CU MBB: Top 10 All-Time Players

Billups. Best career in the NBA and a damn good career at CU.
Burks has the potential to be there.

Chauncey Billups (best of 'em all), Jay Humphries, Donnie Boyce, Stephan Pelle, David Harrison, Jaquay Walls, Alec Burks, Corey Higgins, and when he finally departs, include Andre. I'm sure there are a few players from 70's/80's I'm forgetting.

Oh, and wasn't Whizzer White a pretty good bball player, way back when? Maybe DBT remembers seeing him play.

Jay Humphries - long NBA career
Shawn Vandiver- anchor to one of the only good Buffs squads of that era
Burks - no explanation needed
Billups - see above
Higgins - Solid, solid player
Donnie Boyce - Bright spot on otherwise bad teams
Stephan Pelle - See Cory Higgins
Roby - Amazing scorer
Harrison - underwhelming career
Walls - See Donnie Boyce
Tyron Manlove- All Name Team

edit: Forgot Roberson.

Roby deserves a shout as the all time top scorer. He´s better than Rubio, too.

Stephan Pelle - great power forward, consistently put up good scoring and rebounding numbers, and usually had a big smile on his face.

Top 10, INPO -

Billups ('cause Big Shot, that's why),
Meely,
Birdie Halderson (Lead team to Final Four in '55, AA, 2 gold medals),
Bob Doll (Key component on '42 NIT team, AA, helped CU win 3 conference titles in 4 years)
Jack Harvey (Only 2-time AA in school history)
Ken Charlton (AA, helped win 2 conference titles)
Burks (Holds records for most points in both Frosh and Soph seasons, first team all-conference)
Higgins (Tied w/Roby for most points scored in CU uniform, gets nod over Roby because also holds appearance records)
Shaun Vandiveer (on losing teams, held own against Big 8 best as 2-time Big 8 all-conference; behind only Meely in career ppg)

For the 10th, I'm having a hard time picking between Jim Davis and the flowing locks of Scott Wedman.

Overall, the Mt Rushmore of Buffs hoops is probably Halderson, Meely, Billups, and Sox Walseth. Tad is that Crazy Horse statue down the road.

Any list without Roby is questionable... people forget just how incredible a player he was simply because of the team he was surrounded with. Purely comparing Higgins to Roby, it's not even close which was a better basketball player. I love Cory, and will always respect what he did (and still does) for Colorado basketball, but Roby was a much better player than him.

I will agree Roby should be on the list, but I would take Higgins almost any day

Rumblin with a good call to remind people of Scott Wedman. Great, great player.

Roby was definitely the better pure basketball player, but Higgins holds more records; it's a pick-'em proposition for me. If you look at their stat lines, there's a lot of similarities. Cory also played better defense.

The way I look at it is that Roby was a better Batman and Cory was a better Robin. Just very different players.

agree with Pelle. one of few Ricardo guys (and i liked Ricardo mostly) who actually got better over his time. Humphries was a great player. Donnie B was a great player for us. people forget he wore an NBA uni even after the horrific knee injury.

jo jo hunter is an hon mention type. Vandiver played in a very very strong Big 8. sadly, while the rest of the league (norm stewart, billy tubbs, johnny orr, larry brown) went uptempo we were slowing it down with Tom Miller. but SV held his own against the Doug Smith's and Stacy King's of the world.

not sure i put jaquay on my list, but close for sure. same with morandais. though in a one off not sure i wouldn't take the Geo Tech transfer whose name i'm spacing out and played on the Billups team over both. matrtice moore, there we go.

billups
burks
humphries
higgins
boyce
vandiver
meely
pelle
wedman
too early but prolly roberson
roby (though i think he should have got much stronger during his time here....once he started getting abused on the perimeter his shot wasn't money the same way).

really tempted to hon mention the Levi Knudson of 2011 as well.

prolly start a put one both from one team on another thread...offseason fodder.

andy osborne on last year's team. little help inside, drain the 3.

I'm only going to include players I saw:

Chauncy is at the top of my list, followed by, in no particular order:

Humphries
Boyce
Vandiver
Matt Bullard, even if he did transfer. He had a long NBA career
Emmett Lewis
Roby
Jacque Tuz, for what he would have been had he not been injured so often and he was so cute and gave me free tickets
Larry Vaculik because my girlfriend dated him
Brent Vaughan

1. Chauncey Billups - best hoops player from the state of Colorado
2. Alec Burk - he was amazing
3. Cliff Meely - dominated his time frame
4. Jay Humphries - long NBA career
5. Richard Roby - smooth scorer
6. Donnie Boyce - same as Roby
7. David Harrison - he never met his full potential
8. Shaun Vandiver - under appreciated
9. Cory Higgins - really liked his overall game...great FT shooter and underrated defender
10. Stephane Pelle - I loved watching him play...great rebounder

Chauncey -- what else is there to say?
Cliff Meely -- Of the top five highest point totals in a game in CU history, Meely has three of them, including the record of 47.
Donnie Boyce -- I struggle with my memory in trying to compare him to Roby but I do remember watching the game on TV against Okie St in '94 when he poured in 46.
Richard Roby -- too bad he came in on the tail end of Ricardo and Buzz's first year.
Shaun Vandiver -- Averaged 22 and 11 in '89-'90 and 21 and 10 the year after.
Alec Burk
Higgins
Harrison -- Hate to bag on a college kid but I think if he'd lived up to his potential we'd be talking about him in the same breath as Chauncey.
Pelle
