...what exactly is our hold-up? From what I heard from you guys, our scoreboards nowadays are flat-out embarrassing. surely MSU can't have that much more money that we do after our spiffy little TV deal.

Spartan Stadium may soon have new scoreboards. Michigan State University administrators will ask the Board of Trustees Friday for approval to begin the planning process on an $8 million upgrade to the stadium’s scoreboards and sound system, university spokesman Kent Cassella said in an e-mail to the Free Press.

If the project moves forward, Spartan Stadium would be following in the footsteps of Michigan Stadium, which upgraded its scoreboards before the start of this year’s football season.

No time like the off-season, Bohn!

Agreed. They are complaining about the boards from 1998. Ours are from the early 90's and don't even show a picture.
Needs to get done.

I doubt ours cost $8MM

If you are going to do it, don't half ass it and get some quality ****. Doesn't have to be the size of the ones in Austin, but they should be the as nice as any other school in the Pac 12 except for maybe Oregon.

Just making conversation, how would you upgrade the video boards?

eg. For the board on the north end, would you make it slightly bigger while still fitting (squeezed in between the "chimneys") into Dal Ward or a much bigger upgrade by building on top of Dal Ward? Or make the south end have the featured bigger board (though it doesn't make as much sense since the bottom of the "U" faces north) since there more than enough room to work with?

Speaker to Speaker & twice as high with a new sound system and equal to that on the south end. And while were at it, new LED TV's to replace the 1980's versions on the concourse.

Size has already been determined, the preliminary photo representation used when they started the glory colorado initiative, shows the video screen taking up basically the whole board that is there now, maybe slightly wider, Advertisements from our sponsors will be on the video board, not around the trim.

Not to take away from the real point of the thread, but MSU may have quite a bit more money than we do -- 75k seat stadium that is pretty much always full, plus two other solid revenue sports in basketball and hockey, a student body that is nearly twice as big as ours, and the BTN, which has done very well for conference members the last few years. Doesn't mean we shouldn't have enough for the new scoreboards, though.

Went to a game at Spartan Stadium this season - their scoreboards and scoreboard setup are worse than ours - they only had one videoboard for the whole stadium and it was worse in quality compared to what I remember Folsom's boards being (with the caveat that I haven't been to a game in Folsom since 2007)...
