Mandel's one of the few good sports journalists left. As usual, this is a high quality article from him.

I liked this quote from Larry Scott:

"If we're successful," said Scott, "it will look different from any sports channel people are used to watching. It will feel 'West Coast,' modern. It will have some technology bells and whistles that people haven't been able to embrace before, because those are all important things to our brand."

Beat me to the punch there Nik...I can't wait to be watching the games on my iPad...watching TV is so yesterday.

You'd rather watch on a 10" tablet than a 60" HDTV? Not me. It will be convenient while traveling or not home, but when I can, I'll still be watching on the big screen.

PLEASE! Let's set the camera up behind the offense as the norm, ala NCAA football video games. I hate missing everything going on beyond the linebackers.

With the bandwidth limitations today when away from home (and away from your 60" big screen) that the big carriers impose and smart public wifi locations, the internet play is more about figuring out how it works and grabbing the international market. It will be interesting to see how quickly this accelerates (internet/mobile tv) but that day is not now.

The PacNet will definetly try to hammer down the CU-Utah rivalry down the throats of Buff and Ute fans instead of letting it come naturally.

The ski teams have a natural rivalry. I think PacNet would be very wise to televise each and every ski competition.

Everything I hear about the Pac-12 TV Network makes me happier! Nice to hear I won't have to use sites that stream games in awful quality to watch my Ducks play in basketball or any team for that matter.

This. I have no desire to watch a game on my tablet or laptop unless it is the last resort. But I also don't travel.

I still haven't seen anything about Verizon FiOS. Does anyone know if Verizon will carry the P12N?!?!?! I would switch carriers in a heartbeat to get the P12N, but the house I'm renting comes with Verizon FiOS for free.

No deal with FIOS yet. From the Mandel article linked at the first post in this thread:
"There won't be the same narrative around, is it going to be distributed or not distributed in a certain territory. It will be available to all our fans everywhere," said Scott. "Now, if you're a satellite customer, or you've got Verizon [FIOS] or AT&T [U-Verse], you'll be eagerly watching to see whether we get a distribution deal with one of those. We want to be distributed on every platform, but there won't be the same kind of tension or angst in those negotiations."

DirecTV subscribers need to keep calling DirecTV and reminding them how important the P12 network is to us.

Still got a 23" LED computer monitor. A comfy office chair plus drinks & snacks will do the trick.

You can enjoy watching the shiny bell buttons of the cheer leaders bouncing up and down.

I e-mailed DTV yesterday and told them I will be cancelling my subscription this summer and switching to Comcast if they do not carry the P12 Network.

This doesn't work.

Signed,
Texas Longhorn Fans.

Sill no Longhorn network in 98% of the state of Texas

That's because those folks don't have a credible threat. Are they really going to cancel their TV service entirely if they don't have the LHN? Anyone in the Pac12 footprint can simply switch companies and get the Pac12 if DTV doesn't step up.

"The look and feel will hopefully incorporate the personality of the campuses in addition to sports," said Stevenson. "The way NBC does the Olympics, you don't get the sense it's just about the Olympics, it's about the personalities. Part of our aspiration is that when you see Pac-12 Networks, you'll know you are there."

Please, please, please, God NO! This scares the hell out of me. I'm sorry, but I want to watch sports on my sports channel. I do not want to watch mini-biopics.

When the Olympics are going on, I normally set up a VPN tunnel to the UK so that I can watch the BBC's coverage of the games. They actually show, you know, the games. When they show a competition, they show the entire damn competition. I am going to be so very, very pissed off if the new Pac Net actually follows the NBC Olympic model.

"Today we bring you the Finals of the NCAA Women's Downhill. Ok, first down the hill is Vermont's ________."
Shows run with inane commentary. "Now we'd like to introduce you to two friends and competitors, Lady Buff ___________ and Utah's _____________." Spends 20 minutes telling us about how they each save baby bunnies from crazy pigeons in the armpit of some random poor country. "Amazing ladies, and they are good skiers too - ______________ is up next, 17 skiers completed the run since we last checked in. Here is the time _______ has to beat." Shows two runs, again with inane commentary, then cuts to something else for a while. "Welcome back to the downhill, another 32 skiers have run since _________ and ___________, including this amazing run by _______________" Shows tape delay of "amazing" run. "That run turned out to be the winner, ___________ and _____________, finished 7th and 12th respectively. Here's what the final standings looked like. Thank you for watching our coverage of the Women's Downhill."

And, you're left sort of wondering, what coverage? - YOU SHOWED 3 OUT OF 52 DAMN RUNS! **** **** **** *****

Hey Larry Scott, I know the Olympics makes a lot of money from NBC. I know this is the model NBC uses.

DO. NOT. COPY. IT.

That model sucks big giant donkey balls, and is a slap in the face to people who actually like sports.
