View Full Version : Does Burks leaving free up another scholie?

It must, unless we we're already over-signed. My question is do we take one more this cycle? I'm hoping for two and we take a schollie away from Chen or Eckloff (but I'm an ass). Going to be tought to replace our top 4 producers in almost every measureable category. It can happen at places like Duke, KU, and UK but they sign 5-star players. While I'm excited about our incoming freshman, there's a reason they are not 5-stars.

My understanding of the situation is that Boyle has a scholarship he can use for the 2011 class if he chooses to add another player.

The math doesn't work, though, so I'm not sure how he frees it up.

I assume Chen will be taken off scholarship. I think he only got one in the first place beacuse they had an extra that wasin't going to be used.

I had insinuated as much from the articles written at the time of the transfer. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find them, so perhaps I'm mistaken. However, I can't imagine that Boyle would've signed a player (Adams) without potentially having a scholarship for him (should Burks have stayed). I'm going under the assumption that there's a scholarship to be handed out.

The question then becomes, spend it now or wait till you have a full year to work on it and have a big 2012 class?

If they can get a guy like Daniels, then use it. If not, then save it. IMHO anyway. If I counted right we have 4 schollies to give next season, and Boyle already has 2 verbals. This doesn't count an extra one from this year if in fact we do have it.

I agree that it has to be an impact guy for it to make sense to use that scholarship. I wouldn't mind seeing another JUCO (preferably a junior).

How about a 6'10" center who played JUCO ball in Wyoming? :-)

That's who I kind of have in mind if we don't land Daniels.

Would not be surprised to see an announcement on one or the other very soon. Boyle made the point that Alex's decision was final in the press conference. I feel certain that, as he stated, he did that at least in part to dissuade others from bugging Alex to stay. But, he also might have been motivated to let certain others who are undecided know that their was an opening for certain.

Excellent point. Lets see what Tad can do with limited time and lots of needs.

According to scout and rivals the remaining uncommitted players with CU offers are DeAndre Daniels, Elijah Carter, Anthony Norris, and Kevin Amayo. Daniels is a huge long shot, Carter is a PG and were definitely not talking another PG, Amayo and Norris are possibilities but we may not still be recruiting either one and there hasn’t been any recruiting info on Norris all year which is usually a good indication of academic problems. I assume some new players who CU is targeting will pop up in the next couple of days. We were able to sign Roberson and Mills late in the process last year and in a short time frame. If we can’t find and/or sign a player worthy of scholarship we should try to add a quality transfer ala Carlon Brown rather then let the scholly go to waste.

Saw in the paper this week where one of the Cowboy players is transferring to the boomers. It might be the same one you're talking about -- I'll see if I can dig up the 411.

Edit: the Tuesday edition of the Daily bark-n-fart reported that Wyoming forward Amath M'Baye is transferring to the crimson and cream. Apparently, he had left the cowboys team and committed to transferring when he visited Norman last weekend.

Are we talking about the same player?

The player that I was referring to is Rodrigo Silva ... a Center who plays for a Wyoming JC and looks pretty good. You can get the scoop on him right here on this website in the 2011 prospects list

I would like to see us get Silva with that scholarship...he would give us protection if Dufault, Mills or Harris-Tunks don't step up and produce

Silva would be my first choice too ... if we can't get Daniels. I believe that Mills will be red shirted next year regardless, in order to put a year between him and Tunks. In my opinion Mills is the best upside of the three that you mentioned. Boyle has to think about year to year continuity of the program and giving Mills another year to develop trades a sophomore year of production for a 5th year senior year down the road. Mills could be a heck of a player down the road. If Silva comes in, I believe that he has three years of eligibility, so that would mandate a red shirt year for either him or Mills anyway because it does not make sense in my opinion to have three centers in the same class. Then, it would be slam dunk to red shirt Mills. Let's hope that we are lucky enough to get Daniels or Silva.

I agree talent wise...Daniels would be first choice...but I don't believe he is coming...with Texas losing at least 2 and maybe all 3 of their guys do they get back in play for him? Silva is a definate number two and might actually fit the greater need.

Hoops Fan, I also agree with redshirting Mills. Would like to see him develop and take over for Tunks when he moves on from Boulder. Will be nice to have some serious front court height for a change.
