Peppers named National Freshman of the Year

The 2010 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) team was supposed to be in rebuilding mode, following its 2009 national championship season and subsequent graduation of Bryan Murphy, James Kittredge and numerous other key pieces on defense.

The Ironmen started the season as underdogs against Maryland power Gilman, which was driving to what looked to be a sure touchdown in the second half. But star quarterback Darius Jennings was intercepted in the end zone by freshman Jabrill Peppers, thwarting the drive and helping the Ironmen roll to a 33-6 victory.

It was the first of many big plays for Peppers, who is the 2010 MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Peppers intercepted six passes for the Ironmen, who finished 12-0 and captured the Non-Public Group IV section title.

An opposing coach called Peppers the team's best defensive back, high praise since the Ironmen also feature sure-fire Division I defensive backs Elijah Shumate and Yuri Wright in the class of 2012.

In one of Don Bosco Prep's biggest games, a playoff semifinal match-up with St. Peter's Prep, Peppers was at his best, returning a blocked field goal 85 yards for a touchdown and bringing back an interception 90 yards for a second score.

"Jabrill has the potential to be the best player at cornerback that I've ever coached," Don Bosco Prep defensive backs coach Bill Tierney said. "He's mature, physical, smart, and has football aptitude well beyond his age."

Peppers earned the award over Louisiana running back Leonard Fournette, Florida running back Sony Michel, and Kentucky quarterback Cole Ousley. He leads the U.S. Air Force 2010 Freshman All-American Team, presented by MaxPreps.

Kid is still a Freshman in high school. That puts him at about 15 years old. Lots of room to grow, get faster, better, etc. OTOH, a lot of kids peak early. I remember AAM was touted as a sure fire 5* prospect when he was a Freshman.

From another story on the transfer:
Hopefully, Peppers finds his place at Paramus Catholic. He has had a difficult childhood thus far (father in jail, brother murdered a few years back) and needs to be surrounded by high character individuals. If not, his current path to a college scholarship and potentially a NFL career (certainly projects that way if he continues to develop) could be derailed. Let’s hope he stays grounded and doesn’t let his ego get in the way of his development. I’m sure this story will not end here…just hope it ends well for Peppers!

Visiting at the Spring Game (April 9th) per Random Internet Poster at rivals with Yuri and Al-Quadine...

Is that public? Shouldn't that follow the 24-hour rule?
I've never treated info that is from random internet posters (as opposed to Adam or AZ) as something the 24-hour rule applies to. However, the 247 info is premium, and I don't think you can use the 2 site exception to get around the 24 hour rule on this one by using a RiP.* Post edited.

* I totally realize this just ends up screwing the premium site that does independently arrive at the information, but unless the real mods want to institute a stricter policy against RiP info, it is the only way to deal with this situation.

Since revised to say that he will visit for the CSU game and that Stanford is our main competition for his signature.

Given an initial 5* rating by Rivals, no position or national ranking yet though.

Stanford and Ohio State lead. Urban Liar has been telling him that Brady Hoke has multiple offers to NFL teams
