Other programs are involved but it appears two Pac-12 teams will battle it out for five-star defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy who said Thursday at The Opening that Cal and USC are two favorites.

The Golden Bears might even have a little edge because McCarthy has developed a strong relationship with defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi and that could help in his decision.

McCarthy and Aziz ****tu are starting to bond too. Do not be surprised if they both end up at Cal. Lupoi is a freaking monster on the recruiting trail.

You'd think with the DL class that Cal brought in last year that they'd be struggling a bit more with their DL class this year. Plus, they haven't really won anything under Tedford and have been under-performing their talent level for years. That staff can recruit, though.

I'm telling you guys, we need to hire Lupoi the second Tedford gets canned. Offer that guy a million a year.

4 DL last year that were 4-stars and a 3-star..... Wow.

Where do these kids think they will play at Cal?

Who by the way has only two commits so far.

They're about to pick up commitments from two really good WRs (Treggs and Walker). As Bob said above, the table is set for Cal to have a really good class. They're in good shape with the DL and are still the odds-on favorite to land Shaq Thompson.

Weird that we haven't offered Shaq. He's one of the top players in the country, is from our primary recruting state, and we may have a small "in" with his brother playing for the Broncos. Unlikely that we would get him but it couldn't hurt to try.

Screw Oregon and USC! I just do not get why anyone with any values would give either any consideration.

That, and Oregon is a lot of fun to watch. Pretty cool that even against #4 Stanford, they went for 2 on their first TD. We used to have that kind of speed...

Go to USC and your family can stay in a really nice house and be close to you, go to Oregon and those friendly faculty members just happen to lend you their rental cars that they use to carry around their party supplies. Just a bunch of really friendly folks at both places.

If only the NCAA would accept that explanation lol!

If only we could figure this cheating thing out. Hell, we knock $2 off our walk-on's lunch bills and lose two scholarships. OU has two guys getting paid by a car dealer while doing no work and they lose two scholarships.

It is called having a big booster who can get you out of trouble, being in the SEC or having an alumni high up in the NCAA.
