One year in the PAC-12, how did it feel?

As an Aggie about to head out of the Big 12 and into the SEC I was kind of curious how CU fans felt after playing their first season in the PAC-12? I'm sure you guys are excited about the TV Network stuff, but did you miss playing your former Big 8/Big 12 opponents? Did you enjoy the PAC-12 more than the Big 12?

Also, when are you guys going to get that football program going again? Do the fans support the current coaching staff?

I don't miss any Big 12 opponents yet, but I may miss some in the future. It was exciting to have new destinations to travel too and new teams to play.

I miss playing Nebraska the day after thanksgiving. Other than that, I miss nothing about the big 12.

Has recruiting changed besides where you recruit? I assume the west coast has the greatest focus now outside of Colorado. Has recruiting improved? Stayed the same? I'm not sure if that's easy to measure, as you guys are the biggest program in the state, A&M has a couple of programs to compete against in the State of Texas, but the move has paid dividends for A&M in recruiting already, and I was wondering if CU has experienced anything similar yet?

Too early to tell, and you guys are effed. Good riddance. Poooooooor aggy.

Yeah, I gotta say after talking with an FSU alum friend of mine how happy I am that CU is in a secure position going forward as conferences continue to change dance cards.

There may be a few folks who pine for the days of roadies to stincoln, ames, stoolwater and lubbock, but damn few. There may be a lost soul here or there who misses having UT run the conference and tell us we'll like it, but damn few. There may be a couple people here or there who don't think the extra money and exposure of the Pac 12 network is really a good thing, but damn few.

Our football team was going to suck regardless of what conference we were in, so it's not like we're in a worse position in the Pac than we would have been had we stayed in the Big 12. Our basketball team is conference champions.

There may be a couple people who don't believe that moving to the Pac 12 was the best decision the school has made, but damn few.

The Pac feels right. We seem more culturally suited for that conference. Attendance at away games has skyrocketed and for the most part our interaction with other fans is far less toxic. Overall, fans of other conference teams seem less inclined to **** their kin and/or farm animals.

Finally, we're ****ing rich!

Good luck in the SEC.

Congrats to the aggies for getting out when the getting was good. Seriously.

I was one of the few who was always on the fence with the Pac 12 move when it was rumor. When it actually happened, I was thrilled.

I grew up in Oklahoma...I miss the Big 8. I hate the Big 12.

My stepdad is apparently not allowed to talk to me about the CU move to the Pac. He has made some off the cuff remarks about Nebraska and my mom shushed him. But then she isn't allowed to talk to my Seattle born husband about the OKC Thunder.

Best of luck to you guys in the SEC. Seriously.

CU will be back. No worries on that front.

Nobody misses Big XII road trips, or the redneck arrogant fans from some of the schools that had no life outside of their school athletic team.

That said I do have fond memories of the old Big 8 days. We had a league, even with the kNU fans and OU fans who thought they were something special that functioned as a group of equals in decision making. Decisions were made with the best interest of all the schools being more important that the desires of any one school or region of the league.

Then the SWC imploded due to the greed of certain members and Big 8 made the mistake of merging the remnants of the SWC in to form the Big XII. Suddenly we had Texas and it's friends constantly trying to swing the balance of power their direction. They tried to dominate league meetings, hand pick their choices for commissioners and make league rules to their favor. Soon we started seeing league championships moving to Texas, conference media coverage slanting disproportionatly to the south, and to top it all off Texas trying to force (and succeeding) the league to accept an uneven distribution of conference media money and letting them have their tier 3 media rights and in a way that in some cases takes priority over the conference contract and cost other schools money.

When the opportunity to go to the PAC presented itself again (this isn't the first time CU had the opportunity but when we were in the Big 8 we were less motivated to move) the school jumped and we are beyond happy.

We are now in a league in which each school treats the others with respect and decisions are made for the good of the whole conference. The conference is made up of schools with similar academic missions and standing. Although each school is different in this regard the balance between athletics and academics is much more appropriate than we had to deal with from the former SWC schools.

Do we miss the Big XII, not in the least. We are in a much better place for now and the future without all the drama that came from schools playing power games in our league.

not one regret about CU going to the Pac 12. the big texas/XII conference was dead. UT was successful at killing another conference because thier ego would not allow anyone else in the room to decide things. be thankful you got out as did/should mizzou and the fuskers.

i dont care who texas got to join that conference. they will kill them off too with an unlevel playing field.

CU belongs with the PAC. period. yeah, CU sucks right now. they did in the early 80's as well. went on to win 3 striaght big 8 championships at the end of the ten years that followed and played in two MNC games, winning one. so.... things can change.

we will see about the new staff. we see some good things, we see some things that are troublesome (recruiting this year). its going to take a few years for us to know for sure. player development is going to be key for this staff. if they cant get the 2 star kids to play like three star kids, the four star kids to play like 5 star kids.... there might be trouble. no way to tell. one season is not enough to judge. couple more years.... we may have our answer.

no way i miss watching CU play infront of 30k in ames, lawerence or waco. those places ****ing blow. watching those games on tv was always painful. i felt like i was the only one in the nation who cared. it was so ****ing bland.

now, its seattle, palo alto, la, ect... a bunch of great locations.

i am all in for CU in the pac 12!!! good luck in the SEC. that is a different world and ( honestly, no offense) i just dont think mizzou and aTm are the right fits for that.

also, you know that mizzou has billboards in atlanta about them comming into the SEC. why nothing from aTm?

Actually, I think aTm is a perfect fit for the SEC.

We feel great. It just doesn't compare. The Big 12 was rotten to the core and being away from the Texas schools is absolutely fantastic. I have very little to no nostalgia for our old conference rivals, aside from some classic memories. It was the re-start we needed, and we've already managed to win the conference championship in basketball. And yes, we will be back in football. It's a process, but we are determined.

Good luck in the SEC. It's going to be a different type of challenge for you guys than it is for us. While your rebellion against Texas is nice, I'm not necessarily sure the SEC will be the best route for your success on the gridiron. It's obviously debatable and remains to be seen. For us, the Pac-12 is simply the perfect "cultural" fit, and having 10,000+ fans at some away games is a lot nicer than having 500.

I likethe new league. I think the SEC will ultimately be good for aTm, but it will be tough sledding. Goodluck to the Ags, you guys were always a good opponent and a class act.

I've heard the local business people(Pearl St. specifically) are really appreciating the move too. The Pac 12 away fans that have come to town, so far, are generally spending more money and giving their stores more traffic then they ever got from the previous conference's fans. I think it speaks to the cultural fit with the other Pac 12 schools. A Nebraska or Oklahoma fan might look at Boulder as hippyville, a Cal fan or Oregon fan might think it feels like home.

aTm ran numerous commercials during SEC games down here in the SEC footprint. They've done plenty.

This is correct, we stopped running them after the national championship, we're going to run some more marketing after July 1st.

Thanks for the kind words from everyone. I would say CU made the best move out of everyone, maybe with the exception of TCU, who got lucky in all this. A&M made the second best move because while the conference they moved to is incredibly stable, and TV rich, it's also the most difficult. CU got probably the best commissioner in college football in Larry Scott, dude is a guru.

I think A&M made a heck of a move and has the financial and population resources to compete in the SEC. It will come down to leadership to see if they can fufill that potential.

Don't miss one thing about the Big XII

Colorado just seems like the perfect fit for the PAC...should have happened a long time ago
