Tuesday Noon Press Conference Debuts Pac-12 Digital

-looked at Sac State and saw some things we can continue to improve upon
-keep grinding and fighting
-details - how we can fix it
-we'll see what happens
-there were 8 plays where, if we make the play [we win]
-we need to understand that the other team is going to come back and fight
-we have to be better when the momentum swings
-i think we've gotten better week to week
-Powell left some yards out there... we'll go with him again this week
-Wood will get some reps this week and will get in the game
-Henington and Tupou will get in the game more
-Brady Daigh and Kyle Washington will be more involved
-couple of plays here and there away from winning both games
-program is significantly better than last year... kids expect to win.. you can tell after a loss; accountability, off the field, looking after each other... it's a matter of time before it clicks... you need to have success to build confidence
-on the coaches' meeting... i wanted them to understand that i believe in them, that they're good coaches... it comes down to players making plays, i.e. gerald thomas' screen pass wasn't drawn up that way... we have to tweak personnel groups...we're always going to try and fix things, you have to try and forget about what happened, win or lose or draw, and get better
-(brought in some former players) we refuse to not believe... players may be getting alot of flack around campus... it's how it goes... same people calling for your heads will be tearing down the goalposts after a big win
-(took down twitter) because of inappropriate stuff... i'll find other ways to communicate with kids
-you only have a handful of people who believe in you.. you can't worry about it
-i want them to have same success that i did... i tell players, "people are going to have successes off of the back of your struggles" like bienemey and others did off of my struggles
-we're still not there.. i want it to be like 2001 with 98G... we're starting to get that mentality... we're getting off to better starts... we're getting better in special teams... we're better at stopping the tradional run, we're not there in stopping the zone read or trick plays (assignment football)... we have made strides
-Tad shared with me struggles he had in his different stops... People are telling me that we're doing it the right way, to keep pushing, keep grinding

Thanks BuffNut. Must spread rep.

Same kind of stuff we heard from D2. A few plays away from a win, left some yards on the field, personnel group changes. I hope this staff is actually able to correct the problems. I am expecting this team to come out much improved against Fresno. We are massive underdogs from here on out. No reason to be hesitant. Just play.

Thanks buffnut, rep.

You were doing one of your Hawk impersonations right? He didn't actually say that.

It sounds like he is still searching and has fallen into the types of cliches that DII used. Do not tell me there are 8 plays that could have won the game. It was freaking Sac St and CSU. It should never be about a couple of plays. That kind of crap makes me want to puke. I want him to win but I am not hearing things that make me think he will figure it out.

Thanks for the recap and rep sent.

Thanks BuffNut.

As far as the D2-isms. Every coach says these things (hell, I heard Kubiak say almost all of these things over the past couple of years with the Texans, including the one about loving guys who "bring their lunch pail"). It's just that when you are losing a lot, the quotes build up on you.

You're right that coaches all do say the same stuff. It's just angering to see the same stuff again. You see the same stuff again because we're losing. I'm sure there were 8 plays that could've won us the game. We lost by one point, usually you can trace it back to a couple of moments that did or did not go your way. The problem is, we never make those things go our way and we're pretty tired of it as a fanbase.

He sounds like Hawkins because he's losing. There's nothing good a coach can say when they're losing.

At least he admitted it was 8 plays instead of 1 or 2.

And he said it in reference to two games that literally one play would have swung it the other way each time. That being said, we should never be in a game where the whole game hinges on 1 or 2 plays (or 8) with CSU or Sac St.

Hawkins on the other hand, said that crap after getting blown out of the stadium against Mizzou. It was completely unbelievable when he pulled that non-sense out.
