Overall: 7-5

I get the same feeling that I had about the '87 team (also coincidentally a 7 win team): Well over half the roster made up of underclassmen, which I believe (actually hope) that several are talented young players. The difference between '87 and 2012 is that team had many more seniors and a handful of juniors.

1987 2012
---------------------------------
Frosh 46 45
Soph 27 29
Junior 10 21
Senior 29 8

For '87, the info guide lists 4 frosh and 4 sophs as usual starters on offense, and 1 frosh and 2 sophs as usual starters on defense. I think that similar to '87, we (finally) are going to run the ball well, but will struggle in the passing game, at least for the 1st half of the season.

This team will be noticeably bigger, physical, and mentally tough and will be able to run the ball well. I think EB proves his worth as a OC and Brown shows a very noticeable difference in the quality of his defense with a healthy secondary and depth.

If embree gets seven wins out of this squad, he should be coach of the year.
I thought my prediction of five wins was a bit optimistic.

5 wins. gotta be 3-1 in the first 4 to have a shot at bowl eligible, imo.

hurts because i'm not just a give the Buffs the benefit of the doubt kind of guy at Folsom anymore.

i think there are 3 sure losses on the schedule back to back to back. the last two at home might be a plus.

I have been as pessimistic this offseason as I think I have ever been in my 33 years as a Buff fan. I admit, I have gotten more fired up the last few weeks, and think we have a decent chance for 6 wins, but it's gonna be tough. To do so, staying healthy is probably the biggest key. I think we have a good upset this year (Stanford) and lose a game we shouldn't (Fresno). Lets all remember a few things: Our schedule bodes a lot better this year, more than half our opponents had losing seasons last year, 6 or our first 7 oppnonents are breaking in new coaches, we actually have a bye this year and we don't face a brutal OOC schedule. Also we have a QB who has experience, something we didn't think we would see this year.

CSU: W 52-10 (We are due to make no doubt as to who the best team is)
Sac St: W 43-14 (2-0 after two blowout wins, buff nation getting pumped!)
@Fresno: L 31-34 (Should win, but we don't)
@Wazzou: L 17-28 (Wazzu will be better, could go either way)
UCLA: L 28-31 (One of my toughest to predict)
ASU: W 42-24 (ASU is bad, it's a Thu night blackout, we roll em good)
@USC: L 10-31 (Like last year, a surprisingly close game until the 4th)
@Oregon: L 7-49 (We actually score a TD this time!)
Stanford: W 32-28 (Upset special, Stanford lost a lot)
@Arizona: W 38-35 (Rich Rod is terrible his first year)
Washington: L 35-28 (heartbreaking loss as Huskies get game winning TD with 1 minute left)
Utah: W 21-17 (We have only lost two times the last 25 years in the home finale when not playing Nebraska)

6-6

I thought so too, but we don't face all that tough of a schedule, especially the first half. I think my prediction of 6 is opptimistic, but I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow squeek 6 or 7. Hell, it's a possiblity we could start 6-0, I don't think we will, but the first 6 are all winnable.

That's right - it's feasible that we could overachieve this year and get to 9 wins. Meanwhile, back in the real world, I'm expecting 5 or 6 wins; 7 would be a hell of an accomplishment for these players/coaches.

I disagree on the coordinators. Brown pulled off a miracle with the DBs he had to use...most of the time he had to three scrub WRs playing for him.....and there was a huge dropoff from PRich and Clemons anyway. And EB had better games as the season went on. Low talent, new scheme, new conference foes, a team beat down and having no faith after Hawk.....really? That is what you want to make a snap judgement on? Just like us judging the WR coaches recruiting.....until we get a top QB in here and prove we can throw, we won't get a top WR. A bowl game, good yards by Webb and a good running game, good play by the D.....and recruiting will jump.

And can I just say "**** you Hawkins" for not only beating down the confidence of the team, but beating down the confidence of the fans do much that we cannot even enjoy the possibilities if having a decent season. Personally I think we win seven this year, and with a possible upset, maybe eight. Bowl game.....so possible eight or nine wins for the season.

Wins....CSU, Sac. St., Fresno, Wazzou, Utah, I think we split UCLA/Stanford, and split ASU/AU. Although we can certainly lose the first two split games, and win both of the last two split games. Winning at Fresno is key IMO. Win on the road again, and much more confidence at Wazzou. Plus payback for last year. Go 4-0, and only UO and USC seem complete no-hopers.
