ESPN named Longrus one of four "Standout Players" at its December ESPN iScore Annual Holiday Classic. He was the only 2012 prospect who was mentioned. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=5963673
Richard Longruss
(Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd)
2012, WF, 6-6, 200
Teammate Brandon Ashley gets most of the notoriety, and rightly so, but Longruss was O'Dowd's best player on this day. He is a basketball player in every sense of the word at both ends of the floor. His length is impressive and he's a terrific all-around defender. Offensively, he is an outstanding rebounder and he can play inside and out. The potential is there for the high-majors to get involved.

I asked Longrus what he is looking for in a school.
“The coaching is huge for me and definitely the education,” said Longrus. “The location is also important. Right now I’m looking at staying in the west. If I were to go to the Midwest or east, it would have to be for really good coaching and a great education.”

are we considered west?

are we considered west?
I don't know. We're in the Pac-12 and we're not in the central time zone. He didn't say "west coast", so I'm going to say that we qualify.

It's with 1 "s" everywhere except ESPN.

Top 3 of CU, Stanford and Wazzou. Probably a Stanford lean.

Still looking good for CU (with Stanford still hovering): http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1258949
(http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1258949)I love this quote from his coach:
"Richard is, as Len Elmore likes to say, a true 'stat sheet stuffer'," Bishop O'Dowd head coach Doug Vierra said. "In other words, he does an awful lot on the court each game. This includes guarding the opponent's best player, rebounding, getting assists, scoring, blocking shots and getting steals. He has been among the top three guys in each of those stat categories in all three of his previous years for us."

Adam (http://t.co/tgSH81Rk):
Oakland forward Richard Longrus has lined up three official visits. He will be in Boulder on Oct. 21: http://bit.ly/pmkUKu (http://t.co/tgSH81Rk)
He's also scheduled visits with Utah and Washington State. From Adam's article:
"I will in Colorado that next weekend on Oct. 21. I like that they are in the Pac-12 now. I also like their style of play, their coaches, the fact that they have a beautiful campus and that they offer good academics. Colorado has the all-around package."
Honestly, I know after all the 4*'s we've been chasing Longrus might not be a guy who wows everyone here, but he'd be a nice addition to the team. I know I name-dropped Luc Richard Mbah-a-Moute as a comparison in Jordan Bell (http://www.allbuffs.com/showthread.php/66307-13-CA-PF-Jordan-Bell)'s profile yesterday, but it might be more accurate to Longrus. Strong defender who can rebound, but is limited offensively. He's the type of guy who we could play in the frontcourt with Scott/Gordon and Roberson and allow us to switch on every pick and not lose any athleticism.

I've known Jr (his nickname back home) since he was a 7th grader. He came up through the MVP Flight club program outside of Oakland which, unlike most club programs, actually holds practices where the kids work on skills, etc. His dad is a high school ref in the Bay Area, and it has always shown in his mental game. I love the way he plays.

From YungCoach on Twitter: "Gave @buffscoop (http://twitter.com/#%21/buffscoop) the scoop last night, so it can go on here now. Look for the Buffa to pursue Artis hard. Longrus out of picture."
Not too surprising since Johnson committed.

I figured once we got Jenkins & Johnson that it was over for Longrus. I'm a little bummed because I really liked his game. Hoepfully he goes on to have a great career outside of the Pac-12!
EDIT - And I just looked over his "top choices" and they seem to be us, Wazzu, Stanford and Utah. So I guess that "outside of the Pac-12" thing was a bit of a dream.

And Longrus is no longer listed as a visitor on Rivals so it appears we're done with him.

Sounds like he committed tonight to Washington State, per Josh Gershon and YungCoach on the tweetersphere.

Washington State on the board again in 2012. PF Richard Longrus just committed to Wazzu, per a source. Good one for Cougars.
