It'd be a really interesting story to follow CU's recruiting for a season. I'd like to hear how they do it from the phone calls, texts and travel. All that stuff. I think it would be fascinating.

I would also likento hear how the staff is being received by high school staffs and next year's recruits. My understanding, and tell me if I'm wrong, the recruiting process begins at the beginning of a kid's junior year. That put us a good six months behind on this year's class. Next year will be the staff's first with a full two years of contact.

This staff absolutely has to do well this cycle. This is why they were brought in. And look at all the coaching change against teams we recruit against. Hopefully they win a few battles in Texas, because I see 10-12 freshmen playing again.

Sometimes earlier.

We're definitely just starting to build pipelines. More important that getting in on prospects super early is the relationships built with coaches. This takes a few years before word starts getting around in our target areas about how our coaches stood by their word, did well by the kids they recruited, and that Colorado is an offer that needs to be considered very highly.

I haven't heard about any of the staff leaving or being let go, so this should help recruiting as well?

Yep. The entire staff is expected back for 2012. Embree said that he has already given them all their end of season reviews and done the review on himself. He mentioned that one of the things he needs to work on is his demeanor and language on the headset during games when he's talking to his coordinators.

If Embree has to work on his language, wtf does EB have to do?

Embree deflected the question a bit by talking about what was in his own review. He made the right decision not to talk about what was in his reviews of his coaches. I'd assume that EB has some of the same areas for improvement that Embo does. :wink2:

Rep. Thank you.

Is this a little light for Colorado? I recognize Colorado may not be overloaded with talent, but I would love to close the borders.

In general lots of great areas, particularly the large focus on southern California.

New Jersey and Florida not getting enough attention.

not enough bang for the buck with our limited resources. JE's phillosophy is recruit our footprint (CO, CA, Pac NW, AZ) plus TX. Let kids from other areas recruit us. We've never had much luck in bringing east coast kids west. The only reason we're in on Yuri is because of Tony Jones (CU took a flyer on him; he had no other BCS offers). Same with De'Jon: Harrington is the reason we're on him and the other DC CB

I like it. I think we will see some tweaks in Colorado going forward, either an additional coach or shuffling coaches around.

One other thing to keep in mind is that staying within the footprint we are generally going to be competing with other P12 schools for the same commits. Any commit we get over them makes them have to move on to their next option and generally weakens them long term whereas winning a recruiting battle in Florida doesn't do that.

We only have so much time and money for recruiting. CU has to focus on its core areas. Even coach Mac decided that he could not focus on Florida and that was his area when at Michigan.

I like the focus we have now.

Colorado is Brookhart with an assist from Brown. The head coach doesn't take an area. He helps recruit everyone and may take the lead on some specific targets.
Isn't Embree limited on the number of times he can have contact with a player? The head coach is usually the closer. Kind of like the "manager" at the car dealership.

No limits on Facebook messages or having the prospect initiate the call. Travel and in-homes are much more limited for a HC, though.

Cabral was recruiting Las Vegas, with a high population of Poly kids. Wonder if Nobriga's deal has an effect?

Yeah. Thats what I meant. HC has to save his face to face visit for the right time.
