Started the day tied for 9th, 1 stroke back of 8th.

And we have come out hot!

Team is -6 with 1/3 of its round complete.

That has moved us into 5th place, 7 strokes lower than the 9th place Tulsa squad and 2 strokes to make up on 4th place North Carolina.

Also in the Pac-12, Stanford is tied for first, UCLA is in 3rd, Pac-12 champion Cal has fallen to 13th, and Oregon State is in 22nd.

Locally, DU is in 19th place and NoCO is in 23rd.

Other Pac-12:

Arizona State looks like they'll qualify for the NCAAs from the East Region in 8th place, but Arizona and Washington won't get through.

In the Central Region, USC is going to be the runaway winner and Oregon is in a close battle to make the top 8 and qualify for NCAAs (right now they would).

Just past halfway (each player has posted 9-11 holes) and CU is all alone in 4th place. 7 strokes out of 3rd, 3 strokes up on 5th. 10 clear of 9th place.

All CU sports have taken a turn for the good lately, with the exception of football. A couple years ago ('09?) nearly all our teams were terrible. Football, wbb, mbb, volleyball, golf, tennis etc. Wbb, mbb, golf have definitely gotten much better

Into the clubhouse in very good shape (T-4). Lowest round of the tourney with Pepperdine (also today for 2nd).

Are you at the course Nik? How are you getting your updates?

Didn't go because of crappy weather. You get updates at the link in the OP. Golfstat's web site does live tracking (team & individual) for all the college tournaments. Great site for golf fans.

We're locked into the Top 8.

UCLA & LSU in first at 873 (+9) posted.
Pepperdine in third at 875 (+11) posted.
CU in fourth at 877 (+13) posted.
Stanford & Baylor in fifth at 879 (+15) posted.
North Carolina in 7th at 880 (+16) posted.

Still on the course with a third of their rounds in the books:

Oklahoma and San Jose State tied for 8th at +27, Iowa State in a tie for 10th at +29, TCU and UNLV in a tie for 13th at +30, & several others with absolutely no shot at finishing in the top 8.

Cal and TCU are in the clubhouse at +29 hoping that's good enough for 8th place. I don't know if they'd both make NCAAs with a tie or if there's some sort of tiebreaker mechanism.

I've never followed golf much, but this is exciting. Any team that is advancing in the NCAA tournament is exciting.

How does the golf tournament work?

5 individuals per team. Lowest 4 rounds count on each of the 3 days.

We might have won this thing if our top player, Alex Stewart, hadn't been sick for the 2nd round and needed to withdraw. She was +2 total for her other two rounds, including gutting out a -1 today.

What about the ncaa finals? How many teams? tia

8 teams make it from each of the 3 Regionals (24 total).

We've been around the 10th-12th best in the nation this year and have shown the ability to go low enough to win this thing. A big advantage we have is that we're not just a couple players at the top we rely on. Generally, when you look at tournament results our highest scorer out of our 5 is usually the best #5 among all the teams in the tournament. So we've got a ton of depth and have an advantage since any of our 5 can go low during any given round and all 5 are pretty consistent.

Arizona State qualified from the East regional. Oregon missed by one shot in the Central. The biggest bust of the regionals looks like Auburn, who was ranked fourth but failed to qualify. Also #9 Georgia missed. Longest shot to advance will be #40 Stanford here in the West.

A number (I don't know exactly how many) of individuals from schools not advancing will also make the NCAA finals to compete for the individual title.

interesting that the #4 player from north carolina (o'donnell) looks like she will take medalist in the tourney and they will barely squeak by to advance in the tourney...golf in the carolinas is big business, i would expect them to be stronger year in and year out

Speaking of golf, is anyone watching the Player's Championship? Kevin Na is in second place but is having a nervous breakdown on every teebox. He just cannot get himself to pull the trigger.

If you're bored and not watching Players Championship, flip it on and check out Kevin Na. Guy is a functional train wreck. #preshotroutine

Kevin Na plays golf like most women shop for shoes. Um, no offense or anything.

Dave Tindall ‏ @DaveTindallgolf
Conscientious objectors find it easier to pull the trigger than KevinNa.

Dan Dibley ‏ @dandibley
If you're not watching this Kevin Na show from Sawgrass you're missing out. Multiple waggles, yelling at himself, yet only one back

Jason Sobel ‏ @JasonSobelGC
It's getting so bad for Kevin Na that even his waggles have waggles.

Yeah Buffs! There is scoring to be had on that course, and they went out and got it today with the pressure on. Thats how we do it at Colorado!
