Ohio State banned from 2012 postseason participation

wow bowl ban in 2012. 9 scholarships gone in the next 3 years, and probation through 2013

That's nine guys who will end up somewhere else. Likely Michigan, MSU, or Wisconsin. That's gonna hurt.

I'm shocked the NCAA didn't punish us for scoring points when we played them this year.

I heard one of our recruits got an extra chicken nugget at dave and busters, we are getting the death penalty!!!

* Strip four more football scholarships over the next three years on top of Ohio State’s prior forfeiture of five scholarships over that span.
kind of vague. could be construed a couple of different ways imo.

I thought tOSU self imposed 5 per year over the next 3 years. So is this 4 more per year or 4 more total over the next 3 years?

3 a year is nothing for them, compared to USC, they got off light.

I'm with Syko here. The clip that they are recruiting at with their "second coaching staff," this will not hurt them much. Pretty surprising that they didn't get more of a hit considering the offenses, but what can you do?

Nope, that´s a TOTAL of FIVE schollies over that 3 year span. They clarified that when OSU first self imposed those penalties.

I guess the NCAA must have had to visit tOSU to announce this. They probably used their entire kneepad and chapstick budget in that one visit to Buckeye land alone....

Utterly ridiculous. This won't hurt them in any significant way. Yeah, they lose some money and a few scholarships. BFD. The money is a drop in the bucket to them.

Got to hand it to them, tOSU played this one the right way. They essentially threw Tressel under the bus and attached all of the stink from the scandal to him. So much so, that he carries the five year scarlet letter. In the meantime, they make a splash hire, getting an analyst from a major sports media outlet, so most of the coverage portrays them in a fairly positive light. Even going so far as to suggest that this was a stunning punishment handed down. Hats off to their administrators, they wiggled out of this one right nicely.

Maybe this is the NCAA's new plan: Slap the school on the wrist but ban the coach.

And people here underestimate Gordan Gee when he was here. If he was still CU pres we never would have been a program that hasn't breathed the Top 25 in the last, what, 6 years?

Pretty weak punishment but not surprising. What gets me is they continued to break rules after the initial stuff came out, still a slap on the wrist. A program of less clout would have been hammered.

If it looks like a wristslap, and smells like a wristslap, then if probably is a .....

Amazing amount of $ available at blowhio state. They're basically paying for 2 coaching staffs at the moment. And since the second (Meyer's) staff is out recruiting, there's probably been very limited contact between them and the current players. This could mean very few (if any at all) transfers since the returning players won't have had any time to figure out if they mesh with the incoming staff -- until after the bowl game, which by then, it's probably too late.

I don't think I've ever seen a situation where a school has more than one staff, active, and on the payroll.

Happening at UCLA too.
