At 1-11 or even 2-10, is this staff definitely back for a third year?????

I would think the answer could be no. So far this hire is a disaster - and looks like it could be close rerun of the Turner Gill era at Kansas. Gill was fired at KU after two years of futility, with records of 3-9 and 2-10. This staff at CU is trending in the same direction.

If Bohn strongly feels that this staff has no chance of turning it around in the future, why suffer through another year of misery just to get to the same endpoint anyway? A terrible year in 2012 probably would kill recruiting and impede any plans to raise real $$ for facility upgrades and ticket sales will obviously decline. Also, I think assistant coaches will start jumping ship at the end of another terrible year.

The buyout for Embree is only $500,000 if he is gone at the end of 2012, and Bienemy is due $250,000. $750,000 is chump change given the new PAC 12 TV deal. Also, I think Bohn's job is not on the line - he is exactly what the CU Admin wants, so I think he will get a third chance to hire a coach. Finally, I am not sure Bohn was ever on board with the hiring of this staff in the first place, but the pressure to hire Embree was just too great.

Thoughts?

why do say that? Even though I strongly disagree, I am quite certain that Benson and DiStefano think Bohn is doing a good job.

3 years minimum. Seriously doubt a 1-11 or 2-10 season gets him fired and his contract bought out. Think that there's going to be some hesitation
for an early dismissal because of Embree's/EB's strong CU ties.

Is it true that after the 3rd year there's no buyout ??
Even though $750,000 may be chump change it's not for a school with so much it wants to do money wise.
Three years is a minimum for sure.

I don't know why anyone would want to allow Bohn a THIRD chance to screw up a coaching hire. (I do have to give him credit for hiring Boyle)

But if rumors are true that Bohn wasn't the one who made the choice to hire Embree in the first place, perhaps the third time will be the charm.

One other point - CU only saves $250,000 by waiting to fire Embree and crew after the third season, 2013. That's D-2 dollar amounts. Seriously, why wait if there are no signs of progress?

Lose to Sacramento St and go 0-12? This staff would have to be gone. I think the same would likely be true at 1-11.

Benson and distuffanufagous and bohnhead will all need to fired all retired before CU will field another good BS team. Next time they call me asking for donations I will express that I want to see a bowl-winning team before they get another dime.

If they went 1-11, there would probably be some amount of pressure to fire Embree. Personally, I think it would get him fired, but that's not a good thing for the program. You would see more players leave to go elsewhere with different coaches, and good recruits that were considering CU will have second thoughts and probably commit elsewhere. If Embree doesn't work out, we're looking at five plus years of being back to being relevant probably, unless we get a big time hire. You don't want to be a program that's firing coaches every 2-3 years.

It wouldn't likely get Bohn fired though, as he's had some success in other avenues. Namely the basketball programs's success.

So Kansas has higher expectations than CU (the #28 program all time). AWESOME!

Man, can you imagine if CU didn't pull off the upset in Utah last year. We weren't even competitive in most games last year. Yikes.

Good point - without the Utah win last year, this staff would have accomplished literally nothing so far on the field during their tenure.

I think most are afraid to admit Utah lost that game, much more than CU won the game.

Bruce, Dr. Phil and Costco Bohn aren't about to fire anybody. If the buyout were a nickel they'd hang on to the bitter end.

Just like to point out that we should have beat Cal at home last year. WSU too if I recall correctly. Utah, was the same type of game, the ball just bounced our way in that one.

Bohn firing Embree is just like Bohn stepping down. Has an AD at a big school ever hired 3 coaches in college football before? Usually, you get 1 and that is it.

Not sure, but the UCLA AD may have three hires in football.

Edit: true...Dorrell, Neu, and Mora.

I have a hard time believing any coach only gets 2 years. 0% chance, especially with him being a former Buff
