The 6-foot-4, 306-pound Huckins has lit up the recent combines with his athleticism and explosiveness. After running a 5-1 in the 40-yard dash at the Houston Nike Combine, the University of Colorado was the first team to throw their hats into the Huckins' sweepstakes.

"When he gets on the recruiting map this spring, he will be a Major DI player," [Coach Mark] Schmid said. "He loves to work and study in the film room. He was watched our former offensive lineman Chad Lindsay's (Alabama) film for hours."

Born in England, Huckins has been in The Woodlands program since the seventh grade. He also throws the shot and discus for the track team.

Round 2 of OL offers. Round 2 looks pretty decent haha. He turns more of that weight into muscle once he is working out under a college coach and he could very well be a decent tackle. THe scary part though is that in his highlight video it looks like he could even stand to put on some weight. He is a skinny looking 300lbs

That speed/explosiveness is no joke. Great feet.

Decent shot put measurements in track as well.

This guy is a beast. Once he fixes his stance and stops telegraphing his pulls he will be a very solid lineman.

Hey thanks. Nope but just watching his film you can see him lean back in his stannce and raise his pull side arm. Love his motor and mean streak though. The stance is a fairly easy fix.

Yep. Last thing I worry about with high school OLs is technique. We'll teach that. Size, agility, "get-off", aggression through the whistle. I probably care about pad level more than recruiters do, but when someone plays high I always worry that they lack flexibility and leg strength. That can be trained to a point, but kind of like with a 40 time you have a natural baseline.

Welcome to AB Bufferman. Have you had the chance to watch Huckins play?

Yes, many times. I live in Houston and have been attending The Woodlands Highlanders' games for 7 years. Seen Huckins come up through Junior High, JV and Varsity.

The Woodlands have a strong program (1000 boys in FB this coming year!) and a winning tradition - at least during regular season. They traditionally fall short in the playoffs except last year when they went 4 games deep to lose to an excellent Dallas Skyline team. Much of their success was attributed to their OL although their defense wasn't too shabby either - they shut out their last 4 regular season opponents.

Huckins started at NT on 1st JV team until moved to start at Left OG for the 2011 season. He also set back to block on punts and blocked on the line for field goals. Some games he played both ways - goal line stands and to give regular NT a rest.

He obviously loves to play football and is known to hit the weight room & use a personal trainer above and beyond what most footballers do.

Huckins makes me think of iHop - as he serves pancakes all game long!

Thanks for the insight. I like what I saw in the vids, btw.

I think I should declare that I know the Huckins family. I would like to see Jonathan (and any young man, for that matter) find the right academic & athletic program. For that reason I will refrain as much as possible from inserting my opinion on Jonathan or his team mates. The coaches, the fans & the family can make their own assessments of each other.

I'm happy to provide factual information & perhaps point towards what others are saying.

I will say that it is great to see an open forum where it is obvious that there are Buff fans that care about football and about their program.

I think we all suspected a relationship of some kind. Keep posting, we have a great friends and family plan!

He'd be a great fit for our pro-style offense. It would be a shame to see someone with that kind of power and exposiveness end up in a sperad offense.

Thanks BB!

Learning a bit wading through the various threads .... interesting ...

:hmmm:

As I'm sure you've seen, we try to take our recruiting seriously but go more freeform and irreverent elsewhere. :smile2:

I actually think CU fans strike one of the better balances of being passionate about our athletic programs (especially football) and extremely supportive while still maintaining some objectivity and also wanting to win the right way without becoming a semi-pro football factory.

If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot me a Private Message or post it on the board. I think you'll find that we are really good about wanting all these recruiting prospects to make informed decisions and choose the place that's the best fit for them. People genuinely care. And since CU has so much to offer, it's easy to have that attitude. We always get our share and then some in these recruiting battles.

Not a problem. It is actually interesting for a lot of us here to get an idea of what is going on with the guys who are potential Buffs.

Over the years we have had a number of family members, family friends, and sometimes even the recruits come here and post. The only suggestion I would have is don't take the responses to seriously. We have a lot of good people here and like anywhere else a few jerks.

Always know that whatever you have to contribute is welcome.

These next 4 or 5 weeks will be a very interesting period, from what I understand. A LOT of college coaches out visiting High Schools, assessing recruits and prospects, during their Spring ball. We're likely to see an increase in offers and possibly commits. What do you guys think, what have you seen during this period? What do you expect specifically from your CU coaches?

:yell:

We're seeing a major wave of offers. Basically, the coaches are on the road talking to HS coaches and making contact with players they may have not fully scouted during the players' junior seasons. This period pretty much sets the recruiting board for schools. While fans won't find it out, coaches will have their recruiting board prioritized after this along the following lines:

A - Will take a commitment regardless of position needs or scholarships available
B - Will take a commitment as long as the position quota isn't filled for this class
C1 - Will take a commitment if enough A's and B's have committed elsewhere (or may ask to grayshirt if no more room)
C2 - Want to see more from senior year and may make committable offer if progress seen & still room in recruiting class
W - Walk on targets for guys who may not get D1 offers and coaches think have a lot of potential

They're also out there seeing where CU stands with various prospects. Are academics in order? Is the prospect strongly considering CU? Etc.

Finally, they're setting some long-term targets and forming relationships for the 2014 and 2015 classes.
