Nike Sparq Camp Interview

The near 4.0 student has been looked at seriously by Cal and by Stanford. And as he has progressed this season he has added size and speed as well as added to his already impressive Video vault. At 6'3"-215 and 215 Pound Ragin is blowing up opposing offense from his OLB / DE Spot and he is a punishing blocker to boot.
"Colorado has some amazing degree programs. And I am going to give them a really hard look," said Ragin. "This is a school in a terrific place to live and study and they are Pac 12 South too. That could be great."

"Coach Embree called and offered me a scholarship," Ragin said. "That is a great school and have always been a strong program. They are struggling lately, but have a strong tradition. Going to a school like that and helping get them back on track would be a great thing.

Laser timed at a 4.7 at the SPARQ camp, so he's not a blazer, but that's still decent speed at the LB position. Remember, everyone lies about their reported 40 times . I think he also has the #24 SPARQ rating in the nation, btw.

Amazed that Louisiana Lafayette hasn't offered.

When did we offer him? Looks like he has the right mindset to be a Buff commit.

'13 OR OLB Johnny Ragin III

Coaches no we need lbs.

There is also the possibility that he has never really trained his speed that much. When he does full strength training in college he could become a 4.5 or 4.6 type of guy and end up being a pretty fast linebacker.

Get several LBs running in the 4.7 range and we will be just fine.

Watch his HUDL film. I'm very impressed! He shows good burst, instincts, strength and finish. He will be a 1st team PAC 12 player for someone. He's easily now my favorite target. GET HIM!!!!

Nice looking prospect, 4.7 is fine for a lb. I more interested in how he sees plays and gets to the ball.

I'll always take a laser-timed event 4.7 over a self-reported 4.5 forty. He's plenty fast and the SPARQ score tells me that he's got elite athleticism (FB is more of a short-area sport than a long speed sport).

I'm excited about this prospect.

RT @Stephen__Nelson: Adds to #GoBeavs, #BYU & #Colorado offers. RT @BrandonHuffman Wyoming has offered Wilsonville (Ore.) LB Johnny Ragin

Kid is definitely getting a lot of attention recently. And ya, just to be clear, I'm very happy with a 4.7 laser 40. That's legit LB speed. Just not elite. His SPARQ score, however, leads me to think he's got pretty damn elite athleticism when you combine his strength/speed/change of direction.

Wilsonville is part of the Portland metro area but on the outskirts (maybe like Highlands Ranch or Parker). They play 5A which is one step down from the big boys around Portland. Wilsonville is currently ranked 5th in that class.

I say bring him in on name alone.

Yeah, I was more trying to add to your post, not contradict it. I am fairly certain we have started some LBs over the last 5-6 years who would not break 5.0 in the 40, so 4.7 LBs would be a huge upgrade.

Or this year...

I see some freaky similarities in his highlight film and that of Von Miller's. I'm not calling him the next Von Miller, but if he can come anywhere close, we win huge!

I'm not sure if Ragin's HUDL film is of his Junior year or not, but if so that is even more impressive. Can't be more excited about this kid!!

He is visiting for the Washington game next weekend.

Also will be visiting Cal and Oregon State. Teams like Michigan State may enter the picture too.

At first I wasn't interested but I think CU needs all the athletes they can get on defense. I am now thinking he is one of our higher priorities to recruit.

Hoping against hope for some good football news to come out of this weekend. Hope the visit went well.
