Breakout player of the year

Looking at BBs threads about which freshmen will contribute this year got me thinking about which players already on the roster will step up and get noticed.

It seems like every year we have a couple of guys who have been on the roster but not counted on to make a big contribution that jump up and become a significant part of the team. These might be guys who have not seen the field due to injury like Jared Bell or guys who may even have played some but were behind other players who were ahead of them on the depth chart like Keenan Canty who played some but not a lot. Others may be position switches or just guys who mature and take a big step forward.

This doesn't count guys like Wood who while not playing last year was at the forfront of lots of discussion and would surprise nobody if he is the starter.

Paul Richardson.

We all saw what he can do against Cal but he couldn't get healthy. He sounds very determined this season and I've read some reports that he's been great in practice and burning Henderson. Hopefully the light came on for him and it stays lit.

Agree that he could be great for us but wouldn't classify him as a breakout player since he was all over ESPN last year after a couple of games and some have talked about him as pre-season all conference.

Talking about guys who are under the radar types not getting lots of discussion stepping up to play significant roles.

Bold. You're predicting 2010's breakout player will be 2012's breakout player.

I know he was all over ESPN after the Cal game but didn't know about the rest.

In that case, I'll go with Uzo-Diribe. I know he gets a little hype every year that he's gonna be a stud but I think this is the year where he actually breaks out. I ha a few others in mind but I'm having trouble remembering their names without looking at the roster.

The two players that come to mind for me are Jack Harris and Juda Parker. Everyone knows who they are, but their impact has been minimal. Both players are likely starters and in the case of Harris, it is probably now or never.

Parker stepping up would be a huge help to the team. Harris as well but Parkers impact could be a big difference maker.

I kinda think the opposite. It would be nice for both to step up, but Harris is more essential to overall team success. If we are still searching for a RT come October/November, chances are things on offense are not going well. We had issues once Harris went down last season.

Offense - Jeff Thomas
Defense - Derrick Webb

Honorable Mention - Sherrard Harrington, Uzo, Kasa, Alex Lewis

If Kasa can step up, it would be huge. I'm not predicting it though because I have no inside info.

I agree with BB on Harris, there was a pretty big drop off on the oline once he got hurt. P Rich has a chance to really breakout tho. He doesnt just have all-conference ability, he has all american ability, if he can put it all together. Staying healthy helps too lol.

It seems like we have more candidates than we have in a long time for this discussion. Lots have been discussed that I agree with, but I wanted to throw Woodson Greer out there as well. I think he's going to be a good one.

Parker Orms. He'll be playing his natural position finally. Half a dozen INT's and a kick return for a TD.

Norgard or Powell. I want to see some nasty from a fullback again.
Amen. When it's 4th and 2 on the 4 and you're playing Cal at home, I want the fullback getting the ball and plowing some dudes. i don't dancing. I don't want trick plays. I don't want the quarterback scrambling around, panicking, and throwing some sort of uncatchable cr@p. I want the fullback to ram 2.5 yards down their throats.
