Joke or was there really talk about a groundbreaking?
If so, and that is the target date, no one is going to believe them.

Yes, they really were talking about a spring ground breaking. March or April.
The school has issued an RFQ for testing services during construction. Construction is anticipated to go from March 2010 to March 2011! It'll be a three story, roughly 35,000 SF facility.

It's really true. It's out there on the interwebz for all to see. Groundbreaking will be in March and construction is expected to be completed by next April. It will have two new regulation hardwood courts for bball and vball and new locker rooms. Renovations to the Events Center is part of it too. From the link I provided:
The campus community will be engaged through the creation of much greater scheduling flexibility for campus and community events at CEC. And operationally, the CEC will be enhanced significantly through the development of the dedicated practice spaces, additional storage, and the ability to renovate the very limited event level spaces to better serve event operations. With these improvements, the Coors Events Center will finally live up to its name, hosting a variety of events throughout the year for the campus and Boulder communities.

Thank you, chip.
Great work by Mike Bohn! This is essential for our basketball and volleyball programs to reach the goals we have for them. There is no reason we can't consistently be Top 40 programs in all 3 (and run each as cash flow positive with MBB netting us millions every year).
You have to give Bzdelik a lot of credit, as well as the AD. Bzdelik said he would not take the job, or at least would quit, unless the AD stepped up with a practice facility. He had the vision. The AD agreed with his vision and made it happen. This not only buys Bzdelic into the program, but gives the AD a lot of credibility with players, staff, and fans.

I heard that project is delayed a bit. It's next on the list for indoor projects, but may not happen within the next 12 months. Practice Facility is priority #1 for the AD.

If you read the link I posted, they mention upgrades to Coors as part of the practice facility project. I hope that this includes the video upgrades.

I did read the link, but I thought they were talking about the parking/service entrances stuff that was part of the plan.
It would certainly be great if we got our ribbon and video boards. I just don't think it's happening soon. Maybe for next season, but it's definitely been pushed back. They were supposed to be installed prior to Big 12 play this season.

Great news. The CEC hasn't had a facelift since it opened in 1980.
