"I'm not happy with our offense at all" (roughly paraphrasing something Embree said repeatedly after the game last night).

Anyways, he intimated there were some personnel issues that new guys would help with (WR, i'm sure), but there was definitely reference/suggestion that he was unhappy with the offensive staff.

Finally.
 
Hmmmm... Why should he be upset. We got a whole 17 points at home :wow:

The D sucks, but no way we win a PAC XII game putting up 17 points.
 
Our top RB would not be seeing the field at ASU. Like no playing time whatsoever.

It starts with simple stuff like that and goes really deep.

Which is 100% true...this board's finger pointing at the D and placing all blame on Greg Brown is so short sighted...while the D has it's issues it's not nearly as close to the issues on Offense

We play in a conference where everyone has a shaky Defense but Offenses that are tops in the nation....2 Weeks in a Row our Defense actually put our Offense in position to win some games and every time the Offense would go 3 & out, or turn the ball over, or go backwards

Our offense is the worst offense I have ever seen at most any College Level...PERIOD
 
I believe this is more directed at Marshall than EB, but at least Embo isn't trying to piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. Say what you will about Embree, but you have to respect that he gives us fans the respect of honest and straight-forward communication.

Strange, cause I thought this was the OL's best game. Did they have **** ups? Yes. but often they were call related (blitzing more than we can block). Furthermore, at least in the 1st half, there was a pocket for Webb to step up into. Wonder of wonders, he really did do that on the two scoring drives. Finally, the running game was damn effective when it was actually used. Only one play (until the 4th down stop after the game was over) went for negative yardage and the guys were really finding holes.

Oh well. I think this was one of EB's worst games and I'm gonna hope it was directed at him.
 
After watching the game from upstairs last night I am certain that this team goes nowhere without new coordinators. I am truly excited about some of the talent we have in some young defensive players. Now if only we could get some depth. Bad schemes and being on the field all night is a brutal hill to climb for those guys
 
Bohn needs a little egg in his face and rehire Barnett as our point man. Move the current coaches around, and we have a decent staff again (can't imagine things have become this much worse after Hawk). Too bad, any CU Fan that isn't a big donor is Bohn's B!t**.

Hope you're right.

I have a major problem with EB as an Offensive Coordinator. As I've said before, his philosophy is all about imposing your will on a defense. That doesn't work when your offense doesn't have much better players than the defense. If he was at USC or Alabama, I think he'd be an alright OC. With what he has right now (youth, lack of depth, lack of playmakers), the CU OC job is very much about a rhythm to playcalling that keeps defenses off balance, a selection of trick plays to trot out every week, and gaining advantages through scheme. Frankly, it's the approach developed by Dirk Koetter and Chris Petersen at Boise State that we had hoped to get when we brought Hawkins in but didn't.

yup. they had us scouted cold on that one. at least we should have it fixed next week!
 
This is what you get when you hire obscure position coaches to be your head coach and OC at a major program in a major conference. On top of that, they let Hawlk lame duck and death spiral the program, making it that much worse for the new and unqualified coaches.

Half-measures typically never end up workign out very well.

no there is clearly more talent on the d and greg brown isnt getting anything out of it... his schemes are attrocious

Why do you want Barnett rehired, what has he done lately in College football?

Except for that one time in high school I promised to only put the head in, I agree with you.

This IS the problem though. His scheme is suited for the NFL or for a team that can exploit individual mismatches.

He has no answer for trying to run an offense with the hand he's been dealt... So we just keep running the same failed plays with the same failing players over and over again. Which is PART of the reason our defense has struggled so badly - the offense gives them zero help in terms of ball control or field position.
 
The offensive coordinator should have enough experience to recognize what the Defense offers, or allows. There were times when we had consecutively positive run-plays, which begs for a GOOD play-action pass to take advantage of the DBs' tendency to rock forward on Play #3. Instead, we have an out-and-out pass play. DBs are afforded the chance to back-pedal and bat down balls.

Predictability of play-calling remains a bugaboo, and led to so many 3-and-out's.

There doesn't seem to be any recognition of the skill-levels that have been (cough cough) developed by this coaching staff.
 
For a team that is committed to the run, we seem to quit on it rather easily and early in most games. It's like the coaches are gun shy and abandone the run as soon as our opponents score - "5 mins left in the first but we're down by three, time to start slinging it around." run the damn ball coach!!!

I think the opposite is true. Defense can keep you in the game when your offense isn't producing. But we can't cover or stop the run (may as well throw in KO returns). Teams with any talent and coaching will continue to eat us alive, even if we had an average offense.
 
Blah blah blah. I'm tired of talking about this **** for the last ten years in a row. Wake me up when we win 6+ games.

We are probably arguing in circles because we're so bad in all facets, but at least in the context of the ASU game, one first down by the offense in the third quarter killed us.

Obviously points are the most important thing for an offense, but our inability to avoid three-and-outs the last couple seasons has put our defense in really bad spots. Put a bad defense in bad spots and things spiral out of control quickly.
 
Two words that have failed this staff for two seasons: Halftime Adjustments.

The coaching staff must hand out oranges at halftime, they certainly aren't coaching in there.

This makes me think of an old John McKay quote..."Well, we didn't block real good but we made up for it by not tackling."

McKay was the best at being the worst! LOL


edit; And another that could apply to this CU team..."Well, we've determined that we can't win at home and we can't win on the road. What we need is a neutral site."

So did the 2nd half KO, so did all of the easy drives. It's true that the O doesn't do the D any favors with 3 and outs, but our D creates it's own problems on 3rd downs anyway, when they manage to force a 3rd down. As you say, we just don't have much to be proud of on this team - I was really just pointing out that singling out the offense is a bit silly on this team. It will be very interesting to see out JE assesses his own performance along with his staff's.
