First, I'm stealing Snow's great work from the Roster & Schedule thread, so everyone needs to rep him for that. Here's what our roster is expected to look like next year:

Now according to that chart, we'll only have one senior next year -- and it's someone that's not on scholarship. But I'm operating under the assumption that something will be done so that we're going to have a little flexibility (Dre going pro? Transfer? Injury?). So I want everyone to pretend that we have ONE scholarship for the 2013 season. What do you want most addressed? Obviously, if it comes down to getting Chris Thomas or some stiff center who has never played the game before, we're going to want Thomas regardless of position, so I don't want you to think about specific players. I want you to pretend that we're after five players, all of which that have the same talent level. Which one do you think the team could use the most?

And by the way, if you haven't yet, you can check out some of the talent we're after in the 2013 class by looking at the AllBuffs Recruit Profile Index.

none of the above. I want a pure shooter to spread the floor, either swingman or PG. I selected the "knockdown the open J" option because that was closest. It would help if he could play D as well, we are definitely gonna need someone who takes pride in perimeter D next year.

This is exactly what I had hoped for with Jeremy Adams. I'm still holding out a little hope, but it goes down a bit each game.

A lot depends on how the guys currently on the roster progress along with our signed recruits who aren't here yet.

We have a huge gap at center. Dre isn't a big guy, he is a SF who attacks the ball in the paint but is not a C or a PF. Cain is he can stay healthy and develop is a true PF but is at a height dissadvantage even to a lot of other PFs, he in not a center.

Harris-Tunks looks like he is stuck where he is at developmentally. For a quality team he is no more than a back-up type of guy who can eat up some minutes and bang a little. He is a defensive liability against athletic big guys and an offensive liability period. Mills is intriguing but is just plain to thin to hold up against powerful guys and is still developing offensively. He has more potential that Harris-Tunks but potential means you can't do it yet.

Scott is reportedly close to 6'10" now and may even grow a little more with a solid body. That said I think his game will translate into a true 4 at the college level. This means that our hope for a solid Center relies on Gordon who has also grown and is reportedly at about 6'9" and still growing. His game looks to be that of a true center, although an athletic one who moves better than most. If he can continue to develop and grow physically we will be okay there, if not we have to find a center for the future.

None of our PGs look to be the true court general, pass first, traditional PG. That said a lot of teams are winning without that if they have a guy who can handle the ball some and create opportunities for other players. Dinwiddle may develop into that guy with Talton as a solid compliment to his game. If not then the PG arguement carries some real strength.

It all comes down to having a team with a lot more questions than answers right now. The direction for the future depends on a lot of "ifs" that need to be answered in the upcoming months.

A big man who can score. Heck, I'd even take a big man who can play lockdown D. No matter what, we need to get a big man who is athletic and plays big (not soft).

With two very solid bigs coming in next year, I think we should be OK in that area. That assumes they come in and perform the way we think they will.

Having a guy on the team who can consistently hit the three is a huge asset. It keeps teams from collapsing their defense and opens up driving and passing lanes. I'd say a pure shooting guard or small forward like a Levi Knutson would be the biggest need for this team.

With the way that we have signing day before the season starts, it makes this very hard. Since I haven't seen Talton, I don't know if we need a PG. We definitely have wings and bigs in the 2012 class. But does Talton end up being more of a 2 or a pure 1? I have no idea.

For now, I'll say PG and hope that between Talton and a PG that The Mayor will be able to take on more of a shooter/scorer role instead of having to run the team and be a distributor.

I agree that we could use a pure shooter, so that would be nice as well. I hope Ski can develop into a dead-on shooter, as I love the speed that he brings to the floor.

By BIG, I meant a pure center (like a 7 footer), so I should have been more clear. I feel like our team really struggles against a big man who plays really big. I'm really looking forward to having Scott on the team, but he's the only one coming in that I know of that's over the 6-6/6-7 range, and I'd like to see him playing more of a forward position where he can use his talents.

To use a tree analogy, I think it would be nice to have a big oak tree trunk to clog things up in the middle (like when we had David Harrison). While I don't hate our two big centers on the team right now, they remind me more of bamboo tree trunks than oaks. One could hide behind a bamboo tree, and the other doesn't play as big as his size.

This is a really great question due to the limited amount of schollies. I vote for a true big - not a fancy passing, or mismatch plays from the perimeter big; but a rebounds, blocks shots, and knock someone down when they come into the lane type of big. I know we may already have this on the roster with Cain, Scott and Gordon. The key word though is MAY. We have no idea how they will develop, so if I were coach, I'd be focusing on some nasties in the paint.

But honestly, take the best available, with one scholarship, is pretty hard to do.

I want a Big Country big. Huge 7' guy that may not be the most talented in the conference but has a great knowledge of the game and a nasty streak.

There aren't too many 7 footers who can play. If we can get one, of course we take him. But, realistically, we're probably more likely to find a big forward who can play. If my choices are between a PF and a PG, I take a PG in 2013.

This. I don't care what position he plays, but find someone who can hit 40%+ from behind the line, like Levi. You need that type of zone-buster to be successful at the college level.

After watching the game last Saturday, it looks to me like Dinwiddie may be that kind of shooter. Dude was nails. He was taking shots from all over the place and they were all falling. I was impressed. The kid is a gamer.

So does Booker become the PG next year?

I paid closer attention to this while at the Utah game, and my biggest takeaway from that was that our need is going to be for a pure PG. I know everyone loves to hate on Tomlinson, but he does a better job of seeing the court and distributing the ball than anyone else we currently have on the roster. The Mayor is doing a good job of creating his own shots and is becoming a good scoring threat, but he isn't looking two passes into the future the way that Nate or another true PG should. It feels like Dinwiddie is turning into the swing we need, and I think Scott is going to be the post presence that we want for the Pac-12 (big guy who scores inside, but doesn't lose speed in the post), but we're going to need someone who can feed those guys (and Dre if his offensive game ever gets going).

Honestly, I think Spencer has abandoned the PG game by necessity. The biggest thing people would hype about him when he was a recruit was his court vision and how he was a true PG. Hopefully when we surround him with some players who can create on their own (Xavier, Josh Scott), you'll see him shine.

That said, we really need Talton to pan out. We need some PG depth.

Perhaps, but if Spencer can continue to score like this, I'd rather have him focus on being that scorer than trying to force distribution. I haven't seen that part of his game yet at the college level, so it is hard to say whether or not he is seeing the open man the way a point needs to.

Agreed, we need PG depth in a big way.

CU needs a shooter, if you can have the Mayor continue to knock down shots like he has the last few games that just makes him that much more of a potent PG next year. When Nate is running the point against the zone there is no threat for him to shoot it, he is looking to swing the ball, if the Mayor can knock down that shot along with a knock down wing shooter that would really open things up.

Yes...we really need Talton to pan out. I hope he takes my doubts and gets fired up to contribute to the team.

I voted a big, but I agree, after that, I may be shopping big time for a PG depending on what I'm seeing in practice.

I really want a shooter even with Spencer's emergence in that area. One, you want more than 1 guy who can shoot . Two, I want Spencer to be a true PG unless the team needs him to put some buckets in. That makes us so much harder to defend.

I completly agree, and yes Spencer can shoot the ball, but I wouldnt call him a good shooter. I would say he is good enough to keep the defense honest and come out and guard him (something Nate does not do), but he isnt someone that a team has to follow even if he is 8 ft outside the arc. A guy like Knutson really stretched defenses a lot seeing as a defender could never be more than 5 ft from him at all times.

Still here, but he's played so the redshirt is no longer an option for this season.
