Dismissed from LSU for undisclosed team rules violations.

Aka, smoking the reefer. NOOOOOOOOOO

I know it is stupid to even think about but damn he would turn us into a bowl team.

I would bet Bailer is already on the phone with him. I liked how they picked picking up Orakpo as being good chritians and giving someone a second chance. This would be right in their wheel house.

Did the NCAA ever fix the loop hole that allows players to play immediately if they're kicked off the team (e.g. Massoli playing for Ole Miss the next season after getting booted by Oregon)?

He will sit out and go Pro. I doubt you ever see him play for an NCAA team that isnt LSU.

I thought Masoli could play right away because he got a degree from Oregon.

Fun question: Who would CU's Honey Badger be? Given that LSU's Honey Badger was a turnover causing machine and good punt returner, which CU player could fit into that mold?

(I'll provide my answer later)

Worth at least one loss for LSU this season.

Almost any team in the country I would agree. Not sure that will apply with LSU.

They have recruited so much talent that I would not be surprised to see a couple of different players step up to balance his loss.

If his loss was going to have a significant impact on LSU Les Miles figures out a way to keep it quiet and keep him around. As it stands LSU has enough talent that I would guess that you could suspend the top 15-20 players on the team before the season and still have a top 25 team.

It's definitely a loss, but LSU's defense will still be a monster. There are 3 defensive linemen who could all end up going in the first round. The success of LSU this season is still what Mettenberger does. If he lives up to the hype, LSU could go undefeated , and he would go pro early. Mathieu missed some games last year for smoking synthetic marijuana, and LSU didn't miss a beat. Miles will kick any player off the team, and it doesn't matter how good or important they are. He kicked his starting QB off the team Ryan Perrilloux just before the start of the season. It left him with poor quarterback play for the next 4 seasons with Jefferson.
He can be replaced, LSU has stock piles of talent.
Rep to Miles, he did the right thing, and has a spine unlike Joe Pa, Tom Osborne, and other jelly fish.

He missed one game last year. He will be missed more than you think.

I'm not saying that he isn't an absolute standout player. Look at him from a purely football standpoint, excluding the character and off-field stuff and if he had been in the draft this year he would likely have been one of the top 3 defensive players drafted.

All I'm saying is that LSU has so much talent that they can absorb a loss like this in a way that almost no other schools can. They have DBs who are back-ups who would contend for all-conference honors at some other AQ level schools. Remember that this is a team that put #6 overall pick Morris Claiborne into this past draft as a DB along with Ron Brooks in the fourth round.

This is after a bunch of people said there was no way they would be able to make up for losing Patrick Peterson the year before who many considered to be not only the best CB in the draft but the best overall talent and who ended up drafted #5 overall. It's pretty clear that LSU doesn't lack for depth of talent with their DBs.

You can talk about how good Tyrann Mathieu is and he certainly is but he isn't a unique talent for LSU based on recent history. I don't know exactly who they have on the roster to replace him but it wouldn't be a stretch to say it's going to be somebody good and highly likely to be another NFL type talent.

No one player makes a team. He will be missed, but Miles has been in this position at LSU before.

...and that has generally led to Miles losing at least two games. For a team with national title aspirations, that is not good enough (good luck with a repeat of the 2007 season).

Of course LSU will still be very good, but you do not just absorb losing the best overall player on the team.

Our own Ray Polk would have to qualify as a Honey Badger due to his toughness due to what he played with last season.

I'm guessing he failed more then three drug tests. I read in an SI article I think that the most common punishment for failing two drug tests is your parents don't get tickets to home games? Don't have a link.

I'm not sure he was the best overall player, but certainly one of the best.

Hes a game changer type, they can replace his coverage ability. Now his forcing fumbles, returning punts is a different story. Hes kinda like Ben Kelley, not as fast, I dont think
