Son of former Seahawks CB Will Lewis. Really raw and has been playing for about 6 games.

New article from Scout:

Lewis plays running back and cornerback for Eastlake, currently undefeated and ranked among the top teams in state. He is comfortable playing either position in college and Colorado has already made their plans clear.
“They want me to play cornerback,” said Lewis. “That is fine with me, I am just happy to get onto the field anywhere I can.”

As we were discussing in another thread, so much of scouting and ratings stem from the junior year. In this case, it's no wonder that Lewis went completely under the radar. Love the pedigree and the speed here.

Eastlake graduated the league’s leading rusher, Kyle Lappano, but Dales is excited about the prospects of his new starter, Ryan Lewis.
The 5-11, 175-pound senior runs a 4.4 second 40-yard dash. He spent last season on the bench with hip and hamstring problems, but is fully healthy this year.

“He’s a specimen to look at and he’s fast,” said Dales, noting his elusiveness and explosiveness could make him one of the biggest surprises in the league this year.

Seen a few pictures, the guy looks like a CB with great genes. Dude is cut.

Seems like most HS's will put their best athletes at HB... so maybe in this early stage, it's GB's MO if he can't land the best corner than to find the best athlete he can build over the long term and develop them. Several schools of thought. Hard to argue with either. Would be nice to get the guys that can step on the field day 1 though with where we're at depth chart wise.

Raw and lanky 6'0 CB with no coaching and tons of speed? Yup, Brown is gonna love him.

Would take this kid over Mosely.

I can't really tell. There's just not the film. Both come from great high school programs and both performed. Lewis did lead his team to a #1 ranking in Washington for much of the season from the RB position (I think they lost in the state championship game, though).

hmmm no other schools looking at him?

Definitely a "hmmm". You'd think a guy who plays for a top program, stands about 6 feet tall and runs in the 4.4s would be getting a lot more attention even if it was offers from regional programs like Idaho, Idaho State, Eastern Washington, etc.

A kid like this may have other offers and isn't bothering to keep the services informed. If he doesn't have other offers I'd be shocked. Or he has some nasty disease.

Great pedigree, wicked physical attributes including SPEED, who cares if noone else offered. Even if he is lacking in major experience his dad played the position in the NFL-some of that knowledge had to rub off on him. Even if he doesn't start next year with other more seasoned CBs he could still earn playing time in nickel packages and special teams. I bet you our special teams are much improved by mid-year next year with so much increased speed coming in.

I've seen Ryan Lewis play 5 times this year. My son played at Eastlake a few years back. He is incredibly fast, running a 4.33 during the pre-season testing period. He was voted 1st team all-league, all-area, and all-state. He had over 1700 yards and 25td's.

Lewis has an offer from Utah. He is currently being recruited by West Virgina, Washington, ASU, Oregon St. and Nebraska.

He comes from a good program with great coaching. Eastlake went 10-2 this season beating the eventual state champions Skyline in the league title game where Ryan had 206 yards and 3td's and played corner the entire night where he gave up one short pass to Max Browne the top rated Junior QB in the country.

Thanks for the info, looks like a good athlete and a good kid.

Thank you for joining the board and sharing the info. Great stuff.

Because Lewis has been so poorly covered by the big pay sites (and ignored by ESPN), we're starving for information. Especially since his senior film hasn't gone up on youtube or hudl. Looking at his size, speed and production for a top program it just doesn't add up that he's not getting more attention. I guess it proves the point about how ridiculously skewed toward the junior year the star ratings and recruiting coverage really are.

A kid that is humble and grateful for an opportunity is a powerful combination. We see high school stars fall off the college map because of their reluctance to get better. It seems that Lewis has had to prove himself in a one year examination, and he performed amazingly. This kid seems like he has a team-first attitude, and that is something that will take him a long way in a JE system. He would be a steal for this recruiting class.

Not a determining factor but kids like this one and Clay Norgard have a huge advantage having fathers who experienced football at the college and pro level. No matter how good an athlete you are the adjustment to college can be tough and there are probably going to be times when you have some ups and downs. Having a father who can prepare you for these things and then help guide you through them if/when they happen can be huge.

It also helps a great deal that the kids are a lot less likely to come in with certain illusions because dad can dispell those before hand.

This is another kid that I am hoping we get on board and soon.

that logic didn't help us with the son of the Mav's GM a few years back. I think that kid may have been injured or just flat out didn't have it in his heart to work that hard for it. That's the other side of the coin.

Ussery had lingering concussion issues. He was never right. More than anything, dealing with that stole his confidence and his love for football. **** happens. I firmly believe that being the son of a coach and player is a positive.

Ultimately it is still up to the kid. Ussery did have some injury issues coming out of HS that never really healed, that is probably why Hawk was able to get him. He also seemed to not really be that dedicated to playing football. A big difference though as well is that dad was a basketball guy, not a football guy. Not in any way saying that basketball players don't have significant demands on them but the level of dedication and the overall climate and attitude is completely different.
