Highlights of the Scott vs Gordon matchup from last night

Incredibly impressed with Scott.
Not sure what is going on with Gordon's hair though.

bank shot at the end by Scott =

Interested to see how they do in the college game. They are gonna have some adjusting to do. Both of them got away with shots that wouldn't fly in college, and that was against each other .

But that left handed finish by Scott to put his team up for good... that was nice.

Josh Scott is incredibly advanced for a high school big man. He would start for CU right now and we'd be a tournament team. I was going to try to hold the hype down, but I think he's underrated at this point. Forget what I had said about Shane starting next year until Scott develops. This kid's the real deal.

:woot:

It's going to be so nice to have a physical presence who isn't 3 for 7 on easy two handed dunks and isn't slower than old people ****ing.

I can't wait to see the team with a legit post presence next year! Scott's got a more cerebral game that won't always attract a lot of attention, but he can finish, run the court and make a ft. I think Austin's 11 and 6 is a pretty good goal for Scott next year.

I'd be absolutely thrilled with 11 and 6 for Scott. If he can run the floor and shoot FTs, I think the 11 is doable. It's the 6 I worry about, given that he'll be an 18-year-old playing in the paint.

Scout now has highlights of Gordon for that game (premium): http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/1158619.html

What I love about him is that he's naturally strong. He doesn't get moved off his spot easily and when he goes up in traffic he's able to finish.

Beyond that, his timing is elite. Like with Dre, this is something you simply can't teach. It makes him a great shot blocker and rebounder. Not seen on this film but something I noticed at last year's CO All-Star game at the Pepsi Center is that Gordon has a natural understanding of floor spacing and positioning, which is great for team basketball and makes him a very effective passer from the post. He's a perfect complement to Scott as our front line.

Before this season, I was really excited about our defensive potential. Gordon could be an All-PAC defender. Scott's a good defender. XJ is a good defender. Now that I've seen what Boyle & Co's coaching can do with team defense, I'm even more excited. We could have a lock down defensive team next season.

I think we could be good next year, but it will be Andre's senior year in 2013-14 that CU should be elite because everyone significant will have had a year of college experience (XJohnson, Scott and Gordon as sophomores!)

If this all works out like we think (hope) it will next year, we're gonna have some sick depth.
Actually, the depth next year is my biggest worry, especially in the backcourt. Ski, Dinwiddie, XJ, Dre and Scott are a solid starting 5, with Gordon and Simba bringing some frontcourt depth. Unless XT or Jenkins step up, though, Chen and Adams will need to log some significant minutes.

I'm thinking that XT and Jenkins come in with a bit of a chip on their shoulders. If true, those 2 with Chen, Adams, Gordon, and Simba will make for some really competitive practices, and also give the coaches a lot of flexibility come game time.

What concerns me is who will step up as team leaders? Austin and Nate, and to some degree Carlon, have all had to work hard to improve their games. I'm hoping Dre, Adams, and Chen will be the upperclassmen who help instill those values and work ethic in the young guns, but all 3 seem to be the "quiet" types. Hopefully ......

This is going to change after we sign a Point/Combo guard this spring (April 11 - March 16).

I think the starting 5 will look like this:

1- <spring guy>
2- Mayor
3- XJ
4- Dre
5- Scott

First 5 off the bench:

1- Ski
2- Shane
3- Chen
4- Gordon
5- Adams

If Adams can find his confidence and shot, he could move way up that list.

If that last schollie goes to someone who can start, leaving Ski as the 6th man, this team will be dangerous! I'm just skeptical that guy's out there. Do you think Taylor or Harris can be an immediate starter?

This concerns me somewhat as well, but then, we're not seeing a ton of leadership from the seniors anyway, imo. Dinwiddie seems to be the most natural leader on the team. He, Ski, and Dre will all need to step up next year.

Yes. Both are 3pt shooters with good length, ability to break down a defense off the dribble, and strong mid-range games. Pretty much exactly what we need from a PG in our system.

And realistically, I guess we don't need a star there, just someone who will give a solid 20 minutes or so. Ski will likely be the one on the floor at the end of the game. Ok, you're starting to convince me that using that 6th scholarship this year may be the way to go. I guess that would make Talton and Jenkins likely redshirt candidates then too.

We certainly didn't have a star there this year. Nate (good Nate) is a solid system guy who plays good defense. But he's not a game changer.

To add depth next year Tad is giving Beau Webb a shot to earn a scholarship next season to add a three point threat.

Agreed 100%. And with Dre and Dinwiddie getting another year under their belts and Scott coming in, the rest of the lineup will likely have an edge over this year's squad.

I dont know if i exactly agree with this statement. We can all agree that nate doesn't have eye-popping numbers, but he also provides leadership and understanding of the offense that will be extremely difficult to replace (i can't believe i'm saying this). I've heard Tad say numerous times that Nate is the most important player on our team. Watch when the team huddles during the game, Nate is telling everyone what to do. Secondly, even though Carlon has been inconsistent this year, I still see him being the guy that everyone else looks to when we need to score. I think the mayor can step into this role, but we will have to see.

I do think next year's lineup, 2-5, will be better than the lineup around Nate this year. I expect big strides from both Spencer and Dre, particularly with Dre playing alongside a legit post presence for the first time. There will be a step back from Carlon to Johnson, at least initially, but I think that will be more than offset by improvements at the other positions.
