Why are you a CU fan...

I post this every year and always like to read the answers from new members. If you aren't a CU alum, why is it that you bleed black and gold?

Man - every morning I look in the mirror and ask that exact same question "why are you a BUFF fan"? I still really can not figure it out, maybe someday...
Really - mom worked for a Dr. that had graduated and played fullback at CU back in the 70's... Every time I went to his office growing up, there were pictures of CU and I thought it was a beautiful place.... I moved to COLORADO when the BUFFS were always on and kicking @$$ back then(90's)... bought season tickets and the rest is history! this last decade I have really been questioning my allegiance???

GO BUFFS - I bleed BLACK and GOLD!!!

Went to school there ('92-'96). The Buffs were awesome. Maybe it's delusions of grandeur that they'll be that good again. Maybe it's because the amount of money I paid forces my allegiance. Either way - GO BUFFS!
 
Ive got a ton of reasons, the biggest for me is the attitude we used to have. Hopefully we are on our way back to that. Anybody, anyplace, anytime is what I mean. Gotta understand tho, I grew up with watching us fight the U before the game, different era of football. This **** has been painful the last several years.
 
Went to school 86-90...national champs, Aunese drama etc. I got used to Colorado being in the national spotlight. The lost decade has been difficult...here's hoping Embree can turn it around.
 
For me, is is a couple factors. First, my high school WHO was Barry Helton, he dated my sister verify, tiny school, so we all paid attention to him going to Colorado. then watching him in bowl games and on the Bob Hope Christmas special as Bob announced the...was it All-American team, or the Playboy team? Anyway, that was the start. Second, my father in law was a season ticket holder for thirty years and a big fan, so when we came back to visit he would take me to games. Third, being in the bay area in the USAF, CU was good and on tv a lot, and it was a way to stay connected to Colorado......my home. Now my wife has two older siblings....one went to UNC, and one to CSU. yet after we moved back, because of my fandom, my wife went to CU to finish her degree and made me and her Dad very proud. So that is it....how it came about, and was nurtured into the sickness I enjoy today. So speaking if, I need one ticket and directions to the game for Saturday. Who wants to be blessed with my presence for the game?

My father took me to a game when I was ten and saw the comeback win over KU with G.W. at controls and have been a fan since.
 
Undergrad 85-89 and grad school 89-90. Progress from Freedom Bowl to National Champion and the excitement that surrounded the campus during this time. Some of the best road trips I have ever been on. Bleed Black and Gold.
 
I'm not an Alum. I grew up in Colorado and was a fan from the time I knew what football was. My first CU game was when I was 13 in 1999 against the Fuskers. We actually lost in OT that year because our stupid kicker shanked a 25 yard FG to win.

I learned two things that day. I hated the Huskers with passion and it scared the **** out of me to be seated on the edge of the student section.

Wasnt that Aldrich or whatever? I remember that game, we were losing by quite a bit if I remember right.
 
Grandpa went to CU from '54-'57. Dad went here from '76-'80. I was raised going to CU games and bleeding BnG, in fact my earliest memory is at a CU game.
 
Mother went to West Texas A&M when I was a little boy then I moved to Colorado after that. Both schools have the Buffaloes nickname and both run live mascots: Dolly and Ralphie. My father took me to CU home games in 1990. Rest is history!
 
because i have flashes of self-loathing and doubt, intermingled with an occasional belief that i am a master of the universe. CU football is perfect for me.

oh, and i grew in colorado and attended CU, so that helped too.

2 Older sisters - Alums
Wife - Alum
Oldest Daughter - Alum
Youngest Daughter - one more semester to graduate
 
3rd generation Buff. Though we grew up in Iowa, we had season tickets at Iowa state so we could see CU every two years. Things will seem so much sweeter when we start kicking ass again. I think this year sets the tone for a very good decade of Buff football.

I became a huge Montana grizzly fan when I moved out there and I'm sure a lot of the newer fans have the same reason. If you love college football, who else are you going to root for if you live in Colorado, CSEWE? Not a chance. It's the Buffs, maybe AFA or nobody.
 
Went to CU 1974 - 1977 during the Bill Malory era. His best year's were 75 and 76. He had an abrasive personality, and didn't get along with the administration. In fact, they couldn't stand him. So they did the SMART thing, brought in Chuck Fairbanks.
 
Not alum. Born in CO. Still remember National Championship game when I was 9 or 10 and nearly crying when Rocket returned the the punt. I'm a huge Colorado (as a state) homer, and CU is by far my favorite team. It was a tough 8 years (BS and Masters) in Oklahoma making excuses for why CU was so bad. That being said, I'm an eternal optimist and know there are better days ahead.
 
Because I'm an alum and love CU with every fiber of my being. Everything about the school and town brings back the best memories. CU til I die mutha ****er.
 
Alumn - '06

College football was essentially nonexistent in my life until stepping on campus....rarely watched a game until the epic 2001 run when I was applying for schools, but after experiencing it as a student and having so much love for the University that gave so much to me have been obsessive fanatical since!
 
Alum 2002. Wife is also a Buff and BHS grad.

I grew up in NorCal and fell in love with the campus on a visit in HS. My favorite Buff moment was storming the field with the rest of the student body after 62-36 in 2001. Just moved back to CO after spending the past 10 years in CA.
 
Grew up a fanatical college football (and basketball) fan. Always pulled for the Buffs whenever I could catch them on TV. My dad made it very clear to me early on that CU was the "good" and Nebraska the "evil" in that series.

Then it came time to make a college decision. Checked out 8 schools. CU was the last visit. Boom.
