS. Kid is a playmeker - has 18 td/s this year. 5/10-5/11 range, about 180, and reportedly 4.41 40 time. White gives the Horns an embarrassment of riches at WR in this class. Hard as it is to believe, Mack Brown may be putting together his best class ever. They have a good shot at two more 5* prospects to close out this class.

Buffnik, it seems like every year, oklahoma state has 27 or more commits, reminds me of some sec schools. What's the deal?

Remember Dexter Manley, the great Oklahoma State and NFL defensive end? He came out in the press to talk about how he is illiterate and was just passed through school all those years including college. Some of OSU's recruits aren't up to the Dexter Manley standard and don't make it into school. :smile2:

Also, there's probably some attrition so some of their number above 25 is usually JUCOs who sign early and don't count toward that year's number.

First off, I've finally gotten the commitment lists up-to-date. I'd fallen behind by a couple weeks.

Also, you may notice some changes:

- No longer tracking total commits from each state (it was a pain in the ass)
- All Colorado commits are now listed and linked as the 1st post in the thread
- Commitments have been divided into "Signees" and "Verbals" (Signees include Late Qualifiers from the 2009 class; Anyone in the Signees category may optionally be counted to the 2009 class)
- Ratings for every prospect on Rivals, Scout and ESPN are no longer being tracked (too much work and I never kept up with it to include updated ratings anyway)
- ESPN is the primary list I'm using since it's the most user-friendly, but their info may not be 100% correct or current

The rich get richer.

Texas landed DE Jackson Jeffcoat, TX, who is considered one of the nation's top 5 prospects this cycle.

Oklahoma stole LB Corey Nelson, TX, from Texas A&M. Nelson was one of their top recruits and had been a verbal commit since July. They may be also be losing DT Jackson Richards, TX, to LSU (visiting this weekend).

Speaking of LSU, they're also hosting Texas Tech's top commit, WR Kadron Boone, FL, this weekend. LSU needs another wideout and don't be surprised if they land Boone.

Duff Man

Jeffcoat is a big pickup for the Horns. They are also expected to land 5* LB Jordan Hicks out of Ohio later today as well. Could be Mack Brown's best class ever.

Nelson situation is not over, he is not technically committed to the Sooners right now. Looks good for them though. That would be a huge loss for A&M, they are really lacking in defensive talent.

Buffnik

BB,

Good call on Corey Nelson not being committed to the Sooners yet. OUInsider on Rivals and ESPN Rumors both had him as an Oklahoma commit, but...

the Texas A&M ESPN affiliate just reported the following:

Despite reports, four-star outside linebacker Corey Nelson (Dallas/Skyline) is still committed to Texas A&M and has not switched to Oklahoma, ESPN affiliate Web site TexAgs.com reports.

Nelson said via text, "I'm not committed to OU and I will remain an Aggie. It's my future. Report that please. Tell everyone I'm through with recruiting and I will remain at A&M. It's my future."

***********

I'll switch him back to TAMU on the first page (although I still think that it's not a done deal and it could be OU on NSD).

Duff Man

Definitely agree that it is not over until signing day. I actually think it will be OU in the end.
