'12 CA TE Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick (Signed to USC)

No disrespect. But these types of arguments are pretty typical when a kid chooses to go elsewhere. Nothing wrong with getting a degree from USC.

It was determined we are allowed to trash other schools, just not the recruits. Right?

Why anyone would want to live four years in a compound is beyond me. USC sucks and their colors suck. Not only that, they are proven cheating bastards who would do just about anything to win and I highly doubt that it will change with the current staff.

Kiffin's wife makes all the coeds look ugly by comparison, so you will never really be the big man on campus.

Well done... that's the spirit

On a serious note, with Kiffins record or "respect and adherence to the rules" and $C's recent history including just finishing up major probation are they candidates for the death penalty.

The NCAA wants to pretend like USC can do no wrong but Yahoo sports sunk their teeth in last time and wouldn't let go. If it happens again what choice will the NCAA have, 20 schollies a year for 5 years?

“I really enjoyed my time there,” Cope-Fitzpatrick said. “It was a small group of visitors, I think there were just four of us total. That was cool though because I got to spend a lot of time with the coaching staff there and especially head coach Jon Embree. I get along great with Coach Embree and he’s one of the few coaches that I feel comfortable talking about anything, not just football.

“He has a great tight end background and knows how to use the tight end, but that’s not the most important thing to me. I just want to go somewhere that I’ll be comfortable and where I can really learn the position well and I know I’ll have that at Colorado. For me, it’s not about how many balls I’ll catch but learning the position, every aspect of it and I know Coach Embree can teach me that.”

“USC is still the team to beat,” Cope-Fitzpatrick said. “I like the program a lot and have a good relationship with the coaches. My mom wants me to stay close to home and the visit to SC next week is the only one she is taking with me. For me distance isn’t a factor, I’ll go wherever I feel comfortable.

“Coach Embree will be over for a home visit next week and I think UCLA and Oregon will be over this week or next as well. After my visit to USC, I’ll take a few days to think things over and then have a final decision next week. I’m ready for this to be over for sure. The recruiting process has been fun but every trip makes my decision harder so I’m looking forward to putting it behind me.”

Haha, I'd like to see coaches start looking at tapes of middle school football players! There is no projecting TOP talent at that age. He may only be dominant now because he is so much bigger than the other little CO kids he's playing against. Once everyone else starts catching up to his size, we'll see what kind of success he has. I'd wait until he is in 10th grade before you start pegging this kid for D1 football. No offense, it is just the truth. These stories are common.

I agree for football. Different in basketball. There are some 8th graders and HS freshmen who would start at PG for CU right now.

Sorry if already answered in thread but what do you guys think of JCF compared to Mcnamara?
Also is it just me or does it seem with the recruits we really like, we seem to have a lot of battles with their parents?

I don't think there is any issue at all with the character of our coaching staff and parents. I think the only issues that we run into is when a parent wants their kid to stay close to home. We have to GO to Cali and Texas for a majority of talent, whereas the local schools have that bargaining chip of seeing their kids play all the time to use against us. I would love for the Buffs to be able to close the borders to others, and believe that will come with wins.

In the beginning, I was higher on McNamara. He seemed to be more of a playmaker while Cope-Fitzpatrick looked like a guy who might end up playing OL instead of TE.

Then, I saw the new photos and film of JCF from his senior year and my opinion changed. I've been careful not to post an opinion because I didn't want to turn either guy off. Once the McNamara ship had sailed, I didn't post anything because I didn't want it to look like sour grapes.

But JCF had actually pulled a bit ahead in my estimation of who would be a better get for the Buffs. I feel that his game is better suited to what Embree and Bieniemy want to do with the tight end position in our pro style offense. He's shown that he can stretch the field but also that he's accomplished enough as a blocker to be on the field for every snap as a true freshman. I'm not sure I can say that about McNamara. I do think McNamara has better hands, though.

Anyway, it's splitting hairs. They're both great TE prospects.

As far as parents are concerned, it's always going to be that way at CU. Winning over parents was the secret to Mac's success. When you're asking parents to send their kids away to school (outside driving distance), it's going to come down to that a lot of times. We are looking out of state for 80+% of recruits. And it's not like we're looking in Wyoming, Kansas, New Mexico or Nebraska for talent, so it's going to be "away" for college.

I would take JCF, hands down. McNamara is very good, but JCF is a better all-around TE with higher upside.

(No sour grapes-losing out on McNamara was a big loss)

Personally, I view JCF as more of a big bruiser type TE (6'5, 250) who would be a better blocker. Maybe Daniel Grahamish? He may actually move to OT or DE if he gets much bigger. McNamara (6'5, 235) seems to be more of a faster receiving TE. I can't say I'd prefer to have one more than the other. It's apples and oranges.

Parents are just as fickle as the kids sometimes... Which sucks in JCF's case.

He moved way up into the Rivals top 250 and vaulted some other tight ends, including McNamara. Hoping Embree can pull off the big upset here, but looking doubtful.

Did JCF cancel the in-home with Embree for this week? If not, it's not quite over.

We should probably be watching the Vincent Hobbs situation closely, though. I haven't seen a UT offer show up after his visit yet.

Hasn't yet but what momma wants momma gets.
