    STEAMBOAT SPRINGS -- Colorado`s Katie Hartman nabbed a third-place finish in the giant slalom Wednesday, but the Buff men were shut out of the top 10, leaving Colorado in sixth place after the first day of the NCAA Championships.

    Two-time defending champion Denver led the team race with 239 points, followed by Utah (196.5), Vermont (178.5), New Mexico (173), Dartmouth (148) and Colorado (143).

    It`s not the first time the Buffs have been in this position. The last time the championships were held in Steamboat -- in 2006 -- CU also finished the first day in sixth place. The Buffs then charged back to win the title.
