Is WBB about to explode as well?

This is crazy. We are turning into a BB power house. It looks like the ladies are about to take flight.

Lappe has quietly been recruiting real well. They have a good young nucleus. Getting faster, more athletic. Couple more good commits for next season. If Lappe finishes this class strong, the womens team will be right on the heels of the mens team. Very exciting!

WBB is poised to take the next step from NIT bubble program to NCAA bubble program.

That's the level the MBB team has been at the past 3 seasons, with it looking good for moving up to NCAA mainstay.

And, really, this conversation isn't complete unless we also include VB and make it a "court sports" discussion. Top 25 recruiting and looks to be turning the corner with a winning season this year.

I believe we've got 3 excellent coaches and they now have the advantages for recruiting and training of that brand new practice facility. Gonna be fun the next several years to watch this develop.

Investment in facilities -> improvement in recruiting -> success on the scoreboard. Coincidence?

With all CU has to offer, average facilities = top 25 level programs in every sport (and Top 5 where the advantages are compounded -- skiing & XC).

I want to believe that but the football program apparently hasn't gotten the memo.

As I noted this past week, all it took to vastly improve facilities for three sports was about $20 million over six years. Football will take $250 million. It's tough to make $250 million happen overnight.

VB has a big uphill climb, even with top 25 recruiting. With 5 highly ranked programs in the PAC-12 (USC, UCLA, Wash, Stan, Ore), just finishing 6 or 7th in conference play would be a major achievement. Finishing 8th would be a really good achievement this year. Might take a couple more years to get to 6th and possibly earn a tourney bid. I expect a 10th place finish in conference this year above WSU and Utah. I would be happy with 8th.

Not knowing where the credit is due here, but Linda is recruiting exactly to the blueprint of Tad Boyle. She is definitely keying on adding more athleticism & Length, which adds versatility and the ability to run. I tend to think Tad and Linda talk a bit.

Will that formula work in women's basketball? I don't see why it wouldn't, but I know nothing about it.

Pac-12 is a tough WBB conference with Stanford leading the way seemingly every year. It is an even tougher WVB conference. Based on the recruiting, Lappe seems to be getting it done, but I think the climb is going to be much harder in WBB given the competition. In contrast, MBB often changes drastically in conference from year to year, based on early entries. For example, UW and UofA would've been very good every year in the last decade if not for early entries.

I think we thought only Stanford was a tough basketball school and found out that wasn't true. It doesn't have the reputation in WBB that Big 12 does, but there are some excellent basketball teams in the conference besides Stanford--namely Cal and Cal has recruited very well this fall.

When Lappe came in, we need more speed and athleticism on the team. After see the post players in the Pac 12, I felt we also needed wide bodies in the post--no more Jackie McFarland's who was able to compete with the best of them with her basketball smarts and work ethic.

Lappe needs to get some top recruits, keep the players we have. I see us improving every year. I hope she schedules more difficult teams in the pre-season. Yes, Stanford is the goal, but Stanford is the goal of every school in the Pac 12.

From what I have seen watching volleyball games on the Pac 12 Network, this team is much improved over last years. However, there are 6 Pac 12 teams ranked in the top 10 in volleyball. We are not at that level yet even with the recruiting classes Kritzka has gotten.

We didn't make it to the Final Four when we had an All American on our team in 1995 and UConn did win the national championship that year.

Buffgal,

I just want to say thanks for being on the site. Your history and knowledge of the women's team is well appreciated.

Thank you. As I've stated before, I attended the very first game the Colorado Buffs ever played and I'm still a fan. Yes, that makes me not a kid any more. I was in grad school when I attended those early games.

The game is nothing like it was back then. Barely resembles the game played in 1995.

I wish the mens team had a shooter like Lexy. Also Jamee Swan does not look like a freshman at all. I'm curious to see how much C-Unit attendance will go up for women's games with the announcement that those games now count towards the vegas trip.

I'm pretty sure the women's games counted last year too. It's just that nobody knew how important getting those points would be. The relatively small group of students who came to WBB last season were probably all in LA

Only the last 2 womens games counted last year. The other games I went to they just let you walk in without scanning anything.
