Institutional control?

Reading all the posts about the lack of institutional control at Penn State, I keep thinking back to a CU situation and $8 million that the AD "lost" a few years back. Hank Brown (who is not a liberal, anti-athletics guy) finds an $8 million shortfall (what does that mean, other than $8 mill disappeared?), that was never reported to the regents (why, if there is an innocent explanation?) and calls for an investigation - citing a specific individual. That guy's bosses don't investigate and, instead, give him raises.

Anytime big money is missing from an organization or budget, all who may have had access are suspect. Are the guys who said "don't investigate" somehow involved? Does CU have so much money that $8 mill isn't a big deal? Why would anyone decide, 'don't investigate', unless they're concerned about the results.

I have 2 degrees from CU, spent 10 years on campus and love the U to death, but this is so totally wrong and these people so totally refuse to justify their inaction, that I will give no more donations to CU, until this is cleared up.

So many are outraged about the way PSU covered for it's employee. CU fans should be outraged about our situation too - altho obviously the money doesn't begin to compare to the harm the children suffered.

lol - not a 'liberal anti-athletics' guy. I didn't know they were joined

A budget shortfall is not "losing" (as in misplacing) money. What the **** are you upset about?

I'm gonna guess you didn't take a lot of business or accounting courses in those ten years...

Sorry guys. I bet it on black as per Wesley Snipes advice. I've been paying it off at $20 per month though.

WHAT?!?!? :wow:

You didn't realize that ONLY red-blooded macho conservative republican real ammurricans loved sports?

You must be a liberal anti-athletics guy then.

The situation cu2x brings up is troubling, though. CU is paying this guy handsomely even after the President called for his removal. He was retained because Phil DiStephano backed him up.

Sound familiar?

Phil needs to go. He has become far too entrenched up there

Your premise is way off base. First, there was a shortfall (NO MONEY WAS MISSING). The issue was the shortfall was not properly reported initially. Once the powers that be became aware of the shortfall, they quickly reported it to the Regents and the Press. If you go back to that point in time you will find several articles regarding the $8 Million deficit and the loan from the CU foundation to cover it.

Article

The non - reporting issue was talking about a period of time of about 3 weeks between discovery and reporting.

The real issue should be CU bumping his salary to get him a great PERA payout - discussion of that should be in the politics thread.
