Nick Kasa came to CU out of Legacy Highschool in Broomfield and was one of if not the most heralded instate prospect of the 2009 class. Eric Kiesau and Romeo Bandison managed to beat out and then hold off a rouges gallery of D1 schools for Nicks signature in 2009 beating out the likes of: Florida, Miami, and Oregon where Kasa took official visits. Scouts were drooling over nick when he came in as can be seen in his early AllBuffs recruiting profile: http://www.allbuffs.com/showthread.p...O-DE-Nick-Kasa Nick's road at CU though was a little more challenging than had originally been expected, although he did come in and play right away Urban Meyer's take that he was better suited on the OL may have rang true for Nick. It was not until the move to TE during his JR season that Nick began to blossom and woke up NFL scouts. Seen as too tall and with poor leverage for a DE the 6'7" 270 pounder was a natural at tight-end; because of his late switch and raw athletic ability Nick represents a chance for an NFL team to gamble a mid round pick on some with the physical tools of a first day pick.

University of Colorado Career:

Nick's freshman season was a rough one at first beset with a knew injury and then losing the back half of the season to a viral infection Kasa could have qualified for a medical-redshirt based purely on time played, but as those were mid-season games instead of the first 4 games he was unable to do and played just 47 snaps in his freshman campaign. His sophomore season went more like we had hoped his freshman year would, playing significantly and starting 1 game Nick was the recipient of the Dan Stavely Award for being the most improved defensive lineman during spring drills as selected by the coaches. After starting the season on the defensive side of the ball Nick made the switch to TE in the last third of the season seeing action in the final game of the year an upset win at Utah where Nick caught 1 ball for 8 yards.

Senior year was much kinder to Nick after he was able to get a full spring and fall of practice at TE he came in and started all 12 games at TE even at one point in the season being listed on the Mackey award list and contributing mightily to our loan with of the season with his 70 yard TD reception at WSU. He started all 12 games (12 of the 13 games in his career as a tight end), yet he was one of only 26 on the official mid-season watch list for the John Mackey Award (he did not advance to the semifinalist stage). For the season Kasa caught 25 passes for 391 yards for a team-best 15.6 per, with three touchdown receptions. At the close of the season Nick was invited to play in both the East-West Shrine and Senior Bowl games in the postseason.

2013 NFL Draft notes:
Strengths:
Great size (6-foot-6, 269 pounds) and a good athlete (4.71 40-yard dash). Kasa should excel at the NFL level at blocking from the tight end position. He has great size (he'll be nearly as big as most 4-3 defensive ends) and you can tell he loves the physical part of blocking, but he'll need to continue to learn how to correctly use his hands and position his body. Kasa is a guy who can threaten the deep middle part of the field because he gets up to speed quickly and he has good long speed. His size could make him an ideal red-zone target. Kasa should be a big contributor immediately on special teams.
Weaknesses:
Although he has good hands he has a ways to go as a receiver especially in the areas of: route running, and recognition. Owing to this it is likely Kasa won't contribute on offense much as a rookie.

David Bakhtiari enters the 2013 draft as the best prospect out of the University of Colorado, and the one who will carry the banner for us. David is the third CU O-lineman in three years who will be picked in the first 5 rounds of the draft (No I don't know why we cant block anything). He projects as an early to mid-round pick with very strong measurables of: 6'4" Height, 300lbs, and 34inch long arms. After playing a number of positions on the O-line at CU David projects as a guard at the next level, some people have compared him to a Will Rackley type although he is considerable faster ticking off a 5.09 second forty yards dash to Will Rackley's 5.4.

University of Colorado Career:
Here is a quick look back at David's recruiting profile and early notes:

David did not start at Serra High until his senior year and because of that he was fairly lightly regarded by all of the recruiting services which graded him out as a 2 star prospect despite receiving strong interest from CU, Washington, and Utah. Once at CU David matured quickly tipping the scales at 285 by the first round of fall practices in 2010, at that time he was taking first team reps ahead of Bryce Givens who would later leave the team. With Nate Solder firmly entrenched on the Left side of the line David slotted into right tackle before the season and started 11 of 12 games earning honorable mention All-Big 12 awards from both the AP and collegefootballnews.com. Headed into the 2011 season and with Nate leaving for hte NFL David was shifted over to the blind side where he again started 11 games for the Buffs. for the 2011 season he earned second-team All-Pac 12 honors from the league coaches, Phil Steele’s College Football and collegesportsmadness.com, was a second-team sophomore All-American by collegefootballnews.com and a first-team All-Colorado performer as selected by the state’s chapter of the National Football Foundation. David's final year at CU was no doubt a frustrating one with the Buffaloes notching one of their worst records in history, despite that Bakhtiari was a bright spot for us: starting 11 games, again named second team All-Pac 12, and grading out as our best lineman for the year.

2013 NFL Draft notes:
Strengths:
David gets consistent low posture and strong early contact through his hands is there. He has a strong grip and good control when obtained. He is frequently able to limit inside moves and very aware of slowed footwork when opponent is setting up a second move. David flashes the nasty attitude sought after at this level and finishes off plays, takes opponents down that have lost their balance. Can really get after it, an attacker rather than passive blocker.
Weaknesses:
Not an ideal build for an offensive lineman, thin in the arms. He can be beaten around the edge without slowing the rusher down and can lose face up against stiff contact due to not having the ability to stop backwards momentum; because of this David projects as a guard in the NFL as opposed to the tackle he played in college.

Two years ago when our beloved Colorado Buffaloes left the horrible Big XII Conference for the new beautiful Pac-12 conference I was excited. We were headed to a land of like-minded schools. No longer would we be dealing with purely agricultural schools who offered majors in field turf management as we were going to the conference of champions. We were headed to Cali, to Phoenix, to Seattle and to gorgeous places that people actually WANTED to go on road trips to (see: not Lincoln, NE). We were leaving Dan Beebe behind and getting a visionary in Larry Scott.

It was perfect.

And on a personal level, I was excited because I thought I was headed to a land of decent officiating. No longer would the Clete Blakeman’s of the world screw us over as we played Nebraska. No longer would we have to deal with the constant moving screens from white seven footers wearing Kansas jerseys that would never be whistled. I had heard complaints about how Pac-12 officials were bad, but figured that it was just complaints from people who always complain about the refs their team has to deal with. I mean the refs couldn’t be worse than Blakeman, could they?

They could. And they are. And that’s terrifying.

And that is the worst part of the news that came out yesterday that Ed Rush put a bounty on Sean Miller during the Pac-12 tournament. Joking or not, it’s the worst possible thing that could have come out about Pac-12 officials. If you asked people nationwide to comment on Pac-12 basketball, I’m willing to bet that one of the top three most common responses would be something about bad officiating. It’s an absolute joke, and it has to be fixed. The Rush news is bad. No one can argue that. But I honestly believe that if this came out about the Big East or the Big Ten – conferences that don’t seem to have national problems with officiating – then it might be something that you could ignore. But to combine it with the image issues that the Pac-12 has already is death. Quite simply, the Pac-12 doesn’t have a choice in this matter.

At lunch today I caught Jeff Goodman being interviewed on Sportscenter and he made the comment – repeatedly – that Pac-12 officials are scared of Rush. He said they felt “bullied” by him and they were all terrified for their jobs. Now this could be revisionist history or an incident where people are piling on, but with Rush’s background it makes it a lot easier to believe. He was the head of NBA officiating for one of the worst eras in NBA history. He was in charge during both the Tim Donaghy gambling scandal and the infamous 2003 Kings-Lakers playoff game. Mark Cuban famously called him out. He was notoriously hard to deal with, and the NBA and Rush finally decided to go separate ways.

When the Pac-12 brought Rush in, he decided to implement more of an NBA style of officiating in the conference. I will give him credit for one thing, and that’s the lack of ticky tack fouls that plagued Pac-12 games in the past. That toughness showed in the tournament as the Pac-12 went 3-2 in the opening round and had two Sweet 16 teams – a much better showing than last year’s tournament in which the Buffs were the leaders of the conference by making the round of 32. But he also brought the bad aspects of NBA officiating to the college level. Another point that Goodman made in his interview was that Rush didn’t like the coaches talking to the refs – something that is paramount on the college level. College refs don’t want to be listening to a 19 year old whining to them, so they deal with the coaches more. This makes sense to pretty much everyone that bothers to think about things – which sadly rules out Rush from understanding it. The fact that Miller is so vocal apparently did not endear him to Rush, so Rush decided to make an example. And now the Pac-12 is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

All this said, I still believe in Larry Scott. I ultimately believe that he’s going to realize that this is a huge problem and he’s going to have to address it sooner rather than later. The drumbeats are getting louder. As Andy Glockner said, what’s going to happen the first time Arizona gets a questionable call that goes against them? What about a questionable call that goes in their favor? Everyone is going to let that doubt creep in the back of their mind, chants of “Can-cun” are going to fill the arena, and that’s the last thing that anyone wants. Scott has to get rid of Rush.

At this point, it’s becoming obvious that Scott is a visionary. He’s phenomenal at the big picture, but as Adam has put it, he gets distracted by the shiny things. Unfortunately, this is causing some of the day to day details to fall through the cracks, and the little problems are starting to add up. No matter how you view it, the Pac-12 blew it with DirecTV. I’m fairly confident that they’ll get a deal done this summer, but this first year is unforgivable. Both sides need to realize that they have a lot to do to make it up to their fans. This situation with Rush is the second thing that Scott has blown. It honestly appears that he thought there would be a slight brouhaha and then it would blow over. That’s a gross miscalculation, and one that Scott is going to have to pay for. Honestly, if I were Larry, I’d be looking for a strong second-in-command to hire. Someone who has the gravitas to stand up to Larry and tell him he’s being naďve about the situation. Having Scott as commissioner is like having a truly amazing big man. You’re going to win a lot of games with him, and you’re going to pull off some unbelievable moments, but you’re also going to blow a few of them unless you have a solid PG who can keep the train running smoothly. The Pac-12 doesn’t have that point guard right now, and that’s something they need to look in to.

Hopefully, that second in command makes it so that the only Rush that will be appearing at Pac-12 events next year will be the badass hard rocking trio from Canada.

On Decmeber 10th 2012 Mike MacIntyre was announced as the 25th head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes Football Program replacing Jon Embree who had been let got after a dismal 1-11 season which feature not a single win at home and only 4 total wins over his career with CU. Coach MacIntyre was born in Miami Florida to former Vandy head coach George MacIntyre and played in and started his coaching career in the SEC. Over the course of Mike MacIntyre's career he's coached in the: SEC, ACC, WAC and the NFL. Prior to Joining San Jose State in 2010 Coach MacIntyre was named the American Football Coaches Association recognized MacIntyre as FBS Assistant Coach of the Year as the defensive coordinator at Duke. In his 3 seasons at SJSU Mike MacIntyre took the Spartans from a school on the verge of dropping football and finishing 1-12 to a record of 10-2 and a #24 ranking in both polls.

Family life:
Although he started out as a player under his father at Vanderbilt once George was terminated Mike transferred to to Georgia Tech where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Georgia Tech and his master's in Education with an emphasis on Sports Management from Georgia in 1991. Coach MacIntyre is married to Trisha MacIntyre and they have three children: Jennifer, Jay Michael, and Jonston.

Early Coaching Career:
Mike MacIntyre started his coaching career after graduating from Georgia Tech when he enrolled in cross state rival Georgia as a graduate student and joined the football team as a graduate assistant. From there MacIntyre became a defensive coordinator: at Davidson College (then in Division III) in 1992, the University of Tennessee at Martin from 1993 to 1996, and Temple University from 1997 to 1998. From Temple Coach MacIntyre went back to the SEC as a widerecievers coach and later with as a Secondary coach with Ole Miss. MacIntyre actively helped recruit Patrick Willis to Ole Miss; Willis would become an All-Pro linebacker in the NFL. Ole Miss won the Independence Bowl in 1999 and 2002 and was the runner-up of the 2000 Music City Bowl. In 2001, Ole Miss ranked fifth nationally in defensive for allowing 161.3 yards per game.

Professional Coaching Career:
In 2003 Mike MacIntyre left the college ranks for a job with Bill Parcells Dallas Cowboys team where he stayed until 2006 when he took a 1 year job with the NY jets before returning to the college ranks as the defensive coordinator with the Duke Blue Devils, quickly being named FBS Assistant Coach of the Year before leaving for the SJSU re-build job.

Head Coach San Jose State:
Coach MacIntyre joined the Spartans in December of 2009 replacing the retired Dick Tomey. The first year at SJSU proved to be a difficult one with the Spartans limited by APR penalties and a history of losing MacIntyre and the Spartans stumbled to a 1-12 record. After drastic changes at SJSU and an aggressive recruiting cycle things turned around the next season winning 5 games and breaking two very long losing streaks. In his final year at SJSU all coach Mac did was win 10 games for the first time in 25 years, put 16 guys on the all conference team, close the best class recruiting in the WAC and finish ranked 24th in both polls.
Familiar words buzz through the microphone-loaded room

“Obviously I’m disappointed with our performance on Saturday,” said CU Head Coach
Jon Embree. “But I was pleased with how our younger kids played.”

A few days removed from his team’s tumble against Colorado State, Embree speaks to a
group of reporters and fans with a doubtless tone at his weekly luncheon. And though he
seems more ragged and tired than the day he took this job, like a doomed ship’s captain
who has grown wise after years of sailing menacing tides, his attitude beats constant.

Embree remains optimistic, almost to a stubborn point, about building his Alma Mater
up to a competitive stature. He said he still believes this will be a bowl-eligible team by
season’s end.

“Trust me it’s personal with me about this job, about getting it right,” Embree said when
asked what he could say to his fans upon the 0-1 start. “I’m not going to change my
standard, I’m not going to change my expectations. We should expect to go to a bowl
game every year.”

If that prediction is to culminate into reality, then a win against FCS opponent
Sacramento State would seem a necessary step. The Hornets lost by 30 last week to
New Mexico State and might find it a little tougher to breathe in the fourth quarter while
playing 5,400 feet above sea.

Embree’s Buffs have worked all week to fine-tune the conspicuous weaknesses that
marred a beat-up from little brother.

To begin, the offensive line needs to find motivation from a performance in which it’s
running backs averaged two yards per carry. Especially since the athleticism on the
offense’s edge continues to be a loud weakness, the offensive line must find ways to push
opposing lines backwards.

“If you can’t run the ball, it’s going to be hard to win,” admitted Embree. “I think we’ve
run the ball effectively two times now in 14 games. That’s not good enough.

On the opposite end, the stoic but thin front-seven will be key to working in a youthful
secondary, helping to pressure Hornets quarterback Garrett Safron, who is apt to
scrambling. The defense’s faculty to pressure Safron will prove vital to getting the Buffs
a mark in the win column.

Embree notes that his long history with CU, both as player and coach, has challenged his
football faith with riddling results. An 18-28 record while excelling at tight end under
Bill McCartney has carried over to a 3-11 record as the program’s main man. Persistent
in his philosophy and calm in his restless want for a winning team, the head coach continues
to believe in a hardworking group.

“If you start changing your goals and your standards you’re not going to be successful
in anything you do,” said Embree. “I learned that early as a player going through some
of the things I went through here. It was difficult times. To me it’s a no-brainer, you just
keep grinding.”

A young crop of 13 freshmen, who are a major part of the project for success, got their
first game action in Denver. How much improvement comes from players like Kenneth
Crawley, Gerald Thomas, and Marques Mosley will be telling for the substance of the
Buffs 2012 story.

Embree still has a lot of fight left in him. His army of black-shirted buffaloes (which,
keep in mind, is one of the youngest teams in all of the FBS) may be impressionable
enough to mirror his will.

“It’s OK to be disappointed,” Embree told his players after the Rocky Mountain
Showdown. “But don’t be discouraged. Discouragement leads to failure.”

Toney Clemons was the 3rd of 4 seventh round draft picks by the Pittsburgh Steelers and looks to become the next in a long line of late draft day stars in the Pittsburgh receiving core. Clemons is widely regarded as a solid rout-runner with pronto-typical size and speed for an NFL DB. A mid Career transfer from Michigan to CU and the associated time off as well as constant change within the CU Coaching staff limited his early numbers at CU. The back half of his Sr. season was a complete revaluation - previously prone to lapses in concentration and the associated drops, Toney eliminated that and turned into Tyler Hansen's #1 target as CU finally broker their 4 year road losing streak at Utah.

Clemons is polished as a runner, able to close gaps and play against physical corners. Strong enough to break tackles after the catch he'll be effective opening up the middle of the field for the Steelers.

Big 12 awards:
http://www.allbuffs.com/content.php/...y-Big-12-Media

Toney's Pro-day numbers:

 Top Performer

After catching a touchdown in four of his last five games, Toney Clemons continued his progress with a huge day. Clemons registered a 36-inch vertical and 11 reps of 225 lbs. The two biggest questions that scouts had about Clemons though, were his speed and his hands. He was never considered a "burner" but Clemons blew away the host of NFL teams with a 4.36 forty yard dash (laser timed). In passing drills, Toney got in and out of his routes with power and fluidity. He did have two drops but one of those balls was put low and slightly shallow. He more than made up for it with a catch on a deep fade where he had to make up ground on the ball.

Great article about Tyler. Sounds like he has a legitimate shot. My favourite part of the article is when Jay Gruden said:

“We watched (Hansen) in the East-West Shrine game and I thought he was – by far – the best quarterback in that game,” said Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden. “He makes quick decisions, he’s accurate, and you can see that he’s tough because he took a beating out there. He has the ability in the pocket to make people miss and he has a good, strong arm – a lot stronger than you think. He can really throw it. He’s done some really good things.”
A fan favorite of the student section, Mills is a seven footer who just can't seem to put the bulk on to pound down low. The first team All-Wisconsin player from high school had a hard time finding his way in to the Buffs rotation. There was speculation that he might redshirt this past season, but that went out the window in the first game of the season when he got four minutes of playing time against Ft. Lewis.
2012-13: There are rumors that Mills might be considering transferring to another program. With two highly praised front court recruits in Josh Scott and Wesley Gordon coming in, it's hard to envision Mills getting much more playing time than he did this season. That said, if he can find a way to put some weight on this off-season, the Buffs could certainly use a presence down low that Mills would be able to provide.

Then the Super Nin-Chen-do came out and won us all over. Like a pit bull on crack, Chen is relentless out there. He's not the most talented player, but he knows his role and can single handedly change the momentum of a game if the Buffs are off a bit. He was forced to guard every position from the point guard to power forward this season, and never complained -- even when he was going up against guys who were 6" taller and 50 lbs. heavier than he is. Not only that, but Chen has agreed to be on a year-to-year scholarship to give the team flexibility in recruiting. Plain and simple, if you're not a Chen fan, there's just no hope for you.
2012-13: Now that you've seen my love letter for him, let's also ground ourselves in reality a bit. He's incredibly limited offensively and while he tries a lot, he's not the most talented guy. As Boyle gets more and more talent coming in, Chen's numbers are going to be limited. But he's the kind of guy that every successful team needs -- the annoying guy who goes 100% in every practice, diving for every loose ball and causing everyone on the team to work harder. I think he'll have a similar season to last year, with slightly less minutes. He'll be in the rotation and he'll get minutes. And on senior night, he'll get the standing ovation that he deserves.

Especially in basketball, statistics don't lie. It's why three of the four teams in KenPom's top 4 are in the Final Four. That said? Ski's stats lie. Ski has the third worst offensive efficiency numbers on the team. Now, is he the most efficient player out there? No. But how much of that is because he was forced to be on the floor at the same time as Sabatino Chen, Jeremy Adams, Shane Harris-Tunks and either Nate Tomlinson, Spencer Dinwiddie or Carlon Brown. Honestly, I think if you surround him with players that can help him create a little more and you're going to see his numbers shoot up.
2012-13: So what happens next year? Honestly, I expected to see Ski continue his role off of the bench to provide scoring. However, in his end of the season press conference, Tad Boyle gave all indications that Ski would be starting. Starting or coming off of the bench, it's a safe bet that Ski will be in the top four on the team in scoring and will push the tempo regularly. I really think next year we'll see his efficiency and shooting percentage numbers all rise a bit. His usage rate was the highest on the team, which is another number that we should expect to see drop a bit. A Monte Ellis-type player who could be capable of putting 25+ on any given night, and who will continue to remind the PAC-12 teams that they all made a mistake by not recruiting him.

Adams lit it up in both high school and JUCO levels and while no one was expecting 20 ppg, I think everyone expected a bit more from him. Because of his offensive struggles (his offensive rating was the worst on the team) and a concusion, he had a hard time finding minutes at first. When he did play, he showed some impressive defensive ability. Unfortunately, his shot just wasn't falling. Finally, late in the season, news broke that Adams was also dealing with the recent discovery that he has diabetes. That, combined with the concussion explain some of the struggles that Adams had this season.
2012-13: So if Adams posted such horrible numbers this season (and his ORtg, shooting percentages and TORate are REALLY hard to swallow), why have I and others mentioned him as a potential starter for next season? In my case it might just be pure blind optimism. From all accounts Adams was tearing it up in practice all year, but just struggled in games. If he can get over that hurdle, we should be able to see the practice player -- and we started to see brief glimpses in the PAC-12 and NCAA Tournaments. Also, with an entire off-season to adjust to dealing with diabetes, he should feel stronger and more confident as well. If that happens, he could be a strong defender on the wing who can hit the open jumper -- something this team needs desperately. Adams could be a huge part of next season's team, and could ultimately decide if we're a decent team or a good one.

It seemed like almost all of us expected Shane to come out strong this season after sitting last year out with a torn ACL. The only legitimate big man on the roster, most of us were hoping for solid defense down low and an occasional low post move. Unfortunately, for most of the season, Harris-Tunks lived up to the nickname he was given on the board of Simba. He was tentative and playing like a gentle lion cub out there. However, late in the season when he started donning his mask, he started putting it all together and giving us a glimmer of hope for next season. Shane started standing tall down low and holding his own with some of the low post presences in the conference. He still has a lot of work to do, but he gave signs that Simba may become an African Badass.
2012-13: This is the year. Call me crazy, but I think this year Shane puts it all together and becomes a solid rotation player. First off, he's going to have some help. The Buffs lose Austin Dufault down low, but gain Josh Scott and Wesley Gordon. Having those two around in practice will only help Harris-Tunks. Secondly, you can see he's finally starting to get confidence back in his knee. He's never going to be a huge scorer or an athletic freak of nature, but it's incredibly realistic for him to provide 15-20 minutes a night of good low post defense and occasionally bust out the hook shot that he started to display at the end of the 2011-12 season.
