How hot of a seat in Embree on?

Are we talking a year 4 Hawk level equivalent? It certainly feels about like that to me. There's a handful of supporters at this point, but there's an overwhelming majority of posters on the various sites that want Embree gone.

Maybe I'm rewriting history here, but I don't recall much, if any, backlash wanting him fired after year 2. Year 3 there were concerns, but again I think most chalked it up to injuries and such. Year 4 things started to get really hot after the epic failure of the first 2 weeks and then by the end of the year I think even the most ardent supporters were demanding Hawk be fired.

It's also worth mentioning that there weren't any people looking for Embree to be fired before the year started. There were a few that questioned the overall intelligence of the hire, but even that group wasn't talking about firing the staff because I don't think anyone saw this level of ******ness coming.

Year 2 Hawk got us the OU win, and a bowl game. Optimism was high, but just a bit too high for Bohn though, who thought he had the next hot bcs coach on his hands.

Year 2 was a solid improvement over year one with Hawkins. That created a lot of good will for a while because it indicated progress. Hawkins also had an established track record as a head coach. Embree has not shown any progress at all, nor has any historical performance to lean on.

I think a big factor this time around is apathy. How many of you are so pissed off that you're writing letters and/or emails to Benson/Bohn/the regents/...? How many of you are publicly protesting by wearing powder blue? Or, how many of you have just tuned out? The level of anger on this board is nowhere near where it was during the downward spiral of Hawkins' last years.

I really believe a lot of passion has been beaten out of the fans from all the blowout losses, total lack of competitiveness, and an administration that doesn't publicly appear to care.

I think you are right. I love the Buffs, but don't have the energy to make a fuss.

I emailed my regent and they never got back to me. I will not be voting for them in the next election.

+ 1 and DITTO...just beat down at this point. Like a Zombie just following the masses

With Dr. Phil and BB, his seat isn't even warm...they don't care. Those two would only care if Embo did something to embarass them, and fielding a team that gets it fanny beat like a tom-tom, apparently, does not embarass them.

With the fans, I suspect he will have lost them by the next home game. The casual fan has already been waxing their skis and reviewing the Nuggets roster, the students are now showing up in half force. Next the hardcore will begin to thin as year number seven of Bohn ball* takes hold. Who will be left standing? Well, I mean sitting? The blue hairs in the west stands who have been attending games for the last forty years...because it is just what they do on fall Saturdays.

It may take years and another magical Mac type personality to resurrect what BB, Dr. Phil, Bitsy and her lap dog Byyny, Mike "Yes Sir" Bohn and DII Danny pretty much destroyed. I won't lump Embo or EB into the list of usual suspects because I truly do believe those guys want to succeed in the worst possible way (and I want them to succeed too), but they simply aren't up to the task. The others had agendas ranging from placating the radical fringe to making sure their son got to play QB which were more important than doing what was right with respect to the institutional responsibilities with which they were charged.

So with the fans Embo is already on a scorching seat, but that will most likely be demonstrated by the fans standing up and showing Embo their seat as they walk out of the stadium...and who knows how long it will be before they come back.

*Bohn ball= losing football

How much of Bohn being a yes man is attributed to the fact he had to take loans from the school's general fund for the AD? There is a chance he was just playing politics in the past and now that we are much better off financially he can actually run his dept with out the dip**** duo telling him what to do.

I don't know. So far it is clear that MB was hired to balance the AD budget, first and foremost. It appears he has done that. From where I sit, it looks like that was done at the expense of the competitiveness of your main asset, football. If you end up killing your main revenue producer in pursuit of a short term balancing of the books, how wise is that?

The fans (or at least ours) will give any second year coach a pass if he approaches expectations (or better) or demonstrates progress.

What we've seen this year is so far below expectations, and represents such a significant step backwards, I'm unclear how anyone could justify continued employment.

The injuries, youth, new system excuses don't excuse the product.

I know it's difficult (if not impossible) to do, but if you take the football program out of the equation for a second, the athletic department is in pretty decent shape. I would give Bohn one more chance to hire the right football coach. If he can't pull that one off, then he probably needs to go. Three strikes and all that. I just don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I think Bohn is a solid athletic director who had dramatically improved the overall health of the athletic department since he got here. His biggest problem is that his most visible sport is as bad as it has ever been, and seemingly getting worse by the day.

I respectfully disagree, I don't know of any other AD who has gotten to hire three HC's in FB. Maybe it has happened, but hard to think it happened on the heels of seven straight losing seasons. I do not want MB anywhere near the next hiring process.

This is a real big problem. He may be good at all the other stuff, but he is floundering at the most important. Someone commented a while back that he possibly lacked vision. If this is truly the case, then we may be in real trouble.

Apathy and not showing up to games speaks volumes in lost revenue....if we ALL showed up in powder blues, they are still pulling in revenue. Protest with your money.

Embree is not on the hot seat. He'll get year three. When he wins 3-5 games next year, they'll talk about how there was improvement shown and use it to justify 2014.

I have no idea if there has ever been an athletic director who has been allowed to hire three head football coaches. They typically don't stick around for very long. Keep in mind who will be responsible for hiring Bohn's replacement if we do fire him. Frankly, that scares me a lot more than the prospect of him hiring the next football coach.

I agree with you up to the point where he
1. either allowed himself to be co-opted by political forces during the last hire or
2. he is actually inept at hiring football coaches all together.

Either way he doesn't have much of a leg to stand on except when you examine the other sports; most all of them are largely ignored by fans and faculty and donors and almost all of his coaching hires, particularly Tad, have been a success. Most of those sports are not nearly as political as football is. The million dollar question is does he have a level playing field in hiring football coaches? The answer is almost certainly no.

Let's look back at the last hire for a second. What were his choices? It was either Embree or EB, right? Anybody care to speculate how we'd be doing with EB as HC right now? I suppose you could have thrown Mac into the mix, but was that a realistic option? At the time of the hire, Bohn did not know what the financial windfall from the Pac 12 would be. He knew he had to pay off Hawkins and that his budget for hiring a new coach was probably pretty limited.

Let's see what he can do when he has a substantial coaches salary budget to work with. I suspect that if he's able to pay a guy $2.5MM, he'll hire a pretty decent coach.

Sorry, not buying it. Bohn's one saving grace is balancing the budget. Keeping Embree around will destroy the bottom line thanks to massive revenue losses in tickets/concessions/clothing that will number in the millions of dollars. All Benson/Distefano care about is money, and even they don't want to have the AD hemorrhaging millions by not making a change with a coach with a pitifully small buyout. They publicly said the reason that Hawkins was retained was because of his substantial buyout. That is not the case this time.

What happens when next year finishes with a repeat of 1-11 or 2-10, which seems a lot more likely?

His ass is grass. Bohn will recognize that Embree should have been fired the previous November once he sees the revenue lost from retaining him.

W/L performance and attendance will have zero impact on whether Embo is kept for year 3 or not. BB, and company have made that pretty clear.

The only way Embo gets the axe this year is if the team quits, a bunch of players ask for transfers and a bunch of commits de-commit. If this happens BB, Distupid and Bohn will have no choice but to make a change. The finger pointing going on now between the players is a sign that disharmony is growing in the team and an exodus may be in the making. Something is broke and the players know it.

we should be 0-7, will finish 1-11. Don't see how we win any games next year with JE back and Webb as the worst starter in all of College Football.

JE is a good person, but BAD head coach. Let them go.

Maybe JE will join twitter again and crack a QB starter riddle :D

I think if attendance significantly dropped off for the final home games, it could motivate the AD / President to act.

I am talking absolutely catastrophically low - 35,000 fans or less.

but look at the Flatirons! and the city of Boulder! it's not the wins but the atmosphere that counts!

I think it would have to go lower than that to send a loud enough message that they sit up and take notice. They have already doubled down on staying with Embo so the situation would have to be absolutely embarrassing to make them reverse course. I think the attendance would have to drop to CSU levels (15K) before they would act. They don't need the attendance money, they have all the P12 money, but a major exodus of fans may have an effect.

Year 4. Now let's not make the same mistake and keep respective incompetent coach/staff around for an extra year to drastically deepen our issues.

(Sidenote: At least in 2009 we won three games, including 2 in the BigXII over a then-top 20 KU squad and Texas A&M, we were also competitive in others, such as @ Oklahoma State, @ Iowa State)

A bad, terrible hire done with good intentions. Remember Mac was a big supporter of Embree, but obviously he and EB - the entire coaching staff are in way over their heads. I don't see it getting any better next year.
