That now makes Pac-12 schools upgrading facilities

UA
WSU
UW
Cal
UCLA
Utah
ASU (added because of http://www.houseofsparky.com/2011/7...thletics-to-build-new-football-stadium-pursue)

USC Stanford and UO just completed construction of new facilities or significant renovations to existing facilities

OSU is currently the only other Pac-12 team to not have completed or planned any significant facilities upgrades in recent history.

We are getting farther and farther behind the curve. There is apparently a plan but it is being held under wraps. These kind of announcements do so much for programs. Look what the new practice facility did for our court sports, before it was even finished. I know folsom is getting a facelift in time for next fall, with the new video boards, however a new sports complex with at least some concept drawings would only help our coaches on the recruiting trail, it would help secure more boosters because it would show that the AD is focused on improving the program, and it would give fans something else to be excited about. I think with this change occurring in our own conference along with the projected upgrades up in Fort Fun, our AD needs to make a big time announcement at the spring game.

On the first link I posted there is a link to the concept for the new addition. I think an option like that would work very well at folsom. It would basically just be an expansion of Dal Ward that would fully enclose our north endzone. By not adding a second tier to the bowl on that side we are not wasting money on excessive seating capacity upgrades yet we offer a good foundation to do that in the future. Plus we can add some club level box seating on that end. Attach a covered field and parking garage to the north end of franklin field and we are done. A plan like this would kill two birds with one stone while at the same time maintaining the large tailgating lot on the east side of the stadium.

The north end of folsom would be an absolute mess for a couple years but I think it would work well. Also would allow us to renovate rather than demolish the field house. ( I am partial to keeping it because it is one of the last remaining old style field houses. I think its a valuable asset to the gameday experience at Folsom.) Gut the interior and start over. New, bigger bathrooms. Permanent concessions. A team store and maybe a club area (In the future could be turned into a restaurant/bar once they lift the stupid alcohol ban.) Demolish the old press boxes and re-do those. (I dont think there is any revitalizing of those)

I don't disagree with you, but you have to realize that these things take time. The UA project - according to the article - took 15 years from concept to start of construction. Absolutely yes, we desperately need to have facility upgrades. But in today's instant gratification TwitterWorld, we also need to accept that not everything can be accomplished with a snap of magic fingers. As long as CU is actively working on plans (accepting the current rumors that they are), all will be well my young friend.

They also mention that it only took so long because the AD dragged its feet. I know that we won't get the facility over night, that wont happen. However I would like more substance than internet rumors that the AD is actively working on this. A concept, a fundraising campaign, the AD to actually mention it is coming. Anything is better than appearing to fans, recruits, and other schools that we are sitting on our hands.

You need to understand something that's very important - there are two phases of any fundraising (capital) campaign: The silent phase and the public phase. The silent phase is by far the most important. It's where you get the majority of your funds. The silent phase is conducted with large donors who make up the vast majority of the total amount raised. Depending on the size of the campaign, the silent phase can take 3-4 years, maybe longer. You go to the public phase once you reach 75%-80% of your total campaign goal. All indications are that we are now very close to going public with this, which means we're a lot closer than you think we are.

Good than an announcement should probably be able to be made at the spring game. It would be the perfect time to release any news of football facility upgrades. Our signees will likely be there, so it gets them excited. Our hardcore fans will be there, so it gets them excited. The class of 2013 invited members will be there, so it gets them excited. I am hoping you are right that we are a lot closer than I think. I hope this is what happened to that group of super donors and they have been involved in this part of the project for a while now.

Good on them for having a master plan to expand to 70k officially in place since '07. The current phase is costing them $72 mil.

Gotta cross your fingers that we finally get the long awaited announcement this spring.

I hope there is some reasonable proposal for upgrades that will be announced soon. My fear is that it will be a very minimal, conservative plan. That seems to be the M.O. Of course, that is better than nothing. While I would like to see CU make a real commitment to athletic excellence I am not suggesting a complete sell out a la, NU, Miami or any other place where the FB team runs the school. But if you look at UNC, Mich, Cal, those places seem to be able to keep their integrity and still field competitive teams.

I've said it before, MB does many things well, PR, budget mgmnt., but my impression is that he works under the contraints of balancing the budget, keeping a "clean" image and keeping third parties happy, which often, but not always, conflict with the pursuit of W's. Unfortunately when those interests do collide, competitve excellence takes a back seat IMO.

My prediction is that there are indeed facility improvements on the way. They will be "middle of the road". Enough to keep the heat off the admin. and give the appearance of pursuing athletic excellence, but nothing really over the top, or even on par with what others have announced. With this crew in charge, they will always be chasing the curve. Others will act, CU will react, doing just enough to keep up appearances. Gordon Gee in long gone folks....

from everything starting to come out, you would be wrong.

Believe me, no one would be happier to be wrong than I. I have heard everything form massive project, to nickels and dimes, I don't know what to believe. But seeing how many penny pinching decisions have been made in the past (keeping D II, letting Patton hang around until his contract expired) it doesn't seem unreasonable to want to see the adimn.'s actions match the bluster.

Agree with Lefty...not expecting much other than the new scoreboards but I guess anything is better than nothing. I hope I'm wrong and we will get an announcement about a new practice facility and weight room or anything really tangible but it sounds like its at least 2 or 3 years off at the earliest. The funny thing is some of the other projects that have been built/being built on campus will at least indirectly help recruiting i.e. the CMC with its dining hall, dorm remodels and new rec center addition which will start construction soon. Hopefully the AD and admin will prove me wrong and will get some nice additions but I'm sure not counting on it, hell we didn't even get a fully lighted field until 2008 lol!

Unless a lot of people very close to the program are wrong, it is going to be big. The fact it is starting to hit credentialed sites means an announcement is probably not very far off.

You know it is big and legit if Boulder Buff is touting it :smile2:
