Swung by King Soopers after ducking out of work early and walked by the magazine rack only to see this staring at me. Not the best mag, but it's SOMETHING at least. Buff relevant info:

* Pick CU to finish 7th in the Pac-12 and miss the dance. They do say that if the frosh "come together", the team should dance. So there we go.

* They (rightfully) love Dre. 4th best PF in the nation, first team All-Pac-12, best rebounder in conference and best defender in the conference.

* Not much love for anyone else. No Mayor, no Ski, none of the frosh are on any of the 3 All-Pac teams. Nor is anyone listed in the top 25 at their position other than Dre.

* They have five Pac-12 teams in the dance. They have UCLA getting the auto-bid. Arizona, Cal, Stanford and Washington are all at-large bids. They have the Pac as the 7th best conference in the nation behind the Big 10, Big East, ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Mountain West.

* Said we had the 20th best recruiting class in the nation. They have XJ as the #49 recruit in 2012 and Jelly Scott as the #63 recruit.

* Have Dom Collier as the #37 recruit in 2014 and Josh Perkins as #43. Didn't see Jaron Hopkins in the top 100 for 2013.

I think that 7th is worst case scenario, even if the freshman don't gel and perform like we hope there is simply too much talent to be much worse than that.

Who were the 3 PF's rated ahead of Dre?

I haven't looked closely at their roster for this season, so someone please enlighten me on Cal and why they're being picked for the Dance.

Last season, it was a senior-dominated team that went about 6 or 7 deep. They were supposed to run away with the Pac-12. They didn't. They limped into the NCAAs and exited early. I don't remember any big time recruits in their 2012 class.

Yet the preseason "experts" seem to have Cal being as good or better than last season. Why? I don't get it.

I would definitely be surprised if you guys finished at 7 in the PAC-12l. I'm having a hard time taking this magazine seriously when they have an ASU player on the cover. I don't get it . If you don't mind me asking, how did they rank our class?

I think 7th is a possibility. But I also think top 3 is a possibility. Just too many question marks.
Gotta wonder if UCLA falls flat on its face again.

I don't get the Cal love at all. You lose Gutierrez and Kamp so you are hoping that Crabbe and Cobbs can carry you. While they are both solid players, I am not sure if there is enough other talent on this team to make much of an impact. They signed 2 three start guys, one being Kaileb Rodriguez from Thunder Ridge. I don't see the frosh coming in and making a big impact.

1.) CJ Leslie, NC State
2.) James McAdoo, UNC
3.) Deshaun Thomas, Ohio State

3rd. UCLA at 1, Kentucky 2.

I agree 100%. CAL probably got the nod because of Montgomery. Thanks Goose.

We're not finishing 7th. Try again, Lindy's.

Count me as being highly skeptical of Cal, as well.

Cal has a good trio of guards in Wallace, Crabbe and Cobbs. Don't think they're going to get much offensive firepower anywhere else though, and probably will get destroyed inside by Stanford, Arizona, UCLA. Lack of depth might hurt them, but reinforcements will be coming and soon for them.

Washington has even less depth then Cal imo, and it's hard for me to see how their starting 5 is better then CU's. Let alone the bench. Seems to be a pick based on reputation more then anything.

But I'd rather CU didn't get much attention in the media. Hope we're picked 10th or 11th again, so Boyle can use it as bulletin board material all year long.

Personally, with the talent that we have--would be disappointed with anything less then a 4th place showing in the conference.

Lunardi was calling them the best team in the Pac 12 right before the NCAA tourney last year. They didn't win the regular season or tourney. How does that make them the best team? It made no sense.

I knew NC State was gonna get some love this year with Leslie coming back, but ranked 4th nationally?? :wow:

Yeah, can't say I buy that, personally. They certainly could do big things this year, but NCSU has brought in top talent in the past and been primed for big things only to **** it up. In fact, they have quite a penchant for doing that.

I definitely think NC State is ranked too high but from everything I've heard Rodney Purvis is a baller. I'd say they are closer to top 15 but if Purvis is as good as advertised and Lorenzo Brown is fully recovered from knee surgery they could be tough. It's a down year in hoops and really any team could pull it off.
Personally I can't stand NC State since their coaching search and Miller was the top target. They are a very delusional fan base.

I know I am biased, but Colorado will be much better than 7th. The longer Tad has to get entrenched, the more entrenched CU is going to be at the top of the conference. With the team getting the summer warmup in Europe, I think they will be ready to go come season's start. I cannot ever remember being this excited for some Buff basketball.

Damn I can't wait to watch this team come together. Buff Football has become the Rockies for me. They provide sub-par entertainment while I wait to watch a real product.

Sad but true.
