Coach Embree: Pac 12 Coach of the year in 2012

I am starting the campaign early  I am serious though. With so many coaches especially in the Pac 12 South disappearing (UCLA, AZ, ASU) hard to believe those programs will be super competitive next year. Embree is going to lead a wicked recruiting class this year. We are going to have a true Pro Style QB (Wood) running the offense this year, those 15 Freshman who played this year will have a year under their belt, we will get Rippy back, and some of this big incoming class will contribute right away. We will have a full year under our belts with the new coaching staff, who showed improvements in game planning and execution towards the end of the year. We have the road losing streak monkey already off our back, and a more favorable schedule. I am not predicting we go to a BCS bowl or even win the Pac 12 championship but I think we have a very legitimate shot at winning the Pac 12 South or at least runner up to USC and some kind of bowl game. Sounds like coach of the year credentials to me!

Ahhh offseason kool-aid I have missed you, you taste so delicious.
Definitely drinking it now-I think it might be spiked too :rofl:But seriously-we shouldn't be worse than 3 teams who have to go through coaching changes. We already showed we can be better than Utah. So we are just left with USC who of course is much better than we are now. But they do have 10 less scholarship players next year. Still probably need a miracle to beat them on the road in case of tie-breaker. But again even if we don't beat them, we have to believe, or at least dream that we could be among the better South teams next year given all the above. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it until at least Game 1 of 2012

I think 7 wins is pretty realistic with our schedule. I don't think we will beat USC, but all the other south games are winnable.

5-7 at best.

really? Theres no reason we shouldn't start 3-0 with CSU, FCS and Fresno (Fresno isn't what they used to be, they aren't even as good as Hawai'i).

Then we have some very winnable home games in ASU, UCLA and Utah. Zona and Wazzu are winnable on the road, and I thin theres a good chance we upset somebody at home like Stanford or Washington.

If all those winnable games play out, thats 9 wins, but I see 7 being more realistic.

Well since it will never be given to a Ducks coach it wouldn't surprise me if a team like Colorado pulled it out.

I think we will be better than this season, but not sure how much better. We are going to be really young/inexperienced on offense. Depth will still be an issue just about everywhere as well, any injuries to starters will be magnified.

i'm hoping for 6 wins. i agree the Buffs should go 3-0 ooc, so that means they just have to find 3 wins somewhere in the 9 conference games. CU managed 2 conference wins this year so maybe we will see slight improvement on that number.

if CU wins 6, i don't see embo winning COTY, because i suspect one of the new hc's coming in to a program with way more talent already there will do better than 6 wins.

You have to admit that our schedule gets easier, especially with all the coaching changes in conference, replace Ohio state with fresno state, and a majority of the elite QB's in the conference being gone.

A key for us is the O-line, loved how they played in the Utah game. Play like that and we could do a lot better on offense. Wood will be key too. If he is as good as advertised, look out! Most talented QB we've had in a while and QB play has hurt us recently.

Who are you and what have you done with Liver? Liver only predicts 14-0

All good reasons for optimism. I think 5-6 wins (realizing the difference between 5 wins and 6 wins is huge) is a reasonable expectation given the light non-conference schedule and a bye during the season as well.

The youth at the skill positions on offense concerns me though. In an offensive-oriented league, we better have some guys producing quickly.

those games are winnable, but they are also very lose..able. we are once again going to be slower and smaller than most the teams we play. i think two years down the road is where we really turn it on.

Not that the Buffs can't beat Fresno next year but I thought they only had one or two seniors as starters on both sides of the ball this year?

So you dont think we have a good chance at going 3-0 in a very easy OOC schedule and then just improving by 1 game in conference play to go 6-6?

Do you really think we're going to feel sorry for you about that one? What do you expect when the team gets about a $billion in donations from Phil Nike Knight, already has world-class facilities. Oregon has already established itself as a BCS contender. Colorado, on the other hand, has a long way to go to get back to that! When you inherit a program as bad as ours has been, there is lots of room for improvement. Kelly inherited a heck of a program with some world class speed and talent from Bellotti.

leash, this thread happens every off season and every year we come short of expectations. sorry if i'm a little skeptical.

We have been disappointed so many times over the past decade or so you have every right to be skpetical. But if we can't be optimistic with 9 months left before the season starts, when can we? Embree and his staff are WAY different than really any coaches we have had since maybe Mac. Passionate, bleeds CU, speaks his mind, engenders commitment, etc. The way we ended this season at least left us with reason to feel more optimistic. There is no way we are a BCS team next year, but given our easier schedule, coaching turnover in Pac 12 South...hard to argue we won't be good enough for 6 victories this year.

You know what my favorite part about your weak ass attack was? I never asked for you to feel sorry and I just stated a simple fact. Bellotti had something to do with the talent, but Chip recruited a lot of this talent and speed that is making an impact. If you are going to flame please try harder!

i hear ya. i probably should have said "i think 5-7, but there is certainly a chance to be better with the easier schedule and new coaches around the league." :smile2:

Dude. You aren't on your home turf here. Boyd kinda nailed it because you were being a whiny bitch about how Oregon's coach will never win coach of the year. Oregon should be awesome every year because they have resources nobody else has. I could coach that team to a BCS bowl.

How the hell was I whining? I just pointed out a painfully obvious fact that Chip Kelly will probably never win coach of the year in the Pac-12 so Colorado has a great chance of winning it. I think some people have an odd definition of whining.

Bro, c'mon. Let me re-phrase your post: "Oregon's coach will never win coach of the year because we're so awesome all the time...:bawling: But, a ****** team like CU, now there is a team with a coach that could win coach of the year." I say you win the award for passive-aggressive post of the year.

Sure it can be read that way, but who reads everything in such a negative fashion? I mean I realize most Duck fans are idiots, but I would like to think of myself as an exception.

So how come a UofZero coach will never win it?
The job description is different. For most programs the job is to cobble together a winning season with what you have at hand. For UO coaches, they everything they could want, so their job description is "don't **** it up."

So how come a UofZero coach will never win it?

I realize voters are supposed to be unbiased, but sometime during the Bellotti era the voters seemed to snub him from 2 possible years where he was the favorite for the award. Now the belief is that Kelly has inherited all this talent (which is true to an extent) so he will not receive votes he otherwise might have. Like I said nothing is impossible, but it is more likely that one of the newer schools like Utah/Colorado or the new coaches like RR will win the award.
