Webb confirmed starter again

Jesus, the news just keeps getting worse.... WTF apparently Woods must not be able to complete a 5-step drop without tripping over himself and I won't even speculate on Hirschman....

Good Lord.

I just posted this in a JE thread:

At QB, I can't fathom Wood not getting the start this week--I see no way they could keep Webb in as the starter. We're on the road, Fresno is tough at home, but we gotta see what kind of moxie Wood has. If Webb gets the start again, it will smell of the same stubbornness D2 showed in 2009 by keeping Cody in as the starter. I would hope (and pray) that Wood in at QB would give that position the same type of spark starting Powell gave the RB position.

At RB, I agree with the other thread that Josh Ford deserves a shot.

But really the QB position is where anything positive has to begin. Both CSU and Sac State showed no fear or respect for Webb, came at him fearlessly, and we could not make them pay. Burn them when they blitz a few times, force them to somehow respect the pass, THEN maybe the run game can keep progressing.

I get guys having to demonstrate ability and understanding in practice, but isn't the actual game the real determining factor????

I play a lot of golf and I've seen countless players who shoot 6 under on the range...but put them in competition on the course, and they smother hook drives, chunk irons, skull chip shots, and four putt--ie. they get blitzed and can't handle the situation.

I've seen other players who just can't practice well-- but put them on the course where they are comfortable, and all of a sudden, it comes alive for them.

watch the attacks on players. keep it level-headed or the ban stick is coming out. and those of you who need this reminder know who you are ...

sigh. this is not good. The coach's confidence on the offensive side of the ball is completely shot.

Hoping that Webb turns it around and Wood makes the most of his opportunity.

This year's team cannot overcome poor QB play.

I don't think this is actually bad news Embree is saying Wood will come in on the 3rd/4th series regardless of how well Webb is playing (i.e. even if Webb and Powell lead to a few scores they will still get Wood some reps.)

I actually think that is a good strategy with Wood. Sounds like he gets too tense and grips the ball too tight etc. some times. Maybe not having the pressure to start and immediately play well in order to keep Webb off the field is a good way to ease him in.

Gotta wonder what Wood looks like in practice that this is happening. Considering we added Webb even after Wood have months step up, we immediately name Webb the start after what two weeks? But if we are headed 0-12 no reason to bother wondering what a player looks like in practice. It is time for guys to get opportunities.

Only rationalization is that he doesn't want to start Wood in a doomed away game and ruin his confidence. May as well start Webb and if he kicks ass, great, but most likely when he struggles, give Wood a chance. (Like I tell hot lesbians)

Who cares how Wood looks in practice at this point? We've seen what Webb looks like in games and it aint gonna result in any Ws for us.

These coaches are either stupid or stubborn. Hoping it's the latter.

Gotta work on our no huddle offense some more. This thing is ready to pop.

Looks like both at this point.

The definition of Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I understand it. 1st time starter on the road is a recipe for disaster. Wood will probably get some reps, a few more each week. If he gets the hang of it, he might start at fUCLA.

I pretty much agree, although I'm not sure why you've got Webb working your lesbians.

Solid point. It underscores the problem of no backups getting reps during the first two games.

I'm sure what you're saying has merit, but I mean c'mon. Wood's a big boy and expectations couldn't possibly be any lower. Now is as good a time as any for him to play some college football. What's the worst that can happen? We lose to Fresno State? If he throws 5 ints and can't handle the big time pressure of Fresno Stadium then he probably isn't going to ever be a worthwhile D1 QB anyway.

I was thinking about the Tebow comparison at the game when he came in for the one play. You know, the 26 yard gain on the check down cause of the blitz...
