We're not very good on offense and have lost confidence

That was an incredibly humiliating loss - a huge does of reality. We were overmatched talent wise and Stanford was much tougher physically. And the players collectively seemed to tune-out Boyle and were soft - several simply quit playing hard which is surprising and unacceptable. I think CU's lack of talent is now really showing-up - teams like Stanford, UCLA, Arizona, Washington, Oregon etc just have recruited better players than CU has. I expect a tough end to the season.

As the coaches in the PAC 12 have game planned for CU a second time, we are beginning to fall to our talent level which is a lower level PAC 12 team. Our offense was awful against ASU, Utah and even Arizona before tonight. We have scored 57, 63, 55 and 50 points in our last four games, all second games against PAC 12 teams.

I think we have to play above our talent level to have any chance, and that is not happening. Unfortunately, I think the CU players might be beginning to realize that they are not very good. I am reluctant to say this, but I think the season could effectively be over, and we finish 0-4 and 10-8 in the PAC 12. Hopefully, I am wrong and we can turn this around, but I seriously doubt it.

Let's not go overboard here. We're not going to finish 0-4. Tad is doing an excellent job recruiting. And we're 3-4 against the teams you've mentioned being so vastly ahead of us. The gap isn't quite as bad as you think. We've obviously been overachieving this year, but tonight was about the mismatch in the post (and the fact it was simply one of those nights) more than any huge difference in talent.

who do you think we are going to beat to not go 0-4? And yes - Boyle has recruited very well for next year and hopefully beyond. But, that does not help us this year.

Tad has gotten a lot out of this bunch. On a night when both teams play their A Games, CU is around 8th or 9th in the Pac-12 (fighting with Washington State). But defense doesn't slump like offense does so Tad has us playing closer to an A Game more nights than the other teams, and that's what's put us at 10-5 with 3 to play.

It's no coincidence that we have gone into a funk at the same time our best offensive player, Carlon Brown, hit the wall and went into a slump.

Rialto - fans like you kill me. We lost our entire offense, we lost or senior leaders, and the best player in our program since chaucey. This years best player cant create his own shot, have you even been watching this year? Just because we've out kicked our coverage so to speak season to-date doesnt mean there is some new mythical ceiling with this team.

No one in their right mind had us winning 18 games this year, no pundit had us in the top half of the Pac, and Stanford is a wreck of a match up with us calm down. You should spend time with the ass hole in the bathroom next too me tonight who was ranting that we wouldnt even get 3,000 people to show up sunday because of this embarrassment.

Good points by Rialto and cville both. Truth is, the eyeball test would have had asu over us in Tempe when I sat a few rows up from the bench. The tide is starting to turn in our favor talent-wise, but right now we're relying on defense and guts and two freshmen guards.

So UBL and I aren't in our right minds?

We have no pure shooters. And if Andre Roberson shoots another ball outside of the paint again I'm going to kill a shi* load of kittens

Andre usually can shoot that shot alright but last night he looked out of sync. Seems like he's trying to impress scouts by creating his own shot, but I don't think it's doing him any good.

Almost choked on my coffee there! The idea of any of the Buffs 'trying' to impress scouts last night......<sigh>

Just a thought because Andre's been taking shots recently he hasn't before and has been unsuccessful undoing so.

Guys, relax. Isn't it possible that Stanford is just a really bad matchup for us? It happens in sports, one team just has the other's number. Although we're probably the better team on paper, and have the best rebounder on the court, Stanford mauls us on the boards and in the paint. Move along.

Yes they are a bad matchup but there is no reason for the lack of effort we saw last night, in a sold out Keg no less. No movement on offense, lazy D, lazy passing, etc. Just horrible.

Tad says it all the time, Andre is at his best when he plays within himself. Trying to create shots on his own on the wing and shooting lots of threes is not his game. I can see when he tries to do these things its when we are struggling on offense, he tries to put the team on his back offensively. That's not his game. He needs to be himself and that's best for the team. I'm not faulting him for trying to carry the team that way, its just something he needs to learn.

I think this is a good learning experience for Dre. Next year, he'll need to carry more of the load since Austin and (when-not-slumping) Carlon will be gone, and with it, their offensive production. Even with Ski and Mayor being 1 season wiser, we can't count on the incoming frosh for points all the time. I think Dre grows a bit from last night's loss.

We have plenty of talent to compete.

Our problem is that we're running a 4 guard, 1 forward/3 guards, 2 forwards line-up and basketball is just not meant to be played that way. Any team with a serviceable defense that gets back in transition is going to give our offense problems, especially without a Burks or Higgins. Since we have virtually no post offense, our half-court game looks sloppy, slow, and ineffective.

Even last year, with a group of veterans and an elite, top 10-15 pick, we were a flawed team that struggled against good defenses. @Nebraska, @Baylor, all the Kansas games, and aTm at home were all games where our limited post play left us exposed.

Villanova has been running 4 of the most talented guards you can get with mediocre post play for years and despite a final four run, they've never actually been a real threat to win a title simply because it's too complicated of an offense to work every game.

This is news to Missouri.

Missouri has an immensely talented roster and they're playing very well.

With that said, they've also been beaten down by KSU twice now and in both games, they struggled in the post. They managed to out-rebound @Baylor and they built a pretty good lead, only to have it almost all thrown away simply because they couldn't get any semblance of offense going in the final minutes of the game. Their biggest win, KU at home, came only because KU threw the game away in the closing minutes. The rest of their season is attributed to the fact that the Big 12 sucks this year and is majorly flawed through and through.

If you want to put them in the final four, more power to you. A team from a conference in a down year, that is ranked 280th in rebounding is a recipe for disaster.

What is your suggestion since 99.9% of teams either run a 3-2 or a 4-1?

Is Missouri as talented as you say they are? I was checking their recruiting and they've signed almost all 3*'s and a 5* so I think it may be more coaching than talent.

Hopefully XJ can step up and be the man next season or someone like Spencer or Askia can improve their midrange game.

I think your off base on how you think the game has to be played. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying the only way to success is having a strong post game and being affective in the half court. I won't disagree with you, that is one way to be affective. The beauty of basketball is there are lots of ways to win. Missouri this year is playing with a group of guys who were brought in by Mike Anderson, a Nolan Richardson 40 minutes of hell disciple. Arkansas won a national championship playing that way. UNLV had some of the best teams of all time running and gunning and completely ignoring your style. They also lost in a national championship game against a Duke team that played the way you are suggesting. There are PLENTY of ways to play basketball successfully.

This is ironic. You and Rialto are essentially saying the same thing (that we're an average team that has been overachieving) and yet you're criticizing what he wrote.

I see JRK's tampon is growing larger... The problem is shot creation and ball spacing. We are not good at either unless we are on the break.

We haven't exactly been lighting it up since the Oregon game so the warning sign have been there - slow slow starts and lethargic play, even ASU - we should have blown them out. Expect a much better effort for Cal game...if not then I will be much more concerned than the one Stanford loss.
