Do We Have Any Schollies Left?

This is probably available somewhere on the board, but I can't find it. With the Powell commit, are we left without any scholarships available? Are we full, or are we still looking at adding some guys?

Well if Jacobs or Solomon commits... We'd have 28. GS for McCartney, Peyton Williams and maybe another or someone doesn't qualify.

Do you know this or just speculating? I think he would be a prime grayshirt candidate too, but everything I've seen suggests he's going to try to make it to campus this fall.

I'm a little surprised by the lack of turnover on the roster after the season. The staff ran off a few guys in fall practice, and there have been a couple of academic casualties this month, but I honestly thought that we'd see a mini-exodus of Juniors and Sophomores who either 1) realized this wasn't the picnic Hawkins promised them anymore, or 2) saw the writing on the wall with all the playing time Embree's freshmen got.

i'd expect a couple of the recruits might not make it thru admissions (despite what everyone says now) and after Spring ball a few others already on the team may leave so the numbers will probably work themselves out. if not, embree has some tough decisions to make.

I know some things. But not lots of things. Otherwise, I'm just speculating that he wouldn't be 100% by summer camp.

By my count we have 26 commits. Something has to give. I guess McCartney is the GS, and the 26 accounts for Wood and Norgard as EE's or Transfers. I don't know how you get anymore commits without expecting some grade casualties or asking kids to GS.....

So early enrollers count toward the 28 max you can sign in a year? If so, that's stupid.

Seems like there is some misinformation here and I am no expert but I am pretty sure that early enrollees count against last year's class and GS I believe can be current or next year's as determined by the school. But I also believe you can sign a maximum of 28 in any specific class and I believe with Powell (not including McCartney or Norgard) we are now at 28.

If that is true, than we we can not announce anymore signees unless we convince someone else to GS or someone is ineligible. Not sure what that means about a potential commit from Jacobs and makes it look even more certain that Solomon is not in this class unless he and the staff are considering him for GS.

Need someone smarter than me, but it sounds like even though the scholarship for an EE counts back and for a GS (can) counts forward, the LOI counts towards this year's max of 28 LOIs you can sign.

Pretty sure you're right, but the new rule changes the LOI number to 25 and removes the EE from that equation.

I'll post it here rather in the other silly thread. Solo is not coming here. Period. Not if we have 4 scholarships open. We have been full at the position for a week now. He was told he did not have a committable offer. Move on guys.

has been, 'holic. The new change will make it so that a school can take 25 per class, with dubious wording about signed loi's between the beginning of the year to the end of May.

I can't wait to see how the $ec thwarts this latest attempt by ncaa.

15.5.1.10 Offers Exceeding Maximum Allowable Award
An institution may offer more than the maximumnumber of permissible awards in a sport (per Bylaw 15.5) in anticipation that not all of the offers will beaccepted, but the institution shall not exceed the awards limitation in the sport in question.

15.5.1.10.1 Limitation on Number of National Letter of Intent/Offer of Financial Aid Signings—Bowl Subdivision Football. [FBS]
In bowl subdivision football, there shall be an annual limit of28 on the number of prospective student-athletes who may sign a National Letter of Intent or an institutionaloffer of financial aid from the initial signing date of the regular signing period of the National Letter
of Intent through May 31. (Adopted: 1/16/10 effective 8/1/10)

Is Norgard counting toward this year or last since he enrolled early?

Miami is at 32.

Norgard wouldn't be signing an NLI as he's already in school and would have signed a financial aid agreement. That's my guess. I think we got room for one more under the 28.

But a couple more greyshirts need to be given to someone.

Norgard is counting towards last year. I read it here, somewhere. Maybe a Nik post.

We know his scholarship will count towards last year's max of 25 scholarships per class. The questions we seem to not know the answers to are: (1) is there actually a 28 commitment limit and (2) if so, does an early enrollee's acceptance of financial aid count towards this year's 28 limit?

Aren't those the same?

There's also the other route Ringo mentioned in his article. Have the parents pay the enrollment deposit of $300 and then they go on scholarship after June 1st if there are spots open (which I assume there would be). No LOI means that you can sidestep the rule of 28.

I don't know, but I could see them being different things. As I understand it, you can only have 25 scholarships per class. An early enrollee's scholarship definitely counts back. But, that doesn't mean he doesn't count towards this year's maximum of 28, to quote from Aero's post above "prospective student-athletes who may sign a National Letter of Intent or an institutional offer of financial aid from the initial signing date of the regular signing period of the National Letter of Intent through May 31."

Seems unclear to me how it would work. Logically, it seems like if the scholarship counts back, so should the "signing." But, I haven't seen anyone post yet that seems to know for sure.

This is tough with it coming down to the wire like this. Solomon would be a great to have. We may have OVER offered early on and gotten a couple guys we maybe shouldn't have... But that is hard to go back and judge. We seemed to jump on 3 WR's early. Gerald Thomas being my favorite. Had we signed only one or two, we may have still been in on an elite one now. We also may have been able to take the risk on Rippy.

Live and learn I suppose. CU has started to open some eyes in the PAC12 on the recruiting front. Now let's start opening them on the field too!

This is a very kind way of saying Solomon will not be apart of this class. We were only going to accept 5 corners and we got verbals from 5 before Solomon decided. It doesn't matter how bad any of us, or him for that matter, want him to be a Buffalo. The grayshirt idea was a legitimate idea that would leave it in the hands of the coaches to decide if they want to do that.

As far as numbers. You can only sign 25 per class in every year up to a max of 85 total. If you only have 15 scholies to give because you have 70 players coming back. You can't sign 25 unless 10 are willing to grayshirt. Grayshirting is a good idea but it cuts into your recruiting for the next class.

We signed 22 last year. The coaches were hoping for 3 early enrollees. One of the reasons why we pushed for Taylor McNamara who is at OU right now. Only Norgard will count towards last year. With McCarntney grayshirting, we could only sign all together 27. One forward and one backwards and 25 left. The fact that we are at 26 suggests that our coaches expect someone not to make it in academically. If all make it in, one will have to grayshirt even if we lose 10 players due to quitting after the spring. You can only have 25 a class.
