According to Embree, Shane Dillon is probably going to redshirt

Still not throwing downfield because of that shoulder. Confirmed that it is a 3 man battle for QB.

Also from Adams twitter feed,

Nate Bonsu is down to 285 and 100% healthy.

Marques Mosley working at Safety not cb.

Mosley needed to be at safety. Good to hear he is making that move early.

Bonsu is a good guy, definitely one to pull for. I think he's due for some big things this year.

Bonsu fulfilling his freshman promise would be monumental.

I'll be glad if Dillon redshirts. He needed to bulk up some more anyway. And I was worried that even if he was healthy he wouldn't totally trust his arm after not being able to throw all summer.

Mosley is a safety. No idea why he was being talked about as a cornerback.

Love the news on Big Nate! Fingers crossed for a great season. Dude deserves it.

Bonsu staying healthy and contributing helps at the postition we are probably thinnest on the entire D. Scares me to death having to rely on true Fr. at DT. With Nate and Will that gives us at least two solid veteran guys there.

Hendersons development last year at corner changed a lot of things. With him and Yuri that gives us two quality young CBs. If Jared Bell can come back from his injury along with a couple of the other young guys we will finally have some depth there. Safety is a concern going into the future though an an athlete like Crowley could go a long way, especially with Polk graduating after this year and Orms unfortunately having trouble up to now staying healthy.

A Defensive line with a healthy Bonsu and Pericek at tackles, with Chidera and Juda at the ends is not bad, considering they could have the true freshmen rotate in to spell the starters.

LBs of Major, Webb and Rippy looks solid. Decent backups behind them.

Defensive backfield of Polk, Orms, Henderson and ?? (Bell, Moten, Wright, Crawley) sounds ok too. Orms needs to stay healthly, but a big upgrade from last year no doubt.

Lots of question marks, but the D could be much improved if a few things break our way.

Sounds like Terror Smith is ahead of Orms right now. That's going to be a camp battle to keep an eye on.

That is a shocker to me. Orms just makes plays. I wonder if they are doign that just to see if Orms can hold on to his health. And no way he doesn't see the field at Nickel if he loses out at safety.

Yep. Orms needs to be on the field, so long as he is healthy. He is always around the ball.

Another surprise is that currently Moten is a starter. If the light has gone on for him as well... wow, we might actually redshirt Yuri. We won't know until the pads go on though.

Not a surprise. Embree told the freshmen that they would start at the bottom of the depth chart and that they would have to earn their way up. I think he will.

Might be a strategy to reduce the wear and tear on Orms and keep him available to play nickel all season.

Smith ran with the 1s all spring and he performed. Orms has to take that job away. It won't be given.

The defense seems to be setting up nicely so far. The news about Bonsu is terrific. If he can play for more than 50% of the snaps, that will be a big pick up for the DL. The question will then become how many freshmen do we use? I am guessing Richter is a guy that will be used on special teams for FG and FG block as he has a good push. If Richter could earn his way onto the field for 100 snaps (I know this is a hope, but it would be nice if he earns it), then we may only need to burn 1 red shirt for DT? More than likely we will have to burn two, but it would be nice if only one was required. We have heard good things since late fall and all spring about CUD, but the news about Parker hasn’t been as abundant. Anyone have any insight into how Parker is doing? I assume that their back-ups are going to have to be true freshmen. Depending on how the coaches rotate the line there is a good chance we would only have 1 true freshman on the field at a time, which is a hell of a lot better scenario than what I initially thought in May.

The news regarding stiff competition in the secondary is great. After having a season where the coaches were close to pulling students out of the stands and onto the field to cover someone, it is great to hear that players are going to have to earn a spot. Having Polk, Orms, Harrington, Molten, and Smith battle out for playing time is great, along with the fact that the starts will be able to be rested every now and then while quality back-ups are on the field. Does anyone know how Bell’s rehab went? Having him back in the mix at CB with Crawley and Wright will be great for the competition to be opposite Henderson. All of this also means we will have a quality nickel and dime back. I remember using walk on WR’s last year to cover USC’s WR’s. This year has the potential to be completely different in the defensive backfield.

If Rippy is at full speed in game one then the linebacker corp will be great. Having Doug next to Major and Webb, with Daigh, Williams, and Greer as backups will create a great two deep for the linebackers.

Now all I have to do is hope brown is ready for his second year calling the D.
