Seems to me like he might have the best chance of playing at WR with Simas and Simmons gone. Anyone know his game better? His numbers are really good and his highlights look promising.

Wow. Our WR situation is that bad? I hope this Mobely kid is that good. I bet Clemons will get double teamed all day long.

He's about the same size as Simas (+20 lbs) and he's faster. Why not? If he can fill that role and help us win, I'm all for it.

I guess the main thing that depresses me is the lack of depth at the position.

Why would that depress you? The lack of depth at WR has been a problem for five ****ing years. I am not depressed...I am over it. Jump on the bandwagon...

I'm still crazy enough to believe Hawkins can actually make this program into a winner.

Well...I pray that you are right. If nothing else, we can watch old footage of when we were a decent team...1994 was a great year.

There's always the past eh?
My biggest concern is we fire Hawkins, and we allow Mike Bohn to hire the next coach. I pray to god that this does not happen. Please sweet baby jeebuz do not let that man hire our next football coach.

It dont matter who steps up but we need it and more than one guy. I really hope Thornton can be that guy who can give us a huge boost. Of course, it wont matter if our oline gets their ass kicked consistently.

I thought the experience of getting our asses handed to us will make us a better team!

What's wrong with me? Why do I still hold out hope that Hawk will pull his head out from his ass and actually start coaching? I didn't laugh when Tyler said we could make a bowl game. I truly believe that is a good possibility. HELP!

I actually think Simmons gets the waiver. As I understand it, he just needs the NCAA to allow him to apply 9 summer credits instead of 6 as progress toward his major during the previous academic year. Given what he was going through in the fall and spring to do right by his baby, I'd have a lot of upsetness if the suits at the NCAA couldn't see their way to giving the guy a small break.

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt they'll give him the waiver. This is the NCAA were talking about here.

I have been hopint that Mobley moves from TE to DE. At 6' 4", with his reach and speed he could really get to the QB.

Maybe if he played for Florida or Texas. Then a movie would even be made about him.

I am sure Hawk is thinking just that. Why use an athlete at their recruited position? I think we should see if we can convert our multitude of kickers to O-line. We know they can't kick, so maybe they could really beef up the depth on the O-line.

i hope we don't. the kid has the tools to become a serious offensive threat.

A DE who can get to the QB is more valuable than a WR or TE. That's probably the most important thing to have on a team after a good QB (since both are so hard to find).

What about a 6'4" FB? You know that would be innovative, funky, blue collar and it would bring out the funk.

There are some poor moves (Kai from G to FB) there are some waiting to see moves (Evans from QB to TE, Mahnke from S to LB, Polk from RB to S) and there are some good ones (Solder from TE to LT, Hypolite from FB to DT, Pericak from TE/LB to DT). We have three (4 if Favors qualifies) TE's coming to Boulder this summer. I don't know if he has the ability to play WR or not, but I assume a few of those guys who come in will end up changing positions. Maybe he is the best TE and the others will be looking for new positions, but I remember hearing he played D in high school, and we could use some speed off the edge.

I would like to think Mobley gets lots of balls thrown his way. He made a good case for it at the spring game. And practice will be starting again before long, so we shall see.

Mobley was at the spring game? Was he lobbying for early PT? Did he sneak onto the field dressed as Kyle Cefalo? I'm confused....

I actually hope he is moved to DE as well. We really lack depth there and I think the use of a DE/LB hybrid on some downs has only netted so-so results. I would like to see us getting back to playing four DL most downs.

I just would love to finally see some size and speed at receiver. Something we have been lacking through the later years of the Barnett era and through the Hawk area. I don't really care if it comes from Mobley or whoever else. If a position move was made with Mobley then I agree that DE would be most valuable. We definitely have not been able to get at opposing quarterbacks.

Between Clemons, Celestine, Darden, Ussery (if he plays WR), and Thornton at TE, we actually have some size and speed - the trouble is that every one of them is an unknown quantity at this point so it's hard to get too excited about the group until we see them play.
McKnight may be the most steady of them all, but I didn't mention him because he is neither big nor fast.

For a guy who was not that highly recruited out of high school, and who redshirted his Freshman year when he could have provided some production, we're putting a lot of faith in Thornton to produce this year. I'm leery.

I'm confident. Because we've got 4* Ryan Deehan starting at TE and doing all the heavy lifting. We've also got a solid system guy in 6th year senior Luke Walters who we know will get his assignments correct and be steady for us. Thornton only has to come into games situationally when his position group is called for. He'll have time to grow into being a star. Two years, in fact, before 2012 when Deehan is gone and Thornton is a 4th year junior who owns the job.

i hear ya, but he really impressed me during spring practices and the spring game. alas, i'm tired of pumping up guys that haven't touched the field.
