I have a shameful confession about the basketball tournament this Olympics

I hope the US gets bounced early. That is right. I'm a traitor to our country for basketball. Tired of watching these guys run their mouth about how they would crush the Dream Team. It would amuse me to no end to see them get knocked out before medals.

we need to do a true roster comparison. Who would guard Jordon? Kobe? anyone from 1992 that could match up with Durant?

I don't know enough about bball to know frankly - I'm just tired of these guys running their mouth

Pippin would shut down Durant and Jordan would shut down Kobe. LeBron is the guy from 2012 that no one from 1992 could handle. But where 1992 would dominate is in the post. Charles & Malone at the 4 with Ewing and Robinson at the 5 would destroy Love, Melo, Chandler and Davis.

What makes you think pippen can shut down Durant? I know he is a better defender but Durant would destroy melo. Who is a bigger, stronger and more athletic pippen.

Melo sucks. You would have been better off leaving him out of your argument. Pippen would own him. Pip could guard Durant, though I think Durant would get his fair share.

I grew up watching the Bulls, and Pip usually guarded the other team's best player. He was on the NBA all defensive team 10 times (8 of those on the first team)!

Yep. He did many times this year during the regular season. Nice to see the big mouths from this year's team shut each other down, but where's the comparison to 1992?

Sarcasm from above aside, one simple reason that 1992 would own these ****heads. Even though they talked trash to each other during the season, they were able to come together as a TEAM during the Olympics. No way this pack of prima donnas could ever do that. Sad thing is, these asswipes will be able to play ballhog street ball and outclass everyone else out there......unless there is a Lithuania type team out there that plays great team ball and shots the lights out of the three.

Wait....is Hairlip playing for Canada?

Melo doesn't have the quicks that Pippen had. He's bigger and stronger, but it's not like he's going to run through screens and chase like Pippen could or jump passing lanes. Pippen would be able to deny. Where Pippen struggled was with guys who could take him to the block. He actually guarded point guards better than he guarded guys like Xavier McDaniel.

:D

Too funny. Absolutely agree pippen was a better defender. Just looking for someone the same size as pippen.

LeBron is the guy, then. He's got strength and size in the Melo range with Pippen's hands and speed.

The people who rave about no match for Lebron didn't spend much time watching Magic. Magic was Lebron before Lebron was born. He was to big and powerful to stop with a guard, to quick and skilled to stop with a forward, and on top of it a completely unselfish player who took more pride in making others around him better than in his own stats.

We have seen the current team struggle against teams that could shoot outside. Who on the current team would have a clue against Bird. Add to that Stockton, Drexler, Pippen, and Jordan who could all shoot from the outside. Inside who on this team handles Malone? Throw in Ewing and Robinson and 92 dominates inside and outside.

This years team has some excellent players, lock HOFers but memory is always short and people buy into the current hype. The 92 team would not only beat this years team but they would run them.

I agree with your point. One irrelevant point. Jordan wasn't a good outside shooter. Or at least not a consistent one. He shot below .250 6 times in his career. And a couple of the years he shot above .250 it was because he didn't take that many three point shots. His strength was always overpowering people down low or mid range jumpers.

Very true, but he had a nasty habit of hitting outside shots when the game was on the line. Same can be said for Magic. He came into the league as a bad outside shooter, he had never had to in college. Over time he developed it and by the time he was into his career he was a good shooter from outside, not deadly but good enough to make people pay if the played off him.

I agree with a young magic but not the 1992 version of magic.

Regarding the 1992 team, they also had Chris Mullin who was a pure outside shooter and was in his prime.

Jordan was 29 in 92 kobe is 34 - Jordan wouldn't gaurd Kobe he'd own him.

I can't make myself root aginst these guys, but I hope they win by a few points against Angola or one the other countries that the Dream Team beat by 70.

Are they really running their mouths? They are asked the questions and they answer it.

Was the Dream Team ever down 12-15 in a game in which they were a 50+ favorite?

when were they down?
the box score shows them with a significant lead at the end of 1
