Well, that sucked.

The first game was the one that I was most nervous about, as the Buffs drew one of the top two teams in the tournament in Wichita State. The Shockers are a team that should be playing late in March, and proved why against the Buffs. Between Smith's outside shooting and Stutz's pounding us down low, the Shockers just out-executed us. That said, I was thrilled with the Buffs effort in the game. You could argue that a walk-on was their second best player in that game (Chen was HUGE off of the bench for the Buffs), and they still kept it close throughout. It had to be an encouraging sign for Buff fans.

Then we had the Maryland game. There's no other way to look at it than to say that this game is going to be a "bad loss" at the end of the season. Maryland is down this year, and only had 7 scholarship athletes for the game. CU jumped out to the early lead and led by double digits in the second half before completely falling apart. To say that CU lacked effort on the glass would be an understatement and you could hear the frustration in Boyle's voice after the game when they asked him about free throw shooting. Honestly, this game bothers me more than the San Francisco and Harvard games did last year. There is zero excuse for us to have lost it.

Luckily, we managed to salvage a 7th place finish and at least get one win thanks to Western Michigan, but no thanks to the refs who just killed Andre Roberson. So I guess we are now four games into the season and still don't know what we have. Are we the team that hung with a GOOD Wichita State team in the first game and kicked the hell out of Maryland for 25 minutes? Or are we the team that collapsed against the Terrapins and struggled to put away a Western Michigan team that isn't exactly dominant?

Only one game this week, but it's an important one. Time to see if the Buffs can win in hostile territory as they head into Clune Arena to take on Air Force. Air Force is coming in to the game 3-0, but they haven't exactly played murderers row as they've beaten Army, VMI and Western State. The key for the Buffs will be attacking the boards, which isn't exactly either team's strength. Roberson should have a huge game against Air Force as the Zoomies lack the size to really pound the glass (you don't see a lot of 7 foot fighter pilots after all), and I expect Austin and SHT to get on track as well. The key will be for the Buffs to stay disciplined on D, and if they can do it they could escape with a victory.

so our defense sucks? Loooks like we are ognna lose to AFA.

Right now? Yes.

As for losing to AFA, it'll be interesting. We're easily the best team they've faced so far, and we do match up well with them. If we play our game, we should be fine. After the PR disaster though, I have no idea what to expect. Is this like last season in which we need some time to gel or are we legitimately this bad?

PR disaster? How was it a disaster? I mean, sucks losing to Maryland, but a lot of us figured htey would go 1-2, with Tzi figuring 0fer.

Personally, I consider the Maryland game a disaster. Honestly, that was horrid and there is zero excuse for that happening. Up double digits with only 15 minutes left and that collapse? Ugh.

1-2 was what I expected. I just figured we'd be the 6th place team after losing to Iona instead of 7th after squeaking by Western Michigan.

When I had originally said CU would go 1-2 I thought CU would lose to WSU, beat Maryland, then lose to Iona. Not lose to Maryland and beat WMU. By beating Maryland, you'd get a boost to RPI because Maryland plays in such a strong conference and will have a very strong SOS. WMU won't, so that win might not do anything for your RPI, and the loss to Maryland was just a lost opportunity.

Wichita State and CU had pretty bad showings in PR this weekend. Sucks big time for both of our programs.

Thank god it is the beginning of the season. Lots of things to be worked on. Wichita has less of an excuse than CU with all of its upperclassmen. Regardless, four games into the season.

Are we sure this game is on Root? My impression is that it was on the channel that no one gets "The Mountain."

So very right you are.

The strong point coming into this season was the veteran play of our guards. We had anything but veteran play from a couple of our guards down in PR. Very sad.

@ Goose too... Fair nuff.

As far as RPI goes... Pretty sure the dreams of the NIT need to be thrown out the window. Unless Cain is a revelation, this team will struggle all year. I'm not surprised at all at what happened in PR, except for us winning that 3d game with Roberson on the bench. Well, maybe I'm also surprised Tomlinson came through in the clutch in the last game. There are some positive signs, but unless our frosh mature fast, I know we can't win much with what we have. Too many offensive limitations.

Agreed. To the casual fan it doesn't look that bad, since Maryland still has the "name". As I've said before, however, Maryland will finish no higher than 10th in the ACC and there's a good chance they'll finish even lower than that...like...last. In the end, it doesn't hurt our record since we would have lost to Iona had we beat Maryland, but that loss to the Terps has me seriously concerned. Not sure what to make of yesterday, on the one hand it's hard to really tell since Andre was hardly present, but on the other hand we've got to start seeing stronger production and smarter play from him. The bright side from yesterday was that Carlon had his strongest performance to date. At least we came out 1-2, in the first half yesterday it looked like we were on our way to 0-3 and complete meltdown.

I'm not confident about our chances at AFA. Should definitely be a win for the Buffs on paper, but you'd be crazy to have much faith in this team on the road at this point imo

Except for games against Notre Dame and Illinois (both at home), Maryland has a cupcake slate for the rest of its non-conference. They're 2-2 now, so we should see a team that finishes around .500 and in the Top 150 RPI. That loss won't hurt us much. Neither will Wichita State.

We absolutely cannot slip up again in the non-conference schedule, though. Every game is huge. 2-1 out of Puerto Rico would have given us some breathing room.

It would also help us a lot if Western Michigan gets its **** together. Gonna be tough for them at 0-4 with Purdue, Gonzaga and Duke still on their non-conference schedule. Let's hope they can get close to .500 before the MAC schedule starts and then they finish in the top 3 of their conference. Could turn them into a decent quality win.

The offensive rebound percentage is really one to worry about and keep an eye on. 28.2% is in the bottom 1/3 in the country. If CU continues to struggle shooting and they aren't getting second chance opportunities it is going to be a long season.

Team might screw up the non-con and this season might be lost, but I'm looking more towards conference play to when they start performing. It took us awhile last year before everything came together, and I expect it to take even longer this season with all the new faces.

One thing to think about is that we played that tournament without possibly our second best player. Adding Adams at some point in the next couple of weeks should be huge going further....any chances he plays Wednesday?

We will know tomorrow. Concussions are tricky.

I cannot see Tad letting Adams or Cain play Wednesday without practicing with the team in the last two weeks. Although, It would be nice to see them get back to practice for future games.

I had us going 0-3? News to me... look back on my prediction, had us 1-2 and squeaking out a win against Western Mich, doesn't get more accurate than that. I said we'd struggle early and we are... takes time to get chemistry and I have us losing to AF as well, if we don't, we'll be ahead of where I predicted. Despite my early season prediction, I've watched AF, CSU, Fresno, and Georgia this year, and ALL of them are mediocre at best. We SHOULD beat all of them, I just don't think we will.

We are also mediocre at best. I think we are better than those teams, but agree it would surprise me if we won all. Less than 3 of those and I will be unhappy.

hmm. well, you were the 6 and 6 guy right? oops. Oh well, guess I just had the lowest expectations out of everyone. I'm also pretty sure we are gonna lose tomorrow.
