Offensive Rebounding in 12/13

We all know that Dre is a rebounding machine, (as Snow continually likes to say "Dre's Ball.") But as a team CU was a horrendous offensive rebounding team last year. Only getting offensive boards 29.2% of the time, 265th in the NCAA, ahead of only USC(338th) and Utah(342nd) in the Pac-12.

That leads us to 2012/2013 team, 5 freshman and 1 rebounding machine in Josh Scott. If Europe is any indication, help on the offensive glass is here. Scott had 35 rebounds over the five games, 27 came on the offensive glass. That is right 77% of Scott's rebounds were OFFENSIVE, against bigger, older and more experienced competition.

You couple Scott on the front line with Dre, a very physically developed XJ at the 3 and this could be a rebounding force on the front line. Dre has never had a gifted rebounder on the front line with him during his time at CU, as hard as Dufault worked and as good as he could be, he was an undersized player playing out of position. Now teams aren't going to be able to focus solely on Dre when trying to grab defensive rebounds, this may mean his rebounding numbers go down, but the team's could skyrocket.

Re: Offensive Rebouning in 12/13

Snow you are a genius when it comes to making catchy little phrases. I still love marchtadness

You've said it exactly right, jg. I think we may see Dre's numbers slip a *little* bit (how that affects his draft stock, who knows) but our overall rebounding numbers are going to go wayyyy up.

That's a solid point, say his rebounding numbers do decline, what happens to his draft stock?

Worst case scenario... Say his offensive game and handle don't show much improvement, couple that with a decline in boards. Is he even a first rounder let alone a lottery pick?

worst case scenario(for dre), best case scenario for CU.... he stays a 4th year!!!!

Yep. Very real possibility, IMO. Certainly going to be interesting to see how it plays out. Licking my chops over finally killing certain opponents on the boards after having it happen to us for so damn long.

Wofford had fantastic size a couple years ago, haven't scouted them yet for this season, but it could be a real entertaining battle in the post.

No NBA scout or GM is going to base someone's draft stock on stats to that degree. There's no question about whether Dre can rebound. His draft position is going to be determined by how he progresses in other aspects of his game.

The presence of some bigger guys is going to give Dre an opportunity to answer some questions for the NBA that he hasn't had so far.

We all know that Dre is dynamic on the boards. We have also seen him improve his offensive game inside. The problem for him is that he has been forced into playing the 4 but at his size that isn't going to be an option in the NBA. This year he is going to get a chance to show that he can defend against 3's and that he can contribute offensively from a little further away from the basket.

I certainly don't think that GM's look solely at stats, but don't you think that a GM could look at his rebounding numbers and think they were inflated the past 2 years because CU lacked anybody else that could rebound?

Dre's rebounding #s, btw, went UP in Europe iirc. With other teams having to box out more than just Dre, he will be free to go after rebounds in his usual freewheeling style.

I predict his rebound #s go UP this season. It is, after all, Dre's ball!

You could very well be right. Just looked it up, Dre had not only great rebounding games but offensive games as well.

AMW French Pro - 11 pts 20 boards
AMW French Pro Game 2 - 20 pts 9 boards
Optima Ghent - 15pts 14 boards
Gembo BBC Borgerhout - didn't play
Rotterdam Challengers - 18 pts 12 boards

Those are the two games I'm most interested in looking at. 'Dre was going against NBA PF Kevin Seraphin in those two, and put up man numbers.

in those two games averaging basically a 15 and 15 against an NBA player is ****in impressive.

Interesting, although let's remember that even the good European teams play a style of finesse ball very different from our own.

Sure they will think that. They'll also think about how every team we played knew going in that Dre was our only guy who could rebound, gameplanned to stop that, and couldn't.

Could go either way. I think the wider lanes probably help a player like Dre, too, because it gives him more space to operate.
