Is Jordan Webb in the lead now?

Lots of folks in the media and on the boards are reading between the lines and dropping hints that Webb is in the lead now. Game experience. Experience dealing with the media/pressures of being QB1. Finding a way to make plays and keep an offense moving.

The conventional wisdom and buzz around the program is that Webb will be our starting QB when the season opens.

I think it's gonna be Wood. He was mentioned by other team members as a leader and is physically more what EB and JE are looking for. I think Webb would be a great backup.

I like the idea of Webb who is able to move around in the pocket and take off if necessary due to a young group of RBs, FBs, WRs, and TEs.

If true does this mean Wood (has been in CU's 'system' much, much longer than Webb) is becoming
a major disappointment or is Webb a major surprise?

Webb was a big time recruit signed by a big time developer of quarterback talent with 2 years of starting experience.

With three guys so close, why not take the green jerseys off and make them live for a scrimmage? How does each guy handle the pressure when they aren't protected? I would think that would create some separation.

The risk of injuring your possible starter in a meaningless scrimmage is not going to happen. They will use the first two games as live scrimmages if they have to

If Webb gets the starting job it is the equivalent of Cody 3.0 in my mind. Just another QB that has some experience and average ability.

Wood was the hopeful because of his ability, but obviously lacks the football IQ.

Hirschman just didn't impress last year. Maybe he'll be alright, but I'm not feeling it...

Hard to get excited with this crew

This team is so young at nearly every position that if it is close, it makes sense to go with the "vet" Webb. More experience at the other offensive skill positions would allow us to start Wood and allow him to learn on the job with a little protection. As it is, starting Webb early will allow him to assimilate with the team and iron out the kinks before we hit he conference schedule.

Webb was a very good QB coming out of high school and was recruited by the fat ass who knows QBs to follow Reesing who won the Orange Bowl at freaking KU. He's not a slouch at all. Cody did lead us to a bowl his freshman year so it wouldn't be all that bad. Webb just had zero OL at KU and Turner Gill was a horrendous coach.

I saw the players favorite comment, and while that could equal the coaches favorite (but not for the same reasons IMO), I'm skeptical.

I don't understand the sentiment saying that Wood has more ability/talent than Webb and Webb is there only because of his experience......I'm thinking people are making such statements since Wood was rated a 4* QB but honestly that doesn't mean **** by his RS Sophomore year

The QB with the most experience has an advantage....but the QB with the most talent will win the job and there has been nothing directly proven on the field by anyone that says Webb doesn't have the advantage in both those categories before camp even began

I see and understand the risk, but it seems like there would be reward in that also.

I am OK with them using two QBs in the first two games if it truly that close of a race. I would rather see them name a starter at least a week before the CSU game to get the offence off to a fast start. We will go 2-0. But if we don't get the offence going early, and those games are closer than they should be, we might be in trouble for the rest of the season.

I have always wanted Hirshman Wood Webb or Dillon to be the starting quarterback

As I said before. I think Webb is the safe pick to start against CSU. If Wood can show the poise and accuracy in the upcoming scrimmages that the coaches want from him, he'll get the job.

I'd bet on a 1st game depth chart of 1. Webb 2. Wood 3. Hirschman. I think Wood will see game time at some point, which will be the best evaluation of his talent.

Recent statements by JE have me thinking it's a 2 horse race between Wood and Webb.

Paraphrasing Embree, but he said Hirsch was well liked by his teammates, but he forces balls into coverage and he needs to understand the offense better. The "understanding the offense" is an odd comment considering he started one game last year and has been in the system for a while.

Webb seemed to get the most favorable comments...finds ways to make plays, reminds me of Koy Detmer. Koy was a damn good college QB that lasted a decade in the NFL. This is pretty high praise from Embree.

If I were betting, I'd lay my money on Webb to start game 1. This isn't all bad. We know Webb will stand up under pressure (Hirsch really folded in live game action versus ASU. Difficult circumstances, but it reminded me of James Cox going fetal in a game a half decade ago). We simply don't know what Wood will do in a live game yet.

I could also see the coaches liking Wood's upside and rotating QBs in game 1 (with Webb). After a couple of series each, a clear starter may emerge.

What the ***k do I/we know, but like many others I have been not so quietly hoping Wood would emerge. Not just b/c of how many stars he had but because he has all the raw tools as evidenced by the offers he had coming out of HS.

Webb was not as highly rated coming out AND played for Kansas AND his stats are OK but not inspiring. Maybe in our system with our coaches and our growing talent base Webb can lead us to a bowl. But I want to believe that Wood has more upside potential and could guide our team for the next few years while we groom Dillon and then Sefo.

This sounds about right. Webb is the safe guy to put behind center, Wood was supposed to put us in a position to become solid, but all the comments and actions by the coaches (pursuing and bringing in Webb) means he just hasn't put it together. No one wants to have to wait another season, but I think we'll at least wait until then for Dillon to show us how the future of the Buffs will be looking

P.S. I feel that every day goes by while we have 3 rotating in with 1st team is reducing our chances of early victories, even if Webb with more gametime experience is chosen in the end. I say this because:

1.) Hirsch did not look great at all last year when he did play and if he is going to take the reins (I don't think so), than he needs all the snaps he can get w/ first team especially given what Embree said about him being slow to pick up the offense

2.) Wood has never been #1 QB at the college level except for spring drills when he didn't have some of the FR skill players that will end up playing this year. He definitely needs the snaps and needs to develop his leadership abilities

3.) Webb has tons more experience than the rest, BUT none in our offense with our players. He clearly needs the reps and to build cohesion with his teammates.

The coaches do not want to make a decision, they want a player to emerge to claim the position. Webb, Hirschman and Wood have all had multiple years in college programs so while Wood and Hirschman lack game experience they are not like they are true Frosh. If it is close with no real clear winner they will most likely go with Webb because of his experience. Someone has about two weeks separate themselves. Right now the competition is too close to call.

if dillon is not the starter, i'll be shrocked, i tell ya. completely shrocked. he's not out of the wood yet, however. 2 a days are painful, however. it hirshman. so, you never know.

It is a tangled Webb that Coach Embrrito is weaving, and who knows, maybe the Buffs will finally rise from being Dorman
fify. Good try, Good effort.
