Wow, I can'twait to see part 2. It got a little dusty in there for a while, and pound for pound, Soupy might be the greatest Buff game breaker ever.

Soupy always struck me as a guy who was afraid of nothing and nobody. He played at absolute maximum every play, every game. He not only was a big play guy as a reciever and a returner but if I remember right a size difference never got in the way of him making a block either.

You can win some games with guys with his attitude on the field with you.

He was a bad man. Looked like a stunt double for Marty McFly, but he was a bad dude, and flat out fast.

you are not helping, nik.

i just dont get it. college football atmosphere is all about college marching bands and drum lines. why they want to go full retard country music is beyond me. and i do like some country music but what espn does is just ****ing stupid with this band. i am sure they have some fine songs and that is great. that song just sucks ****ing sweaty donkey balls. period.

cbs on the other hand, that ****ing rocks. not one college football fan in the land does not like that. it just screams college football.

Two quotes I hope they get in the 2nd part

"Folks in Colorado get ready to call for reservations to Miami" -play by play guy

"Hagan was sensational, Hagan should win the Heisman trophy!" -Coach Mac after the Nebraska game

I forgot what flat out speed looked like in black and gold. Hope we can get back to that soon.

That Nebraska game was my first ever Buff game. I was a Junior in High School, sat in the student section, helped tear down the goal posts, and hooked up with a college chick that night. Still one of the best days in my life.

That kind of day is hard to beat.

We completely boat raced just about everyone on the schedule. I enjoyed it very much with a chilled glass of kool-aid, my 10th of the day.

What happened during the title game? Was ND that good or did we have a bad day or a combo of both?

Boy...I didn't realize that it has been a long time ago but as a ten year old kid, I remember that Norte Dame basically kept us out of the endzone quite a few times and I think a fake FG went awry at that time. It's a game CU should have won no doubt about it.

lots of missed oppertunities in the fist half for the buffs. they were 1st and goal i think 3 times and came away with 3 points if memory serves. one was a fake FG where the pass fell incomplete. the story on that is that the starting FB (hemmingway, i think) was suspended for the game and the sub ran the wrong route on the play. story is that hemmingway put his fist through the wall after watching that play he was so mad at himself.

ND was a very good team though.

We choked. EB dropped the ball on a break away that would have been a TD. Our FG kicker missed a gimmie. We blew a fake FG. On and on... We were a way better team and we just flat out choked.

Seeing that tiny white cinder block locker room brings back alot of memories. The weight training consisted of one barbell back in those days. It's all a tribute to Coach Mac - he had jack $#!T for facilities.

Notre Dame was coming off a national title the previous season and they were loaded. We are talking like talent like todays USC, LSU or Alabama.

Anyway, as most said, we blew a bunch of opportnities early in the game. EB fumbled on a breakaway (similar to JJ's fumbled breakaway in '88 against the Fuskers), EB did look to cross the plane on a dive over the endzone, but the refs said no, we missed on a fake FG, we missed a FG. We had a decent chance to be up by several scores going into half. Notre Dame took control in the second half. Hagan scored out only TD late in the game on a long run, but the XP hit the upright. Nothing went right for us. That was not our most talented team, but probably our best team ever.

We had almost 200 yards of offense in the first half, should have had probably 13-20 points, but went into halftime 0-0, got out-physicaled in the 2nd half.

Fake field goal:

Everybody should look at the play at 17:00 in this video real carefully and appreciate the pure skill and athleticism of Hagan. This was a key play in the game that set up a long FG. It was just before halftime and 3rd and long with the game tied at 14. The play before, Hagan had been sacked out of FG range by Kenny Walker. It appeared Hagan was going to be sacked again, but he magically broke through and got us into range where we kicked a long FG to go up 17-14 at the half. Very similar tackle breaking to Tommiie Fraziers famous run in the '96 Fiesta Bowl.
