Buffs Going Bowlin in 2012-That's the Goal!

This is similar to my thread yesterday about Embree as potential Coach of the Year next year. I think if we go bowling next year, he has a good shot at it. Turns out some of the players and Embree himself are now on record that the goal for next year is to go bowling.

I absolutely think this is doable given the easier schedule, 1 year of experience w/ new staff and new culture, some of the dead weight graduating and some promising new players at key positions. What do you guys think? Is Embree setting himself up for failure or is this a realistic goal? We all have seen empty promises and a lot of coach speak from Hawk and even Barnett with the RTD which never really happened.

I think it's a realistic goal but it will not be a cakewalk. We are losing our best WR, Olinemen, and RB.

very realistic.

csu, fcs and fresno should be given wins, win those and we just have to improve our conference record this year by 1 win..

ucla, zona, asu, wazzu and Utah are all very winnable. If we don't sweep those we should win at least 3 of 5.

i like our chances of possibly upseting stanford or wasgingron as well.

so really i see worst case 6 wins, best case 9 wins. 2nd or 3rd in the south

What flavor Kool-Aid are you drinkin cuz I could use some.

In all serious I think a 7 win season is very attainable.

csu should be no question
fcs should be no question, hawk is no longer our coach
Fresno is not what they used to be, more like a SJSU and the road monkey is off our backs
ucla will have a new coach. depends who they hire. a good hire might result in a loss since they have a lot of talent, but it is here.
same with zona, although I see a good possibility of a loss in this one
wazzu is still wazzu. we should have had them this year. we get payback
utah is still the same utah that will have to deal with a tough schedule, they will be worn down again when we meet.
washington is good, probably a loss, but it's here
stanford will be waaaaaaaay down. Luck was their team. Our best chance for an upset

I think 7 wins is attainable. Of course, I've thought that every year for the last 6 years.

It's a legit goal.

It's a stretch goal.

I my koolade has the flavor of a large senior class that will be graduating. It's hard to pick it up where we left off when CU's starting QB, leading rusher, leading receiver and best offensive lineman are seniors who leave a significant vacuum on the offense. And the defense seriously needs some depth.

5-7 is my expectation until the 2012 depth chart comes more into focus.

We're in for a treat with Connor Wood. We don't know what good QB play is

I hope you are right. He might be the best CU qb since Dettmer. He might be another Colt Brennan, Clark Evans or Brian Cox. It's too early to tell.

Wood hasn't yet earned the starting job, he hasn't had a single college start and hasn't taken a single college snap.

If CW does win the starting job, he will green and prone to making rookie mistakes. This happens to the best of them. We'll learn alot in spring and fall camp, and even more by the end of OCC play.

If your expectation is 1 win away from a bowl game, then doesn't that mean you agree with a bowl game being a reasonable goal for the team?

Yes. Like I said, it's a stretch goal to double the number of wins next year.
It's reasonable to have stretch goals that are between possible and impossible.

Seems like an ambitious goal. It's good to have ambitious goals. As long as you don't get down on yourself if you come close but fail to make it.

But I don't think you guys should take Fresno State for granted.

FS?? They shouldn't take that D2 school for granted...

Never. Fresno State always has a ton of talent. The list of FSU guys in the NFL is impressive. They've been kind of a mess for a while, though. It's a game we should win, but could easily lose. I'm glad that's game three instead of the opener.

is this the same Conner Wood who transferred from Texas as he didnt have what it takes in Brian Harsin's eyes to beat out David Ash, Case McCoy..... and even better Garrett Gilbert who has also quit the team and transferred to SMU??

I agree.... with the last comment comment....

I can't see how our offensive line will be better than this years. Of course if they play smarter and get less penalties they should be close to equal.
Our running back play will likely be down. Speedy is much better than Tony Jones.
Our wide receiver play will be down. As much as I am surprised to say this. T.Clemons turned into a very good WR in the second half of the season. I just don't think McCullough or anyone else is ready to reproduce his numbers.
We are also losing a QB with a heck of a lot of experience. It will likely take C.Wood/Hirsh/Dillon at least 6 games before they can get up to speed with timing and the intricacies of running the offense.
My guess is the TE position will be better next year.

Earlier I said 5 wins and I am sticking to it. I don't think there is anyway we pull the upset on Wash or Stanford. I do think we can compete with the rest of the Pac 12 excluding Oregon and USC. Just my 2 cents.

I'm well aware of all that, however watching film of him, looking at his size and seeing him talk, I like my chances that he is goign to succeed for us and fast. I thinjk he has a chip on his shoulder from the Texas deal. Very mature, confident and talented.

Why do you only show up in threads anymore when there is something about Texas or Oklahoma?
