Bzdelik has lost the team... Literally.

I would question the validity of this report because those players are all underclassmen. Bzdelik was brought in to clean up the program and has purged the program of all Gaudio's problem leftovers, and now he has a very good recruiting class coming in next year.

EDIT: Sounds like it is true, and if that's the case then Bzdelik's days may indeed be numbered:

The comments section is very telling. They HATE Bzdelik. It's not just that they dislike him or that he annoys them. This is full on all consuming hatred.

Hard to believe that we got $500 grand from them to hire Bzdelik away and we ended up with Boyle. My God, how fortunate we were.

I find myself with a hint of giddiness.

Yup, been like that from Day 1 down there in Winston Salem in regards to Bzdelik.Lot of frustration with that fanbase right now (all 100 of them or so). Now with even NCSU showing signs of life, they are about to mutiny.

Certainly couldn't have worked out better for us. Of course the $$ was appealing to Bzdelik, but Wake Forest is a job I would want not a part of. The measuring stick is how well you stack up to UNC and Duke. How do you succeed, long term, in that environment?

Slow signs of progress and NIT appearances (not that the Deacs are even close to that at this point) don't cut it on Tobacco Road. In fact, even just making the Dance isn't going to cut it (see: Gaudio). It's all a little ridiculous. Wake has a nice basketball tradition, but it's hardly UNC, Duke or even NCSU...

Coach K isn't going to be around forever. UNC will always be a bitch but you can win at Wake Forest

Wake should look at the Ohio coach for their next coach.

I've been around ACC country for many years. Well aware of what Wake is capable of, but they don't sustain it. The point is, it's not appealing to a coach when you're constantly being compared to Duke and UNC as the measuring stick for success. A very nice season that ends with a loss in the Second Round or Sweet 16 loses its luster when you've got UNC right nearby winning national championships.

Wake is a solid school and has some good things to offer, but it's also a pressure cooker of a situation. Bzdelik is finding that out in the hardest way right now.

You clone Tim Duncans?

Traditionally, I don't think of Wake above Virginia or Georgia Tech in the ACC. I'd put them 6th (8th once Cuse & Pitt join).

Didn't he have, like, a top 10 recruiting class?

Gaudia's assistants were retained. Those guys kill it in recruiting. Then the kids get there, play under Bzdelik, and leave. At CU, McClain recruited most of the talent. He's now doing the same thing at Indiana to turn things around there. CSU is crazy if they're not looking at him to replace Miles.

I don't think this is very fair to Jeff. His NBA experience was a big factor in recruiting. He's a coach that has worked with some of the biggest names in basketball. Jeff isn't exactly known for being a top flight recruiter, but he did well getting talent to come to Boulder when we were considered a joke. He deserves respect for his hand in turning this program around.

I also can't really fault a coach for wanting to coach in the biggest stage in CBB. I'm sure most coaches would have the fire to compete against the very best coaches in the nation. JB is no different.

I agree. On paper, Wake's tournament stats look as good or better than UVA/GT's, but Wake's best tradition is absolutely ancient. Over the past 30 years or so, UVA and GT have unquestionably been stronger than Wake.

WF: 22 NCAA Tournament Appearances: 1 Final Four (but 1962, so pretty shaky). 4 Elite Eight (but again, much of it extremely ancient). 3 Sweet 16
UVA: 17 NCAA Tournament Appearances. 2 Final Fours. 3 Elite Eights. 2 Sweet 16's
GT: 16 Tournament Appearances: 2 Final Fours. 1 Elite Eight. 3 Sweet 16

I agree, but McClain would not be a very popular hire in FC. Too close to home being the former 'Pokes coach.
