Expectations for the 2013 class?

We know it will be a small class, so the overall class ranking might not be the best metric to use. With that in mind, what expectations do you have for the next class?

More in-state success?
More 4* players?
Certain positions that need to be addressed?

I expect:

More in-state success.

I want (and expect to some degree):

Offensive Game Breakers. Someone with serious wheels and the ability to make guys miss. Maybe we already have someone like that coming in the 2012 class, but I want more. When we were good we had at least a few of these guys and they were receivers, kick/punt returners and backs.

I think it will be Embree's best class yet.

I also think it will be a full class, or if not very close (at least 20+)...

In-state: I'd like 4 or 5 in state guys MAX per year. I definitely want a bigger influence from the local kids, but I don't want them to be MOST of what we get. I want us to keep pulling the majority of our talent from CA and TX with a few commits from HI, AZ, WA or the East Coast.

Offense: O-Line has to continue be the biggest priority for a team in our position. Once we have that part of our program established, we will also need the big time play makers to get the most out of our team.

Defense: LB's, DT's and Safeties! We need to improve our defense up the middle of the field big time.

We really need some big-time playmakers at skill positions on offense. Right now, we have one; that isn't nearly enough.

I'm far less concerned about signing in-state players, as I am about signing quality players. I don't care where they are from, but I expect to have a class that upgrades talent, speed, and addresses positions of need.

#1 priority is Fox.
Talent and depth at OL and LB, regardless of where they come from.
A game changer at RB.

Cannot disagree with anyone thus far.

I think one thing I would add is we need another quality QB prospect in this class. At least three BCS-caliber QBs on the roster at any given time should be the norm going forward.

 Much rather deal with holes due to transfers out then holes due to never getting them here.

I think a high rated QB is going to be difficult to get in this class. Wood is a Sophmore, Dillon a RS. Anybody who comes in 2013 will have to wait a minimum of 3 years to play, and then will have to try to get the job away from Dillon. That's a tough sell, IMO. I think, with the size of this class, that QB should be somewhere down on the list of priorities. I understand that injuries happen, and that depth is important, but I also think that next year Dillon won't be playing anyway, so depth isn't going to be an issue. We can address that need in the 2014 class if we need to. If a really good QB happens to fall in our lap, then you obviously take him.

I'm not that concerned about instate talent either. It seems we can find plenty of kids that would love to put on a Buff uniform from other states so I'm inclined to roll with that.

I see value in the * system personally so I'd like to see some fours and even a five if the staff can entice them in.

I think coach Embree mentioned that after normal attrition he expects about 18 scholarships to be available and I'd like to see them spent on offensive line, linebackers, big, fast wide receivers and a big, strong, fast running back that about half a dozen top 25 programs coveted.

False. Why do people insist that we'll have 20 or more commits? I'm thinking it will be 13-15.

Attrition, and lots of it.

I can't believe Embree is perfectly happy with the makeup of the team. There are certainly some talented young players. It is his job as coach, however, to make CU the best it can be. Why would he not take 20 or more players unless he feels the guys he has will take CU to another conference or national championship? I dont' think the current scholarship numbers will be a limiting factor due to attrition (player's grades, attitudes, injuries and various other reasons). This rebuild is still young and the one thing that will hurt most is to not bring in Embree's recruits to turn it all the way around.

I could be wrong but I think the numbers will work out and CU will get a solid class both from a numbers and talent-ratings perspective.

I expect that the foundation of the class will be to get early commitments from 3 of the top 4 in-state prospects (TE Parsons, RB Lindsay, OT Skipper). Fox is going to be a tough get for us to make it a CO sweep, but we've got a puncher's chance.

For 2013, I want to see a very balanced class:

QB - 1
RB - 1 (Lindsay)
FB - 0
WR - 1
TE - 1 (Parsons)
OL - 3 (Skipper + 2)
DT - 1
DE - 1 (McCartney-GS)
LB - 3
DB - 2
K/P - 0

That's 14 for the class and it addresses our basic needs.

If we can take more than 14, I think we can go with "best player available other than QB or specialist" to top it off.

My projection is for us to get enough highly-rated talent to pull another class ranked around #30 in the nation despite lower numbers.

I dunno, I actually think the depth chart looks pretty desirable to a blue chip prospect. The key is getting them to look at us in spite of the record. We really need to land one in the 2013 class, knowing full well that he or Dillon may not finish their careers here. The QB "competition" at CU has mostly been a running joke for the last decade.

Nik is the only one who mentioned TE in this thread. While we got some good ones with upside potential we all know how much JE covets a blue chip TE and we missed out on 2 for 2012. I'd be shocked if JE doesn't pull out all the stops to get one, and of course Parsons is way up there on the list.

Chris Fox, Hoover, and Mitch Parsons
Some 4* OL's
Some 4* LB's

I'd be fine with adding Skipper in there but it looks like a week CO class this cycle.

I don't think Hoover's going to be qualified (at least not early). Otherwise, I think we'd be all over him. Very talented kid.

CU needs burners at WR and RB more than we need linemen and linebackers, IMO. Also, a blue-chip qb would be great.

We got a burner at WR in Gerald Thomas and a steal at RB with Abron. We need to hit LB and OL hard this cycle, especially since we're losing two of our best LB's.

Top talent is a no-brainer on offense. We'll take that every year. But O-Line, D-Line are the keys to success right now.
