Bateman first got noticed after a stellar sophomore season. He followed up that season with strong showings on the camp circuit last summer, as well as a good junior season.

He figures to be one of the most heavily recruited QBs in the West. He is non-LDS, so he could be looking to get out of Utah.

He now has an offer from CU. Hopefully proximity can get us an unofficial visit this spring.

We haven't had a lot of good luck with Utah recruits in the past, might be time to change that.

He picked up offers from Arkansas and Auburn this week. He is a consensus 4* recruit.

Is it just me, or are we starting to be in on a lot more of the same recruits as Arkansas?

I've been noticing that ever since JE came on board. That is a good sign. Petrino is pretty well regarded as a judge of talent.

Yup I can't name another coach who gets mostly 3* players and gets those results. Pretty good program to emulate for now.

Arkansas recruits nationally, so we are bound to recruit a lot of the same players. They are quite different from most of the SEC in that they really do not recruit Florida or Georgia all that much. So they have to get the players from somewhere, especially with the small in-state talent base.

Petrino is a good evaluator of talent, but the biggest reason for his success is due in large part to hitting on blue chip offensive talent (especially at QB), along with Joe Adams. That is the next big step for us-to reel in the blue chippers on offense.

He said he's trying to stay grounded and enjoy the process.

"I don't want it to interfere with anything," said Bateman, who hopes to take some unofficial visits this summer so he can commit early. "I'm pretty level headed. As far as right now, it's fun. It hasn't gotten to that point, and I hope it doesn't, where it has gotten stressful."

Utes, Cougars, Aggies hot on trail of Cottonwood QB Cooper Bateman

Other schools have come calling as well, expressing interest. One of these schools, Stanford, is a program that Bateman has always admired.

“Stanford is definitely one of my favorite schools,” he said. “It’s obviously a lot more than about football there. They have amazing academics, and that’s what makes them so attractive to me. I’m going there to see the campus up close again here soon, so I’m really excited about that. I hope they offer.”

This has begun. 2013 class has some killer talent on offense...QB, TE, OL. We're looking good! And this talent base will be the cornerstone for the entire class and they can recruit some more talent. I'm guessing, but it can't hurt recruiting a 4* WR when the QB and TE have 4* too.

What a weird finalist list - Seattle vs. Tuscaloosa. UDub vs. Roll Tide. I can't wrap my head around the thought process of deciding between those two schools...

Sark is seen as the NFL-maker. He also played at BYU, which last I checked is in Utah.

Washington is going to get this kid. The new

Side note... Alabama hired Doug Nussmeier away from UW after the Alamo Bowl this year. Nussmeier was an integral piece in developing Jake Locker's last two years and Keith Price's development since arriving at UW. He was UW's QB coach and OC, and is now Alabama's OC. I think we'll see improvements in Alabama's offense with his hire.

Washington signed two 4* quaterbacks last class. He wont sign there. It could be Bama, but I could see a run by a lower-key school such as ASU and Washington State, that doesnt have that much talent at Quarterback, but could potentially blossom in a few years.

Glad he'll be out of the PAC. Unless he pulls a Gunner Kiel and gets scared of the SEC after watching what beasts are sacking the QB's down there!
